BRAC testing ????
I had core biopsy in august 2013. showed radial scar. Ended up with another surgeon and had lumpectomy at beginning of Sept. Results were all B9, fibrocystic change with apocrine metaplasia, focal intraductal epithelial hyperplasia without atypia, rare microcalcifications. I had follow up with my surgeon and she said you are good for a year. My mother had bc before age 50. i discussed this with breast specialists and she said I did not meet critieria for brac testing as I only had one relative. even with lumpectomy she still said see ya in a year. I told her i did not have any sisters or aunts. only mother having bc. neither grandparents had bc to my knowledge. my obgyn had previously suggested in past several years but i was getting mammo's every 6 months anyways due to cysts they were following up. I am 46 years old.
At times I would like to get it done as I would not have any problem on taking them off for prevention. But also i have been through a big roller coaster ride for the past month and a half as well.

i have met my deductable for the year per the phone call to the insurance company.
with my mother having bc before 50 and my cysts complex and simple I had been getting diagnostic mammograms every 6 months.
now with lumpectomy and findings dr said see ya in a year and no to brac testing. dr said needed 2 family members, even though i explained i have small family.
just confused right now. i think i should have testing but i have just been through such a ride.
greatful of my findings but findings say slight increase of chance of future development, also slight chance of future development due to mother.
but then other studies say just because my mother had it does not mean i will get it.

110- consider making an appointment with a genetic counselor. You can get an informed opinion concerning testing and if the counselor recommends testing they can arrange it (and, if you want, submit their conclusions to your insurance company so that you can hopefully have the cost covered.) For a list of good genetic counselors go to the web site www.facingourrisk.org . A genetic counselor will take a limited family into account as well as other cancers in the family associated with the BRCA mutation (in addition to breast and ovarian cancer, there are other cancer that indicate the presence of the mutation.) Look at this AETNA web site -- see item number "V" under BRCA testing.
