NLMMichigan, You ae not alone. This is a great group of women on this forum and we are here for each other BIG TIME!
What is happening with you at this juncture? What is your diagnosis? Where are you in treatment?
Hold onto your sense of self. Get good information. Digest it well, with help if possible, before you make decisions, and own your treatment and recovery.
So sorry you had to get here this way, but this is a great place and you will find a lot of support amongst the ladies of these forums.
Hugs!

gosh my first response. Yeah.. I was diagnosed April 9th the call came in. I spent many hours on the phone talkiing to other woman that had bc. My diagnosis is stage 1, no lymph nodes. I am with the staff at RO Beaumont and Dr Margolis who is pretty respected as an oncologist. I decided after talking to many woman to take them both off. So glad I did as they found very early cancer cells right side and ofcourse a 1.5CM tumor left. I have my fourth chemo Monday August 19th. I know it is necessary as I am ER positive HER2+++ but it makes me very sick not only physically but emotionally it really kicks my butt. I have not been working since May 1st and my employer said come back full time so that will be around Oct 7th after my chemo is over. I know going to work and making sales call during chemo weeks is not possible. Then I have Herceptin for 6 more months and another 5 years of a pill. My implant surgery is scheduled for Dec. I have found this to be a very lonely journey. Many friends and family initially sent cards some not at all and I keep trying to find another woman in my area that might be going thru the same thing to support each other.. Its funny i have gotten more support from strangers especially ones that have gone thru it than my owm immediate sister, and family. One of my best friends has not called or come over but she has sent 3 cards. I guess folks have a hard time "handling it" or don't know what to say. I promise for the next person i know and care about they will have me in their face. Support is so important. would like to get a group of woman together to talk and share and heal together any time..

Do you have an available support group through yor cancer support network? If you do, join in, they can be so helpful!
Also there are a few threads here to help with those whose loved ones cannot handle it:
http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/102/topic/765804?page=13#idx_372
which can be crushing, but is part of the way outsiders may end up dealing with it.
What is important is that YOU get the help you need, from whatever source they come from.
Kindest Wishes To You.
It will get bettter. It will get better. It will get better.

I have a friend who goes to a wonderful support group at Beaumont...not sure if it is Troy or Royal Oak, but she finds it so very helpful. She even goes twice a week to Troy to an exercise class. Could you ask your dr about support groups? I know I never heard of all that she goes to and my dr is at Troy Beaumont.

Hello, I live in Livingston County, Michigan. I am scheduled to have surgery in Nipple Sparing Mastectomy and DIEP reconstruction in Charleston with Dr. Craigie. However, I am still trying to find a good team in Michigan so I do not have to travel. I did find a Plastic Surgeon here in Michigan (Dr. Studinger) who trained with Dr. Allen. The trouble is that she only performs these surgeries out of Providence Hospital and I can not find a breast surgeon who I feel is proficient in the Nipple Sparing Mastectomy. If anyone from Michigan has had a successful nipple sparing mastectomy anywhere in Michigan, I would LOVE to hear from you. Thank you for sharing your stories ladies. :-) -
Ladies...so sorry to be out of it. I have found that many of us "old timers" have moved to other social media networking. Not fair to you at all as we can all learn from another. I am wondering if it might benefit if we have a private Facebook page? What I have found is that many of us when done with active treatment, want to move along and do not come back here. However, we all share the same and we never forget.
For me, I am a two time survivor and I am only 51 years old. Trust me in that I can say it has not been an easy road by any means. What do you think?
Hugs. -
Not-Me - great idea, thank you for suggesting it! I belong to a private FB group with the Jan 2013 chemo women. It's been a godsend to have the continued support, and I would love to have more support from local friends, too. Just my two cents!

Hi friends. Hadn't been on the thread in a long time and was thinking about everyone. I hope you are all doing well. Took the big step several weeks go, signed up for the 3-day walk. Figured my health wasn't going to get any better so better do it now. After all, I did the 5-mile walk downtown, how hard could it be to do 20 miles......3 days in a row??? I think I'm crazy but haven't dropped out yet, lol. Will start training next week, as I just had the back injections. Wondered if anyone else is walking? I had planned to walk with my son but he just let me know he won't be able to. It would be so nice to walk with a group or someone. We could encourage each other when we want to quit. Hopefully, there are still some on the thread from our little group. Blessings to all and would love to hear from you. I would like to do the walk downtown also. Take care all.
