I just can't help but wonder because I thought people always lost weight with chemo until it became up close and personal...now I know some people gain weight.  So if you don't mind sharing...did you gain or lose weight with chemo treatments?

I gained 40 pounds. After working so hard to loose weight for 3 1/2 years, I gained it all back on chemo. Cancer sucks.

I neither gained nor lost weight on chemo. Must say I was hoping to lose weight.

I finished chemo 7/19 and lost 20 lbs. My MO threatened to stop chemo if I continued losing as I wasn't overweight to begin with. I know many others who gained weight.

I've lost 10 pounds so far and still have 5 treatments to go. Pretty nauseous and have to force myself to eat right now. Of course I could stand to lose a lot more. Laughing

I lost 8lbs the first week,by the time it was done,I came out the same weight as I started. My activity level was pretty much nil during chemo so thankful I didn't weigh more at the end:))

I had the same symptoms when I was pregnant. The only thing that would stop the nausea was food, so I ate. ALL THE TIME!

When I was diagnosed last Oct and all the way through chemo, a lumpectomy and rads which ended in July, I never varied by even one pound.  It became a standing joke at the cancer center every time I walked in to be weighed for this or that.

I hear you Roula that is what got me asking the question because I find myself eating a bite to prevent nausea because on 3rd day I got a small taste of how bad that could be.  The medication I was given was like WOW so strong it knocked me on my feet. So then I tried to just take half and that would still make me talk slow per my friend.  Thanks for making me think...I will ask the DR if their is something less strong that would work because it is annoying to eat when it doesn't even taste good.  Thanks for all your input...to everyone!

I lost about 14 pounds because taxotere exacerbated already existing stomach issues. Unfortunately I gained it back once the stomach problems cleared up.

I lost 25 lbs during chemo and rads, and continue to lose 6 lbs a month during herceptin only treatment. Taste has recently returned so this downward trend may start changing soon.

My weight stayed exactly the same all through chemo and rads, but I've already gained 10 pounds after just 3 months on tamoxifen.  Grrr!

Is everyone pretty much different or do the taste buds stay gone all during chemo?  Drinking is really becoming a challenge for me.  Water is now beginging to taste like auto oil!  I brush my teeth all the time and use biotine.  Would baking soda and salt help more?  Please respond if you feel led to.  Thanks.

I wouldnt use salt lovewins, that might cause or make mouth sores worse. I lost 18pds from surgery, through ddac and now i'm on Taxol and i'm gaining some back. The ac made me sooo nausious for about 5 days and i ate very little. The taxol doesn't give me nausia but serious muscle and joint pain,so i have to eat something to take the pain meds.Angela

lovewins - drinking is a real challenge for me too. I finally gave up on everything but hot tea and all kinds of soup for meals for the first two weeks after chemo. I make a big batch once a week and then have it for lunch every day. Anything from chicken noodle (with extra chicken for the protein) to beef vegetable to corn & chicken chowder and chili. I just don't have enough saliva to eat sandwiches or dryish foods. They just stick going down my throat. Even ice cream doesn't feel wet enough. Hope this helps you.

Lovewins, my taste buds improved by ten days after each chemo but certain things still didn't taste good to me (lemon for instance.) I found brushing my tongue daily with a soft brush helped tremendously. Biotene gum helped with the metallic taste.

My taste buds changed drastically. The only thing that tasted the same to me was coffee and Oreo cookies. Of course that did not deter me from eating everything within arms reach :-)

I lost about 15 pounds that needed to come off during chemo.  Regained a bit when I trashed my ankle cycling.  Am now where I was at the end of chemo.

I want to lose about 5-7 more, but more than happy to have everything in balance.  I think the remainder will come off slowly as am about 5 pounds less than this time last year.

I train for, and then do, endurance events to keep the weight off.  Works big time.  I also now jog 5k 2-3 times a week.

Doing a 60 mile hilly cycling event on Sunday.  BTW - now stronger than way than any time in my entire life. - Claire

Stayed the same...I .would probably have gained except for the fact that chocolate tasted like chalk!

Both my taste-buds and sense of smell were off. The only lotion I could stand to use had a coconut smell. I couldn't stand vegetables, fruit & meat both were really iffy...I could gag them down in small doses. I ate lots of mashed potatoes, and oddly enough I craved Mexican food, the hotter and spicier they were, the better they tasted. Weird.

For extra fluids, maybe try Popsicles.

I had a reaction to the steroids which led to a horrible reaction from Taxotere. So I ended up losing over 40 pounds. This year I developed an infection N one of my implants and lost more. Have gained about 5 pounds back at this time.

I kept gaining and gaining. I had thrush and my mouth was so sore. I loved to drink chocolate milk because it soothed my mouth. I would limit myself to 1 glass a day to try to combat the weight gain. Ice cream was also soothing. Wasn't supposed to lose any weight during radiation but as soon as I finished I watched everything I ate and lost 50 pounds.

I gained about 20 pounds. I've lost 15 of that, very slowly, through exercise and eating better. Hope to lose the last 5 pounds by Thanksgiving (and then probably regain it all that night Laughing).

I gained 15 pounds during Taxol.  I tried really hard not to though.  I watched what I ate and I did a little exercise everyday. It was like my body just had its own plans and nothing I did could change it.  It was such a bummer!

I lost weight with AC I was sooo sick but 3 weeks into taxol and Im back at regular weight. Im going to concentrate on feeling good and eating healthy.....weight gain or loss will have to get fixed later :) For sore mouth I used one quart water, 1 tsp baking soda, 1tsp salt to rinse several times a day!!

I stayed at a steady weight during AC and then gained about 10 lbs during Taxol due to the steroids and bone / muscle pain that kept me from exercising.  I then gained another 10 lbs during surgery and rads because I was so exhausted and comfort eating :-)  I am happy to say that one year later I have lost those 20 lbs, and now hope to lose another 10 of their friends!

I remember being super concerned about weight gain when I started chemo, but honestly once I was in treatment it was the furthest thing from my mind.  Try to focus on feeling as good as you can, and worry about any weight issues after your treatment.  It's stressful enough without also trying to manage weight!

I still have two treatments of ACT but at my last appointment my Dr commented on my weight loss and told me to eat more. I am a very large woman and I didn't think a few pounds was that big of a deal. But I had been having severe diarrhea and some dizziness probably from dehydration to the point I have had to stop exercising. I was walking 3.5miles 4-5 times a week. I haven't walked much this month and have really pigged out so I'm betting I gained weight when I go see her tomorrow. Then she'll be after me to exercise and watch what I'm eating. But I want to say that I feel like I've aged ten years this past month. Between reduced exercise and a respiratory infection I have loss a lot of physical strength and endurance. This past month I feel and look like I have cancer. You know what I mean?

I basically stayed the same, but I noticed that the day I was given the infusion I was super hungry. I asked one nurse and she told me it was the steroids I was given  with the A/C that made me so hungry. I've gained some weight on Tamoxifen though, which I'm trying to put off.
