Prognosis of triple negative recurrence in breast??

Options

Hi,

I had a local recurrence in my right breast.  My first was in 2000. So far for what I read thats almost unheard of. It is a recurrence I understand.

Anyone has had this situation?  after chemo and rads what are chances it will come back?  my nodes were clear, my scans, no LVI, clear margins.   What has the doctor told you?

You will get the best information about 3N from this organization:http://www.tnbcfoundation.org/

Ask your question there, if you haven't already done so.

There is also a fprum for 3N on this website.

I have looked at that site. They don't really seem to know a lot. They do seem to be full of doom and gloom . Read enough do not like the site but thanks for the info. I see there a lot of women here who have been thru my experience maybe someone will give some input .

Hi Lauren,  I'm also a 2 times IDC-TN survivor.  My first DX was in January of 2008 I had lumpectomy, chemo & rads.  I then had what they termed a true local recurrence, had chemo again, bi-lateral mastectomy and DIEP reconstruction.

The doctors make no guarantees that it will never come back again, they can't, they truly don't have any way of knowing, as every patient has a different outcome.  I think as long as you still have no signs of mets, you'll do just fine.

    Best of luck!

Hi- I was just Dx'd TN a couple of weeks ago- i see a surgeon at Sloan Kettering on Thursday. My first cancer was triple positive. I now feel like my only option is a double mast with recon (hoping for diep) but the surgery absolutely TERRIFIES me :(

Will let you know what the drs say Thursday RE the reoccurrence. The radiologist called it a "new developing cancer." I was gob-smacked when my onc told me it was TN - tho I guess it means the 5 years of Tamox worked.

    Joilynn,

I don't know yet that I am cancer free for sure since i was diagnosed August 2012. In 3 1/2 years or so I will know better. But I am doing checkups and no sign of it coming back. I did chemo, then bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction, then radiation. I was the same as you...stage 2b (1 positive node), 3 cm. IDC tumor, grade 3. Chemo often works well on grade 3. Feel free to private message me with any questions, or post here.

    Lauren,

I wish you the best with this new cancer journey.  I also have TN.

Your story really interested me first because you are a ten year plus survivor.of TN even though you now have a  reoccurence.   I would really like to hear more of your story.

    Placid44,

    Thank-you for responding.

They did a lumpectomy vs a mastectomy.  I just finished my first round  of chemo which was 4 sessions of adrimaycin and cytoxan.  I start the second round of 12 treatments of paciltaxel next week.  Then 7 weeks of radiation.

I had questioned my doctor if a mastectomy would have been a better choice, improve survival but she said no.  I still wonder?

Joilynn, you might check out the information and forums at the Triple Negative Foundation.

    http://www.tnbcfoundation.org/

To answer your question about lumpectomy/radiation versus mastectomy, studies stretching out 25 years have found them to be equivalent as far as the number of women still alive.

    See

Yes the surgeries and radiation was done 30 years ago, but lumpectomy and radiation has only gotten better since then.

Hi all just dx again...idc. I am assuming its from the same dx but don't have all the results. It was in same area as original tumor. So is it a continuation or local recurrence? Just tired of this cancer business.

    Rachel

My double mx was 8/14/13  followed by radiation. I guess I have to update

I was diganosed in 2003 triple neg, and I'm still NED as of today.  I had chemo, rads and a lumpectomy.  No node involvement.

As you can see from my history, I've had breast cancer twice, 13 years apart.  My MO thinks that they are two different primaries, not a recurrence of the first cancer.
