period returning months after finished chemo

Options

I am 47 yrs old, & had fairly normal periods before my breast cancer diagnosis followed by chemo. I only had one period after starting chemo. Now, after being finished with chemo for 4 months, my period has returned with a vengeance! It is a very heavy flow with alot of cramping and going on for 8 days like that now. I was taking arimidex until my period came back. My oncologist changed it to tamoxifen a couple days ago and told me that it will eventually put me back into menopause. I have a question for those taking tamoxifen. Has it stopped your periods? I cannot take this heavy painful period. I will ask for a hysterectomy if I have to. Thank you so much.

My periods have not returned since I completed Chemo over a year ago. I am currently on tamoxifen. My onc told me my period could come back at any time. I thought he told me that tamoxifen does not stop you from getting your period. It's the chemo that puts you into menopause and when a women is in her 40s and was premenopausal prior to chemo, it's very common for periods to return. Good luck. It sounds horrible.
