thanks for the hints on where to find the pics. They are beautiful, and everyone looks so happy and well dressed. well done, chrissy, well done!!!!
-
Thanks for all the hints. I found them! Oh Chrissy, your family is wonderful. Loved the pics and loved those showing the sun catchers decorating the wedding venue. As much as I enjoyed the pictures I was a little sad thinking about all that good food I missed by not heading to Burra last weekend. LOL.

I just love the pix.. -
hi sas! miss ya. -
Oh my goodness! What a quiet thread!........not for long!.....I'm back to stir things up........lol.
I have been so off these last couple of weeks, firstly with all the final preps for the wedding and then with this awful cold/flu/chest infection that just grabbed me a day after the wedding. I guess it was my body saying that I had neglected it for too long and it was paying me back........such is life but it didn't have to grab me so hard! I'm on anti B's so hopefully it will pack its bags and leave me sooner rather than later.
DD has been FBing some photos of their time in Borneo (that's where they have gone for the honeymoon) and it really looks like a fabulous place. I loved the little video that she sent of the baby Orangs learning to be big Orangs at the Orang Sanctuary near where they are staying. They sure are fantastic creatures...........and not that far removed gene wise from humans. Apparently we share about 96% of the same DNA........fascinating.
I'll share a couple of pics with you.The happy couple.
A Chinese Temple
A local fishing villiage
The beach near their Resort at sunset.
Hope you enjoyed!

Oh how blissfully happy they look, Chrissy! In all my life I'd never thought of Borneo as a honeymoon location, or even thought of Borneo at all, but the pictures are beautiful. So glad everything's behind you now but sorry you've been sick. Hope the antibiotics do their trick and things get better quickly.
DH is beside himself because the govt shutdown has imposed on his Annual Outer Banks Fishing Trip. He and 6 other men have gone every year for the past 9 or so years, and they plan all year for just this trip. The place where they stay and fish is a designated national seashore and is now closed for the duration. They've come up with an alternative plan, staying in a motel right on the beach, but "it just won't be the same", he says. I'm secretly glad because he'll be gone only 5 days and not 8, but I'm keeping my own counsel on this.
And hey to you, Sas. Good to see you!
Kathy -
Kathy when DD was younger she traveled extensively so had been to Europe, Canada, USA, South America, Japan and said she wanted to go somewhere she had never been so she saw her travel agent and told her to come up with a few places........Borneo was one of them. She says it was the best choice now she is there as she really knew nothing about it and has been surprised at how lovely the resort is, how friendly the staff and populous is and how beautiful the country is. All I can say is I would love to check it out for myself........lol.......she has word painted such a lovely picture of it.
What a shame you DH's fishing trip has been affected by the government shut down but I'm sure he will still get some fishing in even if he doesn't have to 'rough' it.
Kathy, I have heard many of the women referring to the Government shut down and I was wondering what it's all about? Would you mind giving me a precise so I can understand?
Love n hugs. Chrissy -
Chrissy, The government shut down? The full extent no one knows
The full meaning no one knows:(. Except all the fun places like Kathy's Dh's fishing places were the first to be closed. We have an oddity about our Government. The government is excluded from being subject to the laws of the USA. It would take a Constitutional amendment. But the congress and president are responsible for the budget. The budget defines funding for government run "properties, programs, employees. Bottom line no mention that the congress-House or Senate, or the President missing paychecks, healthcare, pensions. Now if that were to happen, something might get done.
Hi Kathy and Mac:) -
Thanks Sas.........Yeah, I thought as much........sounds typical for government, they don't seem to cut the spending on their trips, accommodation, dinners, wages, healthcare, etc, etc, etc. but always blame and cut things for the general populace.........seems to be the same the world over.
The only time we've had a government shut down was way back when Kerr the then Governor General (Queens representative) sacked the Government and told the people to elect a new one........it was all over budget stuff too. -
Chrissy, correct me if I'm wrong. The Governor General is appointed by the Queen? You don't have a elected Prime Minister? I know the PM can call for an election by declaring a " Lack of Confidence" in the government. Is this right? Here we have to wait out the 4 years, no matter what. Even if their impeached. Never understood that one either. Clinton was impeached, but he didn't miss a day of work. So, what was the point of impeachment.
-
Yes, you are right......the Governor General is appointed by the Queen and the PM is the leader of the elected party they are not elected as an individual. The No Confidence Vote is taken by the House of Representatives and is backed by the Senate. The only one who has the authority to call an election outside the four years is the Governor General but has happened only once. Usually the PM calls the election if there i a vote of No Confidence or the term of four years is coming to an end. -
Hi Sas to answer you. Yes, we both have an elected Prime Minister well they are the leader of the major party in parliament, we don't actually vote for PM, they are technically just another MP. The Governor General is virtual Head of State in place of the Queen, she takes over the role when in the country. The GG calls for an election when the parliamentary term is up and can in a crisis as happened in Aus, dissolve parliament. If the governing party cannot get a budget bill that is a vote of no confidence and an election will be called.
