2nd Time - it sure is. I know a couple gals live out near the Riverside area
-
2ND TIME: I am in Moreno Valley. C'mon in.
Where are you treating? I'm with kaiser. Just got out of Fontana's new hospital today.
-
SheChirple, I'm being treated at St Joseph's in Orange. Had very bad experiences going with Corona Regional Med Ctr and doctors here back 16 years for the first go-round. Felt like I was being treated by hicks. Been dealing with St Joe's ever since and couldn't be happier, worth the drive. Didn't know about the new hospital in Fontana, just the huge new KP complex in Anaheim. When I was at previous job, had most of my clients in Moreno Valley and Riverside areas. Also taught special ed 1 year in MoVal. Are you back working?
-
I'm off work 4 wks, post DIEP, planning to return to work 6/24. I had a rough time with the surgery, but I'm starting to feel better, one week postop. So, we'll see. My PS is the best, I just had some issues with the new facility and staff. I'll get over it.
-
SheChirple, good to hear you're feeling better! (For some reason, I thought it was 4/24). Hoping this hot weather doesn't interfere with recovery
-
Mary - I must have missed the thread about your recent surgery... I saw on facebook that you were out of hospital, and although I knew you were having a procedure, didn't realize it was DIEP. So sorry to hear that you had issues with some of the staff, so unlike Kaiser. Glad to hear that you are feeling a little better, keep us posted please
Had my follow up yesterday and got the scoop.
My pectoral muscle had thinned to the point of detaching in some areas. My implant had no coverage, which actually looked pretty good in my opinion, lots of projection... however, not good in my PS's opinion, and he spent an hour taking implant out, stitching up muscle and putting everything back in.
Wearing heavy support garment now, in place of heavy duty post surgery lipo tummy wrap. Had to get garment with legs, as bulges I was unaware of, showed up! This prompted my teenager to tell me I am chubby not fat, as if there is a difference. How silly young girls are!
The fat grafting looks amazing, but my PS did not use enough fat in some of the hollows, which are still hollow.... of course right on my cleavage line... unless some other emergency happens, going to live with them. Just want to be done!
-
DM13: You need a break with all these complications! OY! But June Gloom is definitely your friend if wearing a support garment with legs!
SheChirple, hope you are progressing as well!
-
Dawn: thank you, I am progressing well. I post in the DIEP thread mostly, right now.
I did have a rough time with some of the staff. As usual, I was telling hubby 'never again', no matter what I say I'm done. No more nip tuck, no more surgeries. He just nods. He knows.
I have reached the 'of course I"m going to finish all the recon' stage. It was rough, but I will follow through.
I know it's not LA, but would anyone be interested in attending a get together at the San Diego Zoo, Sept 21st, Saturday? No special planning, just where to meet.
http://www.sandiegozoo.org/zoo/celebration/
My husband and I go every few years and have decided to go this year. We usually get a local hotel room, enjoy the evening tremendously and then spend the night. There are a couple of bc.org San Diego ladies who have already said they might go. Check it out. Closer to the date, I'll post it again. $90 per person through Sept 7th, then $100 per person. Tax Deductible and a lot of fun.
-
Mary,
I am so relieved to hear that you are doing better. I have been so worried about you!
I am going down to San Diego in August... too much for me to go down the following month - lol.
-
Hi ladies, would love to meet you all at the zoo, but will need to pass. Unfortunately, being without employment has put a serious dent in the budget and COBRA is fairly expensive. Hoping to meet up in the near future! Have fun!
-
So, what happened, did anyone meet at the zoo? Also want to see if anything else is happening.
-
Not sure, but there is a couple of us out in the San Fernando Valley that would love to get together
-
Just one other BC sister met me at the San Diego Zoo. But, we had a blast.
I'm always up for a meeting, if I can swing it. -
Hello any BC champs living in LA! I'm new to LA (Woodland Hills) and new to BC. The "LA" in my username is actualy my first and middle initials, not a reference to the town. Anyone out there active on this thread?
-
Welcome, LA. Guess this thread has been quiet. I live in WLA. There have been some get-togethers by this group. Nothing recently, to my knowledge. Are you currently getting chemo? How is it going for you?
-
Good evening Pessa. Yes, I started chemo on Friday. So far, so good. Typical fatigue, loss of appetite, etc. Nothing remarkable, just getting used to the idea of being sick. I'm a wife, mother of two, marathon runner, lover/owner of golden retrievers, insurance executive. Cancer was never an adjective I would have thought to describe me. Then again, who does??
I love SoCal! I've been out here on & off for business over several years. Last Sept I moved here while DH, kids and dogs stayed out east. Our son was a high school senior and we wanted him to finish the year there. I had an apartment at the Palazzo, right across from The Grove & Farmers Market. Tough year but we got through. Our son is a freshman at the University of Saint Andrews and DH/DD are here with me. Thank goodness. I couldn't have handled this last year with everything else we had going!
These discussion threads have been helpful. It's nice to connect with others who have gone through or are on the same journey.

Welcome LARock - I sent you a private message
I am up for a get together... it has been a while. Anyone else?
-
Hi ladies, I'm not on BCO a lot anymore, but could be up for a get together, best way to get me consistently is a PM.
-
Hey LARock, I'm not on here a lot either anymore, but I live right by theBCavenger....I would totally be up for a get together.
-
Let's plan for this next week... I have tons of stuff going on with Halloween and kids. etc. do we want to weekend or something during the week?
-
Yes, I can hook up some time that week. Breakfast would best for me, any day but Thursday
-
Did a gathering happen? I'm usually open weeknights (I'm a teacher) and some on weekends. Would enjoy a get together. I'm adding this group to the ones that I get emailed about to try to stay on top of it.
-
Not that I'm aware of... Had some issues with me teenage daughter, so have been pretty distracted. If someone sets up, I will go. This weekend is bad, FYI
-
Hi
I live in Santa Monica and would love to connect with some people in L.A. Is this the only Los Angeles forum? Im looking for any local resources that you may know of here to help me during treatment. I am about to have my second round of chemo this week.
-
seagirl - I'm in LA, lives near Santa Monica. I finished chemo 4 weeks ago and just started radiation.
-
Also live in LA, on the westside. Finished chemo 4 years ago. Didn't use any particular resources beyond help from my friends.............
-
Hi seagirl. I live in Woodland Hills. I had my fourth round of chemo last week - two more left. I don't know what kind of resources you're looking for but take a look at Reflections Boutique at the UCLA med center. I've been there twice to buy scarves and hats. Check them out online and/or give them a call.
-
Simms/Mann – UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology offers lots of support from support group to workshops and lectures. Check out their website at http://www.simmsmanncenter.ucla.edu. I'm in their support group and met wonderful women. Another organization you might find helpful is Cancer Support Community Benjamin Center. I haven't been there but heard good things about them. http://www.cancersupportcommunitybenjamincenter.or...
Hope this helps.
-
Hi Rose, you are probably all set with an oncologist at City of Hope, but for what it's worth, I have heard from two separate sources that Dr. Waisman at the Main Duarte Campus is great.

Hello, Anyone in the San Gabriel Valley/Pasadena area?
