    Jo,

You might want to ask your Dr about a PEM scan. My BS swears by it. Just got my results back from Fridays' PEM scan and YAY! -no surprises in either breast...just the aggressive booger in my rt one. I have had 2 mammos, U/S and PEM. BS prefers PEM over MRI. Going to oncs tomorrow to see what else they want to do for testing, etc. My BS is in France on vacation, so, lucky me, she'll be back refreshed and ready when I have to do surgery soon!

I hope all you ladies can get outside and enjoy the wonderful weather and are feeling well.

We've been having great weather here too, Terri.  Leaves haven't changed a lot yet here, but they're supposed to be at their peak color in the NC mountains in a couple of weeks in the mountains.  I want to go!  DS and family went last weekend and brought us some delicious mountain apples.

Terri, I need to look up PEM (and meant to do it before posting), as I don't know what that is.  The protocol here is diagnostic mammos for the first year after surgery, and then yearly diagnostics.  I'm now in the yearly part and that makes me nervous.

Chrissy, you're in a dead heat heading to the wire now and I hope everything's going well.  I assume there'll be people staying in your home since cleaning's on the agenda.  Thinking of you with prayers for speed!!  How's your outfit?

Just wanted to check in and hope all are having a good week.  I know I've neglected to mention someone but if I go back you know what'll happen!

    Hugs to all.

    Kathy,

The PEM scan is an alternative to a Breast MRI, I believe. Another diagnostic tool. It is similar to a mammo, but they inject you with some type of sugar...? You have to restrict your diet the day before from carbs. They inject, then you wait for 45 mins to get it through your system. You are scanned twice on each breast, for 10 mins each scan. You do get to sit down! Not a hard test, just time consuming. My BS says it will detect anything. BS did have a hard time getting my insurance (Aetna) to approve it, but they finally did. I am not sure if it is something they do after treatment as a follow up or not. This was part of my diagnostic testing. I am sure it's not "safe", but what can you do? I think I still have a few scans/tests to go before I get my treatment plan in place....waiting, waiting!Smile

I hope your yearly check up goes well!

Thanks for the explanation, Terri.  I have onco. appt in November and I'll ask him if he knows about it and about insurance coverage.  I'm a retired NC state employee and our insurance is BCBS.

Terri, I've never heard of a PEM scan so thanks for the info. Here's hoping that yours goes well and nothing more is found.

Kathy, I think I can, I think I can..............lol........ Just needed a break to let my fingers unkink........lol. I have about ten more minutes to finish the back and front of the crocheted top and I already have a sleeve half done so, with a little luck and not too many interruptions I should get this all finished today!........yay! I would like to be able to get it done and blocked before I go to bed tonight.

You are just finishing summer and we are heading for it!.......lol.......spring has well and truly sprung here and my garden (and everyone else's) is looking really lovely and of course the hills and surrounding country is still green so right now it is very pleasant. I love the way all you trees turn color! We have a few and they are imported but the natives here don't loose their leaves.

Well back to it! Got to get 'er done!

    Love n hugs. Chrissy

After talking to my RO, he explained it as the PEM actually detects molecular activity...and he agreed with my BS, that he doesn't like to use breast MRI's, either. Made me feel better about that decision! I hope that helps~ and, no, NOTHING else detected! YAY! My good news for the week!

Yay Terri! So good to hear that nothing more was detected! That PEM sure sounds interesting and I will have a discussion with my doc to see if they are available here in Aus.

I'm up to putting the sleeves in!.......yay! I just might get this top done.......lol.

    Have a good day all!

    chrissyb,

Thanks! Glad you are making some progress on your project. I have several projects that I need to start, but can't quite seem to wrap my head around them right now...hopefully, when I have my treatment plan in place, my mind will settle down.

    Blessings~

I know what you mean, Lisa.  I used my laptop with Windows 8 this summer at the beach, and it's been in the box since we returned.  I saw on the web that some kind of "fix" was coming in October and that's my excuse right now!

terri, yes, that is good news!!!! When your plan is in place you will have a goal. the PEM is interesting, I had never heard of it either. They are coming out with new tx and choices all the time.

chrissy, when is the big day? I can't remember. I am cheering you on!!!! I am that little, tiny voice that you hear saying go, go, go, you can do it!!!!!

I got a call from the cobbler that wants to move here and work in my shop today. They are coming!!!! He and his wife found a year round rental and will be here in January. My spirits are lifted. It is such a weight off my shoulders. His wife is so happy, he said she is almost giddy. He is very grateful to have a job doing what he loves and my customers will be so happy, too.

    Hope all are well.

Oops, also meant to say that's great, Terri.  You'll soon have a plan in place and be making progress!

And good news for you too, Nancy.  What a relief you must feel.

Chrissy, right down to the wire, girl.  You can do it and will look fabulous!!

