edited June 2014 in Lymphedema

I realized we were more prone to infection with Lymphedema (in the limb affected), but I wasn't aware that are immune system can be so taxed that we may get ill or infected in other areas easier. I was recently exposed to wet/muddy feet when my daughter's did a 200 mile relay (with 10 others) and I ended up with a bacterial infection in my big toe on the same side as my right arm/truncal lymphedema. (no open wound visible)  My dr said that it was because my immune is lower with the lymphedema. So, I am on some strong antibiotics, and may have to have iv if this doesn't kick it. I did catch it early, so we are hoping for the best.

My main point that I wanted to make is that you should watch for infections in other areas as well.
