Bone scan says probable multiple bone mets

Options

I have been in denial since last week when I got the results of my bone scan.  I have been having sciatica for several months.  Oncologist ordered blood work and x-ray.  X-rays ok, but tumor marks and alkaline phosphotase up some.  He then ordered a bone scan and abdominal ultrasound.  Ultrasound ok but bone scan is shows probable osteoblastic mets to sternum, ninth rib, both scapulas, both iliac crests and right humerus.  Oncologist is taking my file before the special session tomorrow and then we will meet with him at noon.  It is like this is not happening.  I am really nervous for tomorrow.  I am a missionary here in Costa Rica and miss my family more than ever now.  Could it be something else?

Kathy

Could be marks from bone trauma. Can you come back to the US?

Kathy, so very sorry to hear this news. I hope with all my heart that it's benign stuff, like gritgirl said above. Ever since coming to these boards, I have admired all you do in your missionary work, though I probably should have said it before now. Sorry, I waited until you were in crisis to let you know that. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed and holding you in my thoughts.

If it does turn out to be mets, please know you can do well. It's been almost eight years for me with widespread mets and I'm still kicking.

Kathy, was this your first bone scan ever, or have you had one before? Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you ladies for your responses.  I have had three bones scans along the line, all negative.  I have no insurance in the U.S. so I will not be able to come back.  We also have custody of a teenage girl from Nicaragua and I would not leave her she has been through too much.  I am headed off to church for pastor breakfast and then on to my appointment.  Will update when we get home.  Thank you again ladies and God Bless

gritgirl, I did get Herceptin with the treatments nearly 5 years ago.  I should find out tomorrow what the treatment is this time.  How do I change my stats in here?  We are in the process of moving so that should keep me busy and not let my mind wonder to far down the road.  We have socialized medicine here and I have been happy with that so far.  I am very thankful for this site and all the ladies here.  Blessings all
