Breast Tumor Pain

I found a lump (6 oclock position) about a month ago. Took action immediately, saw PCP, got mammo, ultrasound, saw sugeon, had needle biopsy, MRI, xray, etc.

IDC. HER2 +

Surgery is sceduled for this Thursday 8.29.

From the day after finding the mass I have had breast pain. It started out as the lump feeling tender, then a few days of all over achiness with nipple sensitivity, much like that feeling from the younger hormone days. The last 2 weeks I have stinging shooting pains, right up from the tumor.

I guess this isn't common but not unheard of. I also have read that many women who complained of pain like this were told (wrongly) that BC isn't painful, that it is likely a cyst.

Just wondering how many of you had this pain? Thanks!

I didn't have that pain, but my tumor was in the 11 o'clock position and was very close to the skin, so perhaps the location makes a difference. Is it possible that some of the pain might be the result of the biopsy? I was given special ice packs (etc) post-biopsy, so I bet that means some patients have pain, swelling, etc. You could always call the office that did the biopsy and/or your breast surgeon for advice, but since your surgery is scheduled for this week, I'm not sure what they will suggest. It's good you had the B-MRI so your surgeon has the complete picture. (i.e. there's nothing surprising lurking in the area.) Sending you best wishes on a successful surgery and healing period.

I discovered my lump due to overall pain and tenderness in my breast....along with nipple discharge that lasted for 2 days and then went away. My breast was so tender that the mammo, ultrasound and biopsy were very painful! I asked the Dr why the pain? And she said she didn't know and just thought it was something seperate from my bc. I, however, think it was my breast's reaction to the BC...it knew something was up! Once I had surgery (lumpectomy-April 25th), the overall tenderness went away - but since then I've had some minor shooting pains and burning sensations in both breasts. The onc said it was from surgery - where the tissues are healing and from chemo which tends to make you "sore" in your weak spots. It comes and goes but is pretty minor at this point.

I have two friends with bc that were first alerted to their lumps by pain in their breast - so it does happen.

My lump was sore when I found it and continued to be sore during treatment. It is certainly not uncommon for masses to be painful althought literature suggests otherwise.

My mass hurts sometimes as well.  It's always tender in that area but on other days it's like a shooting pain.  Drives me nuts.  I haven't had any treatments just the biopsy.  It didn't get better or worse after the biopsy.

Sucks.  I certainly don't need the reminder that it's still in me!!!

    Hi,

I have a mass behind my nipple seen on pet-ct. I have hade breast cramp, shooting stabbing pain for a long time. before anything was seen. The rock hard lump is 4 cm acc to my journal. The pain made me fight with dense breasts until the mass was seen
