Dose Dense Taxol September 2013

Options

I finished my dose dense Adriamycin & Cytoxin Aug 29 and will have my first dose dense Taxol Sept. 12. Was told by my oncology nurse practitioner that Taxol seems easier for most women. However, if you cruise the discussion threads there can be more issues with pain and certain neuropathy. Have been taking L-Glutamine and am going to step up dose to 30 mg spread into 2 - 3 servings. 1-tablespoon heaping is 15 mg.

Anyone else starting in September? We are halfway through.

Sheila

Hi Sheila,I too finiished ddac in august and had my first Taxol Wedn amd i'm still in alot of joint and muscle pain. I don't have any numbness in my hands of feet but my arms, legs, back, and shoulders ache. They say it's easier as far as nausia, which is true but the pain is constant. My onco said i could switch to weekly, smaller doses which i'm seriously considering. I'm 48 but have some arthitis problems before chemo, maybe that's why i'm having a bad reaction, hopefully you'll be fine Sheila. Hugs Angela

    Thanks Angela.

I was too sick Thursday, fever and had a rash but think Niacin flush so they gave fluids and had me come back Friday. Shaky hands and unsteady gait Saturday but bad muscle and joint pain about 5:30 am Sunday. Goes from hips down, worse on left side. Wow. Different from AC! My oncologist nurse practitioner said if I got this it was only a couple of days. Will call tomorrow for advice. The good thing I guess Taxol moves differently through the body hunting cancer cells. Happy Hunting Taxol!

Hi Sheila,How are you doing?I had my second Taxol yesterday and am going for my nuelasta shot later today. The doctor cut it in half,3mg,my wbcs were 37,crazy high so it hopefully won't be a problem and will help with the severe bone pain especially the lower back and thigh.I still would take the nausia over the pain any day.I hate that i'm constantly taking heavy duty painkillers, oxycodone 5mg every 6hrs and advil for muscle aches.Thinking about you and pray your second taxol will go well.Hugs Angela

I had my first dd taxol on Friday, Sept 13.  Started off great.  Tought I would sail through this like I did on AC, however by Sunday the muscle pain kicked in, then these random zingers, which feels like bolts of electricity zapping me.  Monday it continued.  Tuesday was MUCH better and so far today, I feel pretty good.  Just very slight achiness.

So far, I still have taste buds and eyebrows.  :-)

I have been stupefied - 10-325 by hydrocodone acetaminophen and Gabapentin -so far 300 mg at bedtime but tomorrow will take 2 and then 3 by next Monday if tolerated. At least takes care of pain. Tomorrow I have to white knuckle it ---no pain meds in morning to be able to drive myself to acupuncture appointment. The numbness of hands and feet weird. For me, Taxol is much harder than AC. My husband is away for work so a friend is coming out to feed farm animals Thursday and Friday afternoon but I'll still have to do mornings. Nodding off. Hope all of you are well as can be. Hugs, Sheila

Hi lighthouselady,I'm having a horrible time with ddt but most people find it easier than ddac. The good news is the nausia and constipation is ALOT less,I've gained back a few pounds and my hemmoriods are healing.I think in my case because i suffer from arthritis and the taxol has aggreviated it.Everyone reacts differently to chemo,so people gain weight some lose, some have goods blood counts and some don't. I will pray that you don't have the dreaded side effects from t that i've had.Hang in there girl, you'll be through this before you know it,I have one more to go,it's been terrible but has flew by.Hugs Angela
