August 2013 Chemo Sisters

I tried to send a private message to Salty/Jack but got a message that I have a limited number of private messages I can send in one day. That was my third today. I guess I'm limited to two. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to write and will try not to leave anything out so I can get it all in one. I'm still doing well today. Prayer is the answer. I got the neulasta shot today. I liked what you wrote and agree and will support that decision. Sharon

Well, this thread certainly has been quiet today, hasn't it? I'm sure that wasn't the moderators' intention when they commented on the "religious" content of some of the posts....
I checked out the September Chemo thread and several of the ladies from this thread indicated they felt more comfortable there. I'll miss them and wish them well - smooth, SE-free journeys and cancer-free outcomes.
Where does that leave those of us who are left on this thread? I personally find FMGD's daily declaration and lovewins' Bible verses as valuable as hints to treat mouth sores and constipation.
Do others feel the same? I'm not sure how to proceed if that's the case. I can PM the moderators and ask them to rename this thread (if they don't want to leave it as it is, knowing that we've kind of split ourselves between August and September based on our approach to spiritual posts). Does anybody have any other ideas? If you'd rather PM me or send a message to the moderators, that's fine. I just don't want to lose what we all have together and am hoping to find a way to continue as we were.
Thanks for any ideas.

Hi all,
We know this is a gray line, but ultimately, this thread is located in the Chemotherapy Forum and so the subject of Chemotherapy should be the main focus of this thread. We want all who have experienced Chemo in Aug 2013 to feel welcome here -- regardless of their religious affiliation (or lack thereof). You are more than welcome to discuss your spiritual beliefs on a new Chemotherapy and Sprituality thread in the Prayers and Spiritual Inspriation forum.
Thank you for your understanding, and for keeping our forums a welcoming place for ALL breast cancer sisters and brothers.--The Mods

For those of you who want to continue with the spiritual/religious postings, here is a suggestion: I was part of another forum thread that bonded really well and we ended up starting our own private Facebook group. Now we can post to each other and feel free to say whatever we want. No one else can see it. Personally I have to agree with the Moderators, I participate in this forum because I am here to discuss chemo and the related issues. Just my comments.
-
It was never my intention to make someone feel uncomfortable...this has really saddened me and I am unsure how to proceed, I belong to both Aug and Sept.
-
Great evening!!!
I love talking about my faith and can encourage using parables. That may be fun. I was running late this morning, that's why I didn't do the declaration.
Looking at the entire picture, my chemo hasn't been bad at all + I don't focus on SEs or feeling bad so I really don't know what else to talk about. Chemo is such a small part of who I AM so I don't want to make it a focus, even when talking to you ladies.
I guess if the discussion is limited to chemo, then we probably shouldn't talk about our children, jobs, my soaps or vending or making beautiful scarves or anything outside chemo . . . boy does that stink!
-
I just checked out theAll Topics Forum: Prayers and Spiritual Inspiration Topic: Christian support? thread, there were 2 other posts
.
That may be where I fit better.
Check out the many options, see what your interested in and lets meet there. Let me know what you think!
-
FMGD, Sharon and anybody else who might be intersted: check out this thread:
All Topics → Forum: Older than 60 Years with Breast Cancer → Topic: thread for middle age to older Christian women.
I read a few of the posts and it might be good for us. I'm 55....hopefully the nice ladies there will let me stay?

Wow! Had a rough week following chemo ;ast Wednesday (3rd dose-dense AC), so haven't checked in. Big changes. Hmmm...
GGM: My 2-year-old grandson is coming in on Friday (with his mom and 2-month-old sister).
How did you handle the bald head with Gavin? I wear headcoverings for the most part, but I know he'll ask/tell me to "take hat off, Mimi." I mentioned writing on my head with markers, but my daughter said that wasn't an option since they're trying to teach him not to write on his body.
Need your wisdom! Glad to see you on the ILC board. The conversation has revved up lately!
Wing: My oncologist has said the same about the DD Taxol, but after looking at all the most recent studies, I am leaning towards 12x weekly. The long-term results are the same (which is what he is looking at with less time), but the side effect profile is much better w/ the 12x weekly regimen. There were some articles posted this summer from the 2013 American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting comparing the two (though the DD Taxol was 6 rounds to get the full 12 weeks). Weekly had more blood-related side effects (i.e. low white blood cell counts) and the two-week Taxol had more allergic reactions, bone pain, and neuropathy. The doctor that presented was actually from Memorial Sloan-Kettering (where the DD Taxol approach was pioneered) and said that the results would change the way that he practiced (12x weekly with fewer side effects). Anybody with more input on this, please share! I have one more AC (next Wednesday), so he has given me three weeks to decide.
Sharon: So sorry about your dad! My MIL broke her first hip last December and the second after being home a week-and-a-half from rehab in February (she's 90). It's been hard because she still wants to live alone and we're the only ones close by, so am thankful that you have other siblings that can take on some of the caretaking of her while you take care of yourself. Will be praying for you! And thanks for the offer of laundry, etc... I sure wish that you were close enough that I could take advantage of it! Just sayin'!
SaltyJack: I will send you a personal message. I think we have way more in common than just our Dx.
-
SaltyJack, I'll wash your mouth out with my handmade soap . . . I just turned 50!!! LOL Only kidding.
-
Martie, that is so cute😄I was so afraid Gavin would be afraid of me with no hair but so far I have worn colorful scarves and skull caps when I have been around him, he does look at me a little funny though. I just keep telling him how much Grrma loves him so I hope my voice and spirit remind him of who I am , it is my biggest fear that he will not recognize me😥that would break my heart💔We ILC sisters need to stick together, just give those babies loves and kisses, they know grandma loves them. Hair or no hair( but from the bottom of my heart, those of us with no hair have a love for those babies that words cannot express) Hugs, I have treatment #3 tomorrow so I will touch bases ASAP😄

