MRIs
I'm wondering if any of you are getting MRI follow ups (or any other type of scan for that matter). I have two co-workers who are getting MRIs--one who had a lumpectomy and the other mastectomy with recon. I had BMX with no recon. So I called my surgeon's office today to ask if I had recon, would she be ordering an MRI for me. No answer yet. This surgeon is constantly pushing recon to me. Also at the time of decision making, I was told that I would not qualify for an MRI on my prophylactic side even though I had had such a serious case of ILC that did not show up on a mammo.
So are any of you getting routine followup MRIs? Do you know if the women who had recon are getting them? This possibility really p's me off. I still have a chest wall and some lymph nodes left that I sure as heck would like to get scanned. Hopefully no breast tissue was left.
Or maybe I'm making something out of nothing.

Well, here's the answer. As I am now, flat, no MRIs. If I had reconstruction, then perhaps I would get an MRI. I asked why. The young woman really couldn't explain it. I'm boiling. Apparently, if I had my fat moved up there, I could get an MRI but if I don't, I won't. Makes no sense to me. Oh, well, I've already made an appointment to go to Arlington Cancer Center where I'm going to get scanned.

This is a valid question and has been posted before...with no answers. I am in the same position as you, the mammo did not find the cancer, the MRI did...but yet I can't have a MRI and I am supposed to look for lumps. Well, I never had lumps!
I worry we are slipping through the cracks. Will you pay for this MRI yourself and who ordered it? -
Sorry to be confusing. I'm not getting an MRI, whether I pay for it or not. My surgeon said no. I am going to the Arlington Cancer Center for a 2nd opinion on my treatment and am expecting to get various scans there paid by insurance. Maybe the MRI is not the right scan. I don't know. I just know that they are going to do something.
It just doesn't make sense to me that the MRI showed all of the lymph node activity in addition to what was in the breast, and that I can't have it to double check on the lymph nodes that were left there.
I feel the same as you--we could be falling through the cracks. -
My BS is also pushing for reconstruction . I know it is just for the money. When I went the last time at the 6 mth check up , his first question was do I have insurance ? Then proceeded to say he could do reconstruction! I am fine without reconstruction so he should not be making that comment. He should,be accepting my decision.
