4sewwhat - Thanks! We will kick any lingering cells to outer space never to be seen again!!

L2girl- Thanks for encouraging info on RADS.  I will wear my big girl panties on Monday and breathe deeply!  I love my coobie bras - soft and comfortable.  What lotions areyou using?

    Coobie bras? Do tell!

No lingering cells! Rads are just the exterminator making sure these buildings are inhabitable again :0)

Speaking of Big Girl Panties, do a search for just that. There is a lady from Australia that made a huge pair of boxer like shorts traveling all over the states meeting people off the threads and having them sign the panties! She has been to Canada and all over she was last spotted in Colorado. Awesome idea! Pics from all around the countries are beautiful too.

4sewwhat - I learned about coobie bras on this thread.  I had never heard of that brand.  I was at Von Maur a dept. store in our area and looking for some new bras when I saw coobies.  I decided to try one on and loved the comfort.  About $20.00.  Great to sleep in.  I am sure they are on line or at amazon.

I'd love to meet that lady sometime - kudos to her!!

I will have to look them up but honestly with all I've gone thru to get these new "perky" boobs don't really care if I ever see another bra again :0)

Finally got a call from the hospital and I start on Sunday! I hadn't thought to buy special bras, was that a mistake?

Canuck- it's funny you should say that I should think of it as maternity leave, because I got diagnosed when I went to the doctor for pre-pregnancy check ups! So, if I didn't have cancer, I'd probably be six months pregnant. Considering that I wanted a few more kids and now may not have any more (at least not for five years), my workplace might actually have come out on top!

L2girl, I just finished 2/28. Yesterday's was canceled cause computer was down. I'm hoping it doesn't happen again. Just added a day now. But I to thought I was gonna see some sorta beam come out. Lol. It seems it takes more time for the machine to move around then the actual treatment. I to have very sensitive skin. I feel heat when it starts. I'm going to ask RO on Monday if that's normal or am I'm just that sensitive.

    Canuck46,

There is a skin care regimen that is praised on the Summber Rads 2013 thread.  It call's for 100 Aloe after treatment and every 2 hours the followin in this order: Miaderm, Vitamin E Cream, Emu Oil, and Aquafor before bed.  Shower with Basis soap.  I have been doing it for my 1/2 and so far so good!  We'll see what the next 14 bring.

    Have a great day!

Ladies, I never thought I would say this, but I would take quadruplets over BC treatment any day.  LOL  I am 16/34 done today.  I am expecting my Fruit of the Earth Aloe gel any day now.  A very sweet coworker brought me an aloe plant.  Oh my goodness, they smell so awful!  Does the gel stink like that?  I have just a bit of red skin and red bumpy rash in the cleavage area.    I also feel a little swollen, but it's not painful.  I am wearing the soft bras I got at Target and the front-zip ones I bought for lumpectomy recovery, but I have had to change my work wardrobe because these bras just don't give me the support I really need.  Lots of loose tops which are comfortable but not very stylish.

When radiation is over, I am going to treat myself to some new bras and panties.

So, I am growing hair on my head now.  It is sooooo unattractive.  I call it skunk fuzz.  I have been a blond all my life and definitely colored the gray (don't we all?).  I wasn't sure what my natural color was but now I know it was SKUNK.    My wig is so natural looking and matched my pre-chemo hair....So going topless at some point is going to be a shock.    Any of you ladies going topless yet?  How did it go?

Imamom - So sorry didn't mean to offend anyone.  I hope you will have more healthy babies after you kick cancers A**!  I know several people who did.

    4sewwhat - I agree on quads bit!

vwbordelon- Thanks I will go to health store and see if I can get these creams.  Glad it is working well for you.  I will check summer rads.

I had simulation today. It went fast. Oh, before I had it, I got my seroma drained. 300ml!! I felt better, more comfortable with slightly better range of motion. My. RO said he could radiate like that but I needed to feel more comfortable. I'm really marked up with tape over the marks. No tattoos. The area is pretty large compared to what I had done on my other side. The marks on my supraclav can be seen easily. I really don't care though. I'm skipping my breast form (no prosthesis yet) much of the time and just going lopsided. Being in a different city makes that easier!

My hair is growing in but my lashes are falling out and my brows have both new growth and old falling out. I like to call my hair dandelion hair!

I know what you mean about the dandelion hair!  My daughter and I were looking at it last night - LOTS more gray then I remember!

Me too. Darker and lots of grey. I guess we only remember what we want to. Of course I kept mine colored for many years.

I am on my way to my set up appointment. Will get my treatment schedule today. I know it will be 5 weeks with no boosts.

Leaving town for the weekend so no internet for a couple of days.

Prayers to everyone getting treatments today.

    Hey all!

I am 14/33 rads. I notice a lot of people talking about swelling- I seem to be experiencing the oposite. Anyone else notice experiencing shrinkage? Also sunburn-like redness just appearing. I told my dr on Monday I feel tightness in my armpit and he said that was more likely related to my lymph node removal but I hadn't noticed it until after 2 weeks of rads.

I actually shaved off what hair came in at first because it was so spotty and almost all gray and fuzzy. I've kept it shaved (last chemo was on 7/24) and it's just now coming in SORT of normal (ish) texture and color-wise- still have what looks like male-pattern baldness. Lashes and eyebrows are almost all gone. Hoping to keep what's held on so far...

I have little white fuzz on my head but that's all. I can't wait to have some real hair to keep my head warm on these cool days.

Cider were your positive nodes in the supra clavicle area?

I am also one who is enjoying rads. How's that for weird. The drive is pretty and it's quiet in the early morning when I arrive. I like to watch the machines too. They have really good coffee so I get a cup of coffee for the drive home. This is way way better than chemo.

