The breast cancer vaccine hailing from the Cleveland Clinic was found to be 100 percent effective in preventing breast cancer in mice that were bred to develop the disease. This is in comparison to a control group of mice who all developed breast cancer.

Today, the Breast Health and Healing Foundation along with the Cleveland Clinic have incredible and wonderful news to report! The next step for the preventive breast cancer vaccine has begun. It looks like the Phase I will not begin until 2015 and will only recruit treated triple negative people. Phase II will recruit only those who are undiagnosed. I am in a similar vaccine trial for treated triple positive patients.

Yes, it is depressing to think that one of the biggest breast cancer organizations in the United States, Komen, denied support to this promising vaccine. Regardless, we've had enough of a rootgrass effort to get the funding necessary for clinical trials! So proud of the women around this country!

I'm not sure which type of breast cancer patients (Stage 0 thru IV) are being recruited. I know that the immediate next step is to get FDA approval to move forward with clinical trials. The FDA is sure to approve it, but it may take some time (hopefully months not years!)

The important part is that we have enough funding to go through Phase I clinical trials, which gives us some hope for the future generations!