I don't think we have had a government shutdown but there have been times when the government have decided they needed to ' go to the people' over an issue and ask for an early election to be called. And the government have actually lost. -
Alyson, actually if the government called for a vote by the people b/c they had unresolvable issues. All win. The government conceded they couldn't do the job. Asked the people to vote. The people vote. If that caused a change in government, then the government was right to call the vote. Otherwise, the people would have voted the govt. back in. Which would have said "We support what you were doing , so get on with it" (paragraph). Here we muddle along, with a collapsed system. Partisan politics interfering. Nothing resolved. (Paragraph). Apparently, we have shut the government down 18 or 19 times since the late 60's or early 70's. But we still float along. (paragraph) I like your way better. If the government is at a stalemate, if done your way the message is loud and clear when a new government is elected by the people. The message being "WE don't approve of what you're doing so change it". (paragraph) I wonder why our founding fathers didn't think that reasonable?
-
Sas I think it was all to do with the fact that they wanted absolutely nothing to do with England and how England was run because they didn't agree with it. They figured a 'better' way.........and maybe it was......200 years ago.....but times change, countries change, populations change, but it seems the Government is still 200 years old and hasn't changed at all.
Just my opinion from an outsider looking in. -
Back to sleep:) Nice seeing you all. sassy
-
Night Sas.....sleep well! Nice chatting to you again.
Love n hugs. Chrissy -
Chrissy,
So glad to see you back on here but sorry to hear what kept you away. I hope the antibiotics zap the old bugger away.
Also, sorry to hear about Kathy's husband's fishing trip with his buddies. I don't think he will get much fishing done, however, as I am sure Mr. Obama feels he owns the ocean so that is probably closed to the public as well.
What a mess!
Marianne -
Alyson:
I am still hoping to get a call from Pottsvile asking to join me for coffee. My daughters keep asking if you have called me yet but I guess it is not going to happen. I sure would have loved to autograph the traveling pants.
Marianne -
Marianne
I did try to call but was having phone and internet problems, just couldn't connect most of the time.. Also it was difficult while there because my cousins and aunt had 'organised' so much and there was only one afternoon when we managed to run away and had a little time to ourselves. Don't worry the BGPs will be back.
Am very slow today. Joints playing up bably.
Big hugs to all. -
Well Chrissy, it looks like you've already been well filled in on the situation here. It appears to me that there has to be negotiation and compromise soon or the country will be in far worse fiscal shape than we are already. I was raised that you don't spend what you don't have because sooner or later the piper must be paid, but that apparently no longer applies.
Alyson, sorry your joints are troubling you. Hope you feel better soon!
Hugs to all,
Kathy -
Kathy, the same here.......if you don't got it you don't spend it! I wonder why Governments don't learn that mantra? The older I get the more I dislike politicians as it just seems like they are there for their own aggrandizement and to line their pocket to the detriment of the citizens and the country and that's not just in the USA but the world over. I know I shouldn't lump them all together as there are some who try to work for the people only to get shot down by those who are there for self interest.
Well I could go on and on about that subject but I want to play nice so I'll close it down.
Aly you poor girl! Your arthritis gives you hell I know and I know what a real pain it is. Here's hoping it settles quickly this time and doesn't linger.
Marianne I think the anti B' are doing something as a lot of the colour has gone (TMI) but I'm still coughing and my ears are now blocked so my balance is shot to hell. I need to be very careful moving around at the moment but hopefully that will have cleared somewhat by Monday as I have to drive down to the city to see my doc. I'm okay if I just sit.......but we can't sit for ever, there are times when we really do have to move........lol.
Have a great day all!
Love n hugs. Chrissy -
chrissy, glad you are feeling a bit better, hope the forward momentum continues. You deserve a bit more rest after all those preparations, but sorry that being sick is the way you are being forced to slow down.
I am so mystified how a federal government does not have a balanced budget and gets away with it for years. what kind of good business practice is that?
My DD arrives again tomorrow. we will tackle the big clean up and reorganization of the shop together. Then my DS is coming for the holiday weekend. Poor guy will probably get sucked into helping us move the big stuff around. Has no idea what he is in for. lol
Here it is Columbus Day weekend. In Canada it is Thanksgiving. Anyone else celebrating something else? -
Chrissy hope you feel better. Found out and odd thing in last few days. I've been swimming since June. Ears recently started to hurt, connected it to colder water. Someone suggested plugs. Major help. Plus affected tinnitus. WHY? Don't know. Huge.
-
bumping for Granny! -
Chrissy, I hope you're feeling better.
My nailbeds were messed up when I had Taxol (4 1/2 years ago and they never healed). They looked awful and in many places my nails weren't connected to the nail beds. I always polished them with fairly dark polish to cover this up since the nails themselves were growing normally. So now the Afinitor made the nails very brittle and they all started to break. Since they weren't connected to the beds they were breaking very low and looked awful. I can handle having short nails but this was beyond the beyond! So I splurged and got acrylic nails done. I've never had them before - they really do look terrific!
So I got dressed up the other day and said to my DH, "I'm all dressed up. Fake hair, fake nails, fake boobs....."
Leah -
Love it Leah
Hope everyone had a good weekend.
Big hugs -
Love it Leah!! I've had acrylic put over my nails for strength for a couple of years now......its the only way they stay long! May be you should have suggested to DH that he take you out for dinner seeing as how you were all done up.
Feeling better a bit today, at least the car trip hasn't been as tortuous as I thought it would be.........lol. the doc told me that the vettigo was more than likely caused by the cold/flu/lurgy that I've had this past fortnight. Good thing is at least a little of my hearing is beginning to return!........yay!!!!!!!
Stay well all!!!!!
Love n hugs.. Chrissy
