duckyb, hello!
Forgive me, but I don't remember if you have a good LE therapist. This is something you want to see her/him about before the surgery, so you can be as prepared as possible. As to whether this is an LE problem, I'm afraid it is.
It is not often diagnosed, though, because surgeons are...well, you know how they are.
So you'll want to see a therapist both before and after surgery to help keep your lymph system working at top capacity and hopefully head off any trouble.
The good news is that you're aware of the possibility, so you can be on top of it quickly if you need to. Please keep us posted!
Gentle hugs,
Binney -
I have a friend who developed LE in lower leg after minor knee surgery. She had not had any other surgeries previously. Though usually rare, LE can develope after any traumatic 'happening' (injury/surgery/etc.). I was warned MANY yrs ago after a serious lower leg riding injury (no broken bones - just soft tissue damage) -that LE was a possibility. Never happened -BUT could have.

Thanks Bin.....only thing holding me back.......not sure if you remember how I gave up after 2 fittings and both sleeves were made wrong....my LE therapist was ok, but scheduling was bad....next one was ok, but she wanted to start all over from the beginning.....$40.00 co-pay was getting too much....at that point I had spent close to $1,000 and still had no sleeve...gave up......

Ducky, LE rots. But being unable to walk due to knee pain rots too. Leg LE is NOT guaranteed with knee replacement--it's just a possibility. MOST knee replacements (like most bc surgeries) do not result in LE. And leg LE, while it's a bother, is not going to keep you from walking. So even if it turned out to be a trade-off, it's a better one than continuing to suffer.
Knowing what to be aware of puts you in a good position to get help promptly if it's ever needed--and your chances are very good that it never will be needed. Keep us posted!
Gentle hugs, and real peace in your decision,Binney
