I started Taxol last Wednesday and Saturday noticed a rash on my neck. Today it seems to be spreading. I will let the Dr. look at it tomorrow when I go for the next chemo but I am concerned that it is from the power port and not the chemo, although I guess either one will be equally awfull. I am allergic to all plastic tape, streri strips and even the covaderm that they placed over the port after my first infusion.

    Hi Warrior,

Definitely something you should talk to your doctor about, but in the meantime, you may be interested in checking out the main Breastcancer.org site's page on Rash as a side effect of breast cancer treatments for some tips on how to help manage this side effect!

    Hope this helps!

I had a rash after my first TC treatment, so probably similar effect from taxotere as taxol. I tried an allergy cream (generic for Benadryl) and that stopped the itch, but the rash still spread overnight. Next day (Monday), I called my onc's office and they said it was okay for me to use a hydrocortisone cream (prescription) that I had at home from my PCP, which they said was just a slightly stronger cream that what is available over the counter. That cream stopped the itching too and made the rash go away before my appointment on Wednesday when my onc was going to have a look. Fortunately, I haven't had the rash again following my next 3 cycles so hopefully this will be a one time thing for you too.

Did they give you any steroids to take before the treatment? Most will use steroids in the IV drip, but the protocol at my oncology office is to give steroids the night before as a prevention to the skin issues. I have super sensitive skin and that helped me not to have any problems. If you want to know the specifics, send me a private message.

My onc gave me steroids for the day before, day of and day after chemo and I still got a rash - but days after I had stopped them.

I got a rash on my face and neck with A/C and now with tykerb. Both related to treatment even with pretreatment. I haven't used any creams but do wash with Aveeno body wash or soap. It helps alleviate most of the itching. It seems to peak at the beginning of treatment and then sort of fade out.

    Be well

Thanks everyone for the replys. It seems to be better today. They did give me a steroid treatment right before the taxol. Its not that bad to even be annoying, just more of a concern because I didn't want it to derail this treatment. Hearing that others have it through treatment is reassuring.