Just wanted to say hi. Now that I am feeling better, I hope to get back online and get caught up. I had low white blood counts on Monday but so far no bone pain from shot. Maybe the claritin and aleve are working this time.I am still having issues sleeping. My husband getting one of those breathing masks for sleep apnea isn't helping. I say now we make quite the pair...I am the bald frankenboobie lady and he's Darth Vader.
-
Oh Lisa I got my buff today...just in time for survivor. I love it!
-
Mankatostate: Yay! Got a new Buff from my husband and its fantastic. Its from Survivor China which was our favorite. It will have a great double meaning for me. Ill be heading out to the home stretch by Christmas!
-
mankatostate, I'm glad you're feeling better; continue to BE well!
-
Great Morning!!!
Today's declaration: Today, I AM healthy, whole + complete with nothing missing or broken!
What are you declaring over your life?
-
Lisa I haven't seen that season. We rent them off of amazon so I will have to check the season out. I have been looking at them wear those headcovers for a while wondering if they would work. I find them the most comfortable and covering of head yet. I know they are more expensive but if anyone is unhappy with the scarves they found you might want to check these buffs out and you don't have to get a survivors buff. :-)

When things part in this world, I am sticking with Christ. He is the Great Physician and in His Word, the Holy Bible, it tells us that if we deny Him before man, He will deny us before the Father. We are in the process of making a new thread. I am so old I didn't realize that not everyone believes in Christ. I'll still pray for them because the Bible says that He is the only Way to the Father and salvation. The Holy Bible has never been proven wrong or disappeared form the earth totally. Other books come and go, but this one will live on forever. God bless everyone. I do understand when people are looking to see how chemo goes for others they wouldn't want anything but facts, but for those who know that God is the answer to all of our ills, we do need another thread. I consider myself honored to have met some awesome people on this thread, and I cound every one of you to whom I have made comments. I do not fault you for wanting to leave for the reasons stated. You're always welcome on our new thread, which isn't created yet, but when you find us, you're welcome there.
Marty, It's a good thing we don't live close because the steroids did not affect me that way this time. Hogwash. I left a lot of work to be done the day before chemo so I had to do the jobs anyway. I just bypassed the upstairs. No one goes up there but me and my GD anyway. She wouldn't know a mess if she had to climb over it.
I love the hat. I am making some very similar without the bill. I am making the front hairline part thicker so it won't look so tight. I love the long ties, so I'm using the same pattern and making the ties long.
SaltyJack and I were talking about making a new thread. I hate to leave anyone who enjoys this thread, but we can tell them the name of it and they can look it up. This board has helped calm my nerves about cancer since I can see that others experience similar things. I can't do without the companionship right now. We'll work out something. The world is becoming more and more secular each day. We expected it, but it is still a shock to me. Sharon