Just wanted to chime in on the work/kids/cancer treatment balance. I had the best of intentions of working straight through chemo but ended up missing 2 full months of work. My employer is AWESOME and has given me freedom to basically make my own schedule throughout treatment. Came back to work full-time on Aug. 28 when the boys went back to school (1st, 3rd and 10th grades). Started rads on 9/9. I'm exhausted. Don't know if it was coming back full-steam ahead without easing back into my schedule or if it's radiation causing my fatigue...

Nonetheless, I consider myself so lucky to have such an understanding employer. It was good for me to take time off to rest and I got to be with the kids while they were on summer break.. Some summer... geesh...

Hoping to be able to get a handle on exhaustion..

Hello there!  I was diagnosed on 9/11 the day before my Birthday.  Happy Birthday to me, Pathology report says ILC, high grade 2 and "extensive LCIS, with some other big words behind it.  Also ER & PR positive, HER-2/neu? Pending.  Had large tumor removed, then MRI waiting for another surgery to remove lymph nodes on Monday 9/30, they are suppose to find out what stage i'm in.  My surgeon says, once they get the results,  I will go to oncology for Radiation.  My surgeon has been "surprised" after each test, so I have been really surprised. We thought it was a large cyst, it hurt so bad.  I had a mamogram in March and nothing, got good report, I understand that is not uncommon for ILC.  So I wait, for what I hope will not be another BIG surprise.  I had my Tumor removed on 9/4, I am still hurting, is that normal?  I am a 32 A, or A-!  Would that make a difference?

Rrefresca....no shrinkage yet, but I have heard that can happen.  I am 17/34 and havent noticed either swelling nor shrinkage.   You could be right that going back to work slowly wouldn't have been so jarring.  I am doing well working through chemo and rads, but my health is first and if I need to, I will go on leave.  Do what is right for you and thank goodness you have a wonderful employer!

Neelie, so sorry that you have to deal with this disease.  I also had an MRI because it is important for your surgeon to make sure there isn't anything else lurking.  Lobular can be harder to detect with mammo and ultrasound.  Yes, it is normal for you to still be sore.  It generally takes about 3 weeks to feel better after a lumpectomy but it could take longer depending on the location of your lump.   Plus we are all different about the speed of healing.   Keep in mind that if you are small breasted, even a small lump is large in relation to the breast size and definitely could make your recovery a bit more difficult.  Be kind to yourself!!  And I hope you only have good surprises from here on out!

    Love,

    Sandra

Hi Ladies, I had 29/33 today and doing better now with a Rx cream, silvadene. It's my underarm area that was really hurting but the cream has really helped. I'm getting boosts to mastectomy scar for the last 5 treatments so I'm really hoping my underarm starts to heal.

As for hair, I cannot believe how much grey there is. Too short to color so I guess I'll keep wearing the stupid wig. Also I got some facial hair! Went to get my brows and face threaded. It seems my eyebrows, lashes, and "mustache & beard" grew in over night.

    Hi Neelie 2

I had lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node done together so can't comment on what you are feeling - but I will tell you what I was told recently- if in doubt - ask your surgeon.

Don't feel bad to get an appointment and to ask.

Also ask what is the next step after you get the pathology report from the lymph nodes - to complete the pathology report from the lumpectomy - most of us seem to have been to a medical oncologist and then to a radiation oncologist and then back to the medical oncologist.

I have a different diagnosis from yours - maybe someone with a similar diagnosis can advise you what is the correct order of things and what tests you should be getting.

    Best wishes

    Bounce

I did not have positive supraclavicular nodes but we are hitting them because of aggressive nature of the cancer and kill any possible micromets.

6 of 28 reg rads and 5 boosts left. Whew! I have been using 99% pure aloe vera gel and Aquaphor for discomfort. I had tried using an all natural cream from a highly respected company (starts with an O) and noted it caused my skin to turn bright red. Simpler the better is my motto. All in all my skin is holding up so far. The best advice I can pass along that was given to me is "cream cream cream". If you are uncomfortable during this process, don't be afraid to ask questions and seek advice from any and all sources.

Hi all. Thankful to find this thread. I'll be starting radiation in about 3 weeks, but will know more when I see my RO on Oct 9th so he can assess my healing from surgery and range of motion. I had a very aggressive cancer that spread rapidly, so I started treatment with 8 rounds of chemo, had one month off and then had surgery 10 days ago - double mastectomy with both axillary areas dissected. I see radiation as the third "event" in my year-long medical triathlon. By all accounts, it is the "easiest" event of the three, but I feel nervous about it because of my surgical scars and because I have intensely sensitive skin. and not least of all because I am completely worn out from chemo and the relentlessness of all these treatemtns and appointments. Has anyone experienced trouble swallowing or "esophagitis" from radiation? That was the most troublesome side effect the RO thought was a possibility, since I will have the lymph nodes above my collarbone radiated. Also, has anyone asked their RO if they can use henna instead of having the ink tattoos for rads? My Mom ran into someone here in Ottawa who pushed for that, and they accepted, so she will have no permanent rad dots. I'm thinking of doing the same. So grateful for all the things I learn on this site. I'm going to order some Miaderm lotion and Lindi products, to be prepared. I hope I can find them here in Canada. I seem to order everything from Amazon.com and have it shipped to my cousin in Texas (and she then ships to me) because that site seems to have everything, and much cheaper than we can get it here...IF we can get things here. Stay strong everyone. Hope you are enjoying gorgeous Fall weather, as we have here this week.

My first appointment is tomorrow- they scheduled it for the worst time when I will have to fight through two hours of traffic instead of the regular one hour drive! I'm hoping I'll be able to change the schedule tomorrow when I'm there.