I traded cell phones with my DD. She had a windows phone and I had an android. It is windows 8, I think, anyway a much smaller scale. She couldn't get instagram (?) on the windows. I have enough to handle with email, facebook, texting, and calling.............. so I don't miss the insta whatever. Took some getting use to, but I can catch up with you all, too, just not see the pictures.

All this learning must keep our brains stimulated, Lord knows I need it!!!

Well I did it!!! The outfit is done, complete!! What a rush! And it certainly was down to the wire but I will be able to turn up in a little more than my underwear........lol.

We have just gotten back from stage I of the setup and the rest will be done after service tonight. We got the lights up, dream catchers up and tables and chairs in place, worked out where to put the flowers and candles so tonight when we go back for stage II it will not take more than a couple of hours.......we hope! Tomorrow is "W" day so an early start and a looooong day........I am so tired now that I think I'm on auto pilot but I am looking forward to seeing DD wed the man of her dreams.

Lisa, Windows 8 is a bit challenging to begin with but once you get the hang of it it is really easy to find things.

Yay Nancy!! How good is that that there is a cobbler who want to work in your shop!!!

Well girls I'm heading for my bed for a short nana nap before we start stage II.......lol. Enjoy your day!

    Thanks ladies,

Your support and encouragement are priceless! Way to go Chrissyb!!

My Nurse patient navigator is priceless, too! She is working hard at getting my surgery moved up from the 18th to the 8th. Keeping my fingers crossed!

    Keepthefaith:

How lucky you are to have a nurse navigator!  I spend so much time on the telephone because no such person seems to be in my onc's office.  By the way, just wanted you gals to know that even though my original cancer was 12 years ago - followed by a lumpectomy, radiation and almost six years on AI's, my mets have not responded to the Exemestane I have been taking.  I had a port inserted yesterday and chemo beginning probably on Monday.

I can't wait for some diversion such as reading about Chrissy's daughter's wedding.  I have lovede her enthusiastic posts about the preparations and now look forward to pictures and her great descriptions.

Please send warm thoughts my way next week.  Will keep you posted

    Marianne,

Sorry to hear that news. I hope your new treatment is successful. I'm sure the treatments they offer today are different than what you had before and have improved. Wishing you few or minimal SE's during this battle. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I had a nurse navigator before my surgery.  The radiologist botched the wire locator for the sentinal node biopsy because it was supposed to be done by my surgeon after I was under anesthesia.  He wouldn't listen to me at all when I told him this wasn't supposed to be happening.  The bs was livid about this, since she'd taken special training to do this herself because patients had told her how painful it was.  The nurse navigator showed up in the recovery room with a potted philodendron with a pink ribbon on it, and that's the last time I saw her.

A small satisfaction is that my case changed the protocol of the hospital, plus there was no charge for the later radiation.

Marianne, thinking of you for next week too.  Hope it goes well and you have no problems.

Chrissy, thinking of you today.  Rest tomorrow, and then post pictures.  We all want to see them!

I just wanted you to know that the port insertion on Friday went well with almost no discomfort.  The tissue behind the new port was very tender but as long as I didn't touch that area I hardly knew it was there.  I was shocked on Monday when the oncologist said we would start chemo as soon as he had finished talking to me as I knew it hadn't healed.

How fortunate I was to get the nurse assigned to me.  She was so gentle and I hardly felt the needle going in.  The biggest surprise to me was how long it all took as I am getting two different drugs and there were two bags of anti-nausea drugs given before the chemo drugs.  I don't feel too bad today and actually was able to spend most of the day working on my paper work, a journal and getting new files made up.  I can't believe the paper work involved with cancer, tests and treatment.

Still anxious to hear about Chrissy's daughter's wedding.  I know that will lift my spirits as I am not looking forward to losing my hair so need to hear nice things from down under.

    Hugs to all, Marianne

Thanks, Wren.  I've never been on that thread before (I can't sew or anything remotely similar) and I'd have never found them.

Chrissy, beautiful, beautiful pictures!  You and DH are quite the handsome couple, and your outfit is gorgeous.  And DD's dress, oh my!

Hope all are having a good week.  I saw the birth announcement DD and SIL are sending out--there's a picture of the baby and the quote "She be little but she be fierce."  Think that's from "A Midsummer Night's Dream"  and is very appropriate!

    Love to all,

Chrissy, went to that page.  What a beautiful family you have.  You can tell your daughter and SIL are so much in love.  I can't believe how much you did for the wedding.  Your daughter is very lucky.  I love the picture of you and your DH.

Marianne, here's one way to find the pictures--Go to "Search" and search under member name Chrissyb.  Scroll down until you see a thread called "The Journey has begun!!! aka ChrissyB's USA adventure.  The pictures are posted toward the end of that thread.

    Hope this helps.