I would like to join the new thread when it comes. I need the support as well. My faith is a big part of my life. Yesterday I found out my best friend has uterine cancer. STUPID CANCER! Trying not to be depressed today but feeling very sad...my parents are just so awesome...right now they are cutting out the pieces to make me a do-rag. How touching is that? I am 53 years old. I hope everyone is doing well...I am also dreading the upcoming 2nd treatment...makes me want to puke to even think about it.
-
lovewins, I just had my second treatment on Tuesday and I'm actually doing better than the first time. I am taking the anti-nausea medicines by the clock instead of taking them when I feel nauseous and I'm taking Claratin for the pain from the neulasta shot. I am jittery and nervous today, but not feeling too awfully bad. I don't know if you have anti-nausea meds prescribed. If not, get some. You can do this and we'll help you get through it. SaltyJack is the one who is working on a new thread. We exchanged emails so we wouldn't lose touch with one another. Maybe you should give one of us your email or address in a private message. If possible, we will put the new thread on here so people who want it can find it. Sharon
-
I will be sorry if the thread changes. I don't always post, but I read everything and feel I know all of you.
This go around has not been too bad, but my stomach is still going. I stopped taking all the nausea pills and my stomach felt terrible so I am back to taking them every 8 hours. Even a week after treatment!
I got some buffs from amazon and I love them so far. They are very comfortable and did not cost too much-4 buffs for $15.50.
-
Hi all, I am at Sierra Nevada Cancer Center getting my 3rd round of A/C today, yea after today 3 down 1 to go😄
-
Tanya I feel the same way. I don't post often but I read the threads everyday and feel inspired by all the courage that is on this thread. I go in for my third treatment tomorrow. I seem to have the worst side effects ever, but I deal with them as they come. I just feel so anxious this chemo round because I know what to expect. I just want this over and get back to living the new normal life. I am so tired of feeling this way. Hugs to everyone!!
-
Thank you Sharon I sent you my email address! I am glad you are having an easier time this time. I hope I am better able to medicate myself this time. My anti nausous pills are so strong. I took them 4 hours apart and I think that was too close they say 4-6 hours. So I cut them in quarters for next time because honestly I was afraid of over dosing. I may ask my dr for something else. I just really wanted to stay ahead of the nausea but I was so drugged up...
Gavinsgrand....How awesome 3 down 1 to go!!!! I hope you have an easy time this go around.
Togetherness...I too am encouraged and inspired by these threads. I hope you have an easier time next time...I understand how you are dreading it cuz I am too. Hugs back at you.
For my first treatment I had a private room with tv...next time I won't. I have a nook and will take that, also thinking of getting a funny book to listen to. I find it so hard to focus these days. What do you all do while getting treatment? Last time it took 6 hours but they ran it slow...next time they said it would be around 4 hours. Have a wonderful day ladies.
-
Hi Ladies - I'm so glad to see you out there today. I checked out the September thread and it seems like several people have moved there because they want to focus more on chemo than faith. Lovewins, I agree with you - how can we separate life from our faith? I've learned so much from you all and honestly, the past 24 hours have been hard because I felt like I was losing a big part of what's kept me going on this journey.
Great news, though - I posted on a new thread (All Topics → Forum: Older than 60 Years with Breast Cancer → Topic: thread for middle age to older Christian women), describing myself as a "refugee" from this thread - and didn't have any response for like 12 hours....so was feeling pretty sorry for myself. However - anybody who wants fantastic support, other believers, folks praying for you as well as having great advice about every step of our journey needs to check it out. The ladies there have now made me feel at home (and said you're all welcome, too - they're refugees from other "secular" threads, too!).
So - hopefully we can meet there as well as here.
Whether you do or not, though, I'll be praying for everybody - you've all touched my life and helped me along this crazy road we're on.
-
I had 3/6 infusions day before yesterday. I don't consider myself halfway through though until two weeks from now, after you start getting your body back. Based on my SE's, the MO reduced the amount of Taxol. My bloodwork showed my counts were low but not below the minimum, so that's okay. I mean, I'd rather they were a bit more normal, but it's to be expected at this point, yes?
I asked the MO if at some point they do another batch of scans to make sure I'm clean and he said no, they just look for red flags like bloodwork, lumps or pain. I'm not sure I feel comfortable but on the other hand I can always seek a second opinion in the future. Or do they do bloodwork more often or something? I suppose it's my trust issues applied to my physical state instead of my emotional one.
How vigilant are y'all plannng on being about your health in the future or will you just do 'routine checkups and maintenance'?
-
Count me in for the new thread!!!
Circumstances + situations change constantly. Christ will forever be unchangeable!
Everything thing I experience is measured against Christ and MUST bow down to the name of Jesus whose name is above very name (including cancer + chemo) in heaven, on earth + under the earth!
-
I just posted to the new thread and think they will accept me in their group. I will be leaving this one as soon as they do.
Thanks to everyone who helped me through the initial stage of my TNBC. I will be forever grateful for the insight I gained from you. No hard feelings, just don't want to make waves.

Sharon please keep in touch with me by PM if you ever come to Florida. I would love to meet you. Best of luck to you in your journey.
-
Oh Sharon I hope you still come to visit! I'd miss seeing you here.
I am glad to see all the women sticking around. I am still not up to making "notes" to make comments on all said but am taking home lots of support from you all.
Sounds like this is chemo week for a lot of you. Keeping you in my prayers.
I think I saw it mentioned that some of you were dealing with watery eyes...or stinging eyes. Anyone left here still dealing with that. All of a sudden last night my eyes started. Do you have any suggestions to deal with this?
