Chemo? waiting to hear
like we don't have to wait long enough after first finding a big lump, having a positive mammo, waiting for a biopsy and then the results. then getting first opinion and seeking a second opinion, then waiting for surgery.then comes the wait for the pathology report and finding the necessity for a second surgery do too unclear margins. Next comes waiting for the pathology from the second report. Now comes the wait to find out about chemo or not!
this all began over the weekend before July 1, 2013.Praise God after the second surgery and the sentinel node biopsies it appears we got all the cancer. It appears the cancer was contained to my breast and but due to the agressiveness was 2.7 centimeters.Thankfully the sentinel nodes were clear!
due to being ER and PR positive we know I will need hormone depressing treatment.now the wait to find out if I need to chemo.
the wait is agonizing. ...add a huge, hard seroma and swelling Plus difficulties with the surgeons nursing staff this is been a very rough few months.it has been such a roller coaster ride I don't know whether I am head up or down at this point!
thankfully I have my faith to hold me up! But still, it can be a very, very lonely journey.it is wonderful to have a community to reach out to! Thank you!

Hi tre23, I definitely know what you mean. The waiting is the hardest. I was diagnosed 12/4/12. After 2 surgical opinions, the holidays (when everything pretty much shut down), an MRI, which showed another suspicious mass that had to be biposied, genetic counseling (which my insurance denied initially)....I finally had my lumpectomy on 2/18/13. Then the most bizarre thing happened...the lab didn't send enough carcinoma to genomics, so they had to send more tissue. I only had a 4mm tumor but still.... So bottom line was I didn't get my oncotype results until 4/4. Then I started chemo on 4/9, last chemo 7/23. Started rads late August and will be done October 22. It will be almost 11 months. My nurse navigator told me to figure about a year and she was right!
Good luck with your oncotype test results. If you don't need chemo, that will take at least 3 months off your treatment, but if you do chemo, you can do it!
Hugs,
Sandra
