Have you ever heard of the preventive breast cancer vaccine?
The breast cancer vaccine hailing from the Cleveland Clinic was found to be 100 percent effective in preventing breast cancer in mice that were bred to develop the disease. This is in comparison to a control group of mice who all developed breast cancer.
Today, the Breast Health and Healing Foundation along with the Cleveland Clinic have incredible and wonderful news to report! The next step for the preventive breast cancer vaccine has begun. We have fully funded the breast cancer vaccine for Phase I clinical trials, which will determine the safety of using this preventive method in women. A spin-off company, Shield Biotech, will finish pre-clinical development and seek FDA approval to test the vaccine in human clinical trials. This press release will provide you will all the details. We hope you're just as excited about this news as the rest of us!! http://my.clevelandclinic.org/media_relations/library/2013/2013-09-17-cleveland-clinic-innovations-creates-spin-off-company-to-develop-vaccine-for-preventing-breast-cancer.aspx

This is amazing....and hate to beat dead horse.....but SGK has denied support. Hmmmmmmmmmm
-
Are Stage IV patients being recruited (NED for phase Ib, for example)?
-
Gotta keep an eye on this thread.
Very interesting,and just before Focktober
Is anyone surprised that komen denied support?????
Thank u Devka for posting this.

It looks like the Phase I will not begin until 2015 and will only recruit treated triple negative people. Phase II will recruit only those who are undiagnosed. I am in a similar vaccine trial for treated triple positive patients.

Yes, it is depressing to think that one of the biggest breast cancer organizations in the United States, Komen, denied support to this promising vaccine. Regardless, we've had enough of a rootgrass effort to get the funding necessary for clinical trials! So proud of the women around this country!
I'm not sure which type of breast cancer patients (Stage 0 thru IV) are being recruited. I know that the immediate next step is to get FDA approval to move forward with clinical trials. The FDA is sure to approve it, but it may take some time (hopefully months not years!)
The important part is that we have enough funding to go through Phase I clinical trials, which gives us some hope for the future generations!
-
I'm hoping to get in another trial. METAvivor funds just this type of research. Susan Komen is about their admin costs.

Cleveland Clinic's preventive breast cancer vaccine development takes step forward
(Now we need another trial for those of us going off Tamox or AI. Those patiens who are post chemo treatments past a few months or years - we are always excluded from these trials. The patients in the 5 - 15 year period....)

Do you know that Dr. Ruddy of the Breast Health and Healing Foundation is one of the first proponents of this vaccine?
To learn more about her, the best place to start is with her autobiography.
Dr. Kathleen Ruddy's autobiography about her life as a woman, mother, breast cancer surgeon, and health advocate is available for purchase on Amazon through a Kindle. Take a look: amzn.to/18LL6jG Thanks!!

Dear Friends,
I was honored to be asked to participate in an Australian project
entitled, “Survivor Secrets” by fellow survivor Gai Comans. It’s a guide
for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and contains interviews from
21 survivors around the world. Please share this with anyone you know
facing this disease. It’s a free e-guide and Gai did a fabulous job
putting it all together.Judy Medeiros Fitzgerald
