IDC with Ovarian Cyst-perimenopausal

I went to my Gyno 1 month ago for my annual to discuss treatments for hot flashes, what I got in return was a diagnosis of IDC. I have had 7 stereotactic biopsies, a lumpectomy and SNB (2 nodes removed)with gamma, dye and guide wire, a week later I had to have a re-excision due to close margins. Went back to surgeon today and was told that the pathology report from the reexcision showed some DCIS but the margins were clean and radiation would zap the DCIS. Now treatment has been postponed because I have an ovarian cyst which blood tests are negative for Cancer, but they want me to have a bilateral oopherectomy to reduce chance of ovarian cancer and allow me to take amiridex instead of tamoxifen. The fact that another type of stray cancer showed in an area with clean margins alarms me....could it be somewhere else also? And if so, will the radiation indeed "zap" it? Have any of you had the ovarian issue also, and what did you do about it? Also, how long can I afford to wait to commence treatment? One other thing, i am having numbness in my affected arm pit and the surgeon says that is normal and will go away in time, will it?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

    KR13,

I have a large ovarian cyst (6cm) I am post-menopausal and on letrozole. I have had this cyst well over 18 months and was advised by gynae 1 to leave it to self-resolve. It hasn't. At this point my CA125 score was on the low side. Being post men, cysts are more of an 'issue'. In pre-men they are very very common.

Following my bc dx, I went to another gynae who advised 'we always get these out'. I have had a MRI to get a better look at it, but apparently it is 'full of blood' so the scan is hard to read. I have had another CA125 and I do not have the results yet, but I am waiting for an op to have an bilateral oophrectomy, so I am assuming there is no alarm as I am on the waiting list (The British NHS).

My abdo MRI showed NED for cancer, I had a bone scan a little before this and that too was NED.  I am having huge 'tummy' issues, too but that is another matter! I hope this reassures you as to spread.

I have had an MX and experience numbness, which a year down the line is little improved. It is an odd sensation, but in the great scheme of things does not greatly bother me. I do not expect it to resolve.

    I hope this helps

I was 45 when dx with BC and had a cyst on my ovary. It was found a few months after my dx as I was having horrible pain with ovulation when I went of the birth control pills due to my dx.  I kind of forgot about the cyst with all of my BC things to deal with (BMX with reconstruction and chemo).  I never had another period after starting chemo.  After chemo I went on tamoxifen.  When I changed Gyno's when we moved out of state and she found the cyst again.  It had gotten slightly larger so I went back after 8 weeks to see if the cyst had resolved.  It did not and it was slightly larger.  She suggested an oopharectomy for me.  I talked it over with my MO and he agreed.  My gyno was sure it was just a cyst but she said since I was no longer having periods it would probably not resolve.  I had the surgery about 6 months ago.  It was easy recovery.  Unfortunately I cannot change to an AI because they did a baseline dexa scan on me and I have very bad osteopenia.   The AI would only make it worse so I am probably going to have to stay on tamoxifen.
