Lingering mouth issues?

I've been done with chemo since July of 2011, but my mouth has never fully recovered.  I had the most horrendous case of mouth sores towards the end of my treatment with Taxotere (first half was AC), and my mouth has never felt the same.

I've been to every doctor I have, the most recent being a new ENT yesterday who said my salivary glands were most likely burned out.  She said they usually recover, but apparently not mine.

I've also developed food allergies, the most concerning to wheat and certain fresh fruits and veggies.  I had no problems with allergies prior to chemo.

Anyone have lingering mouth issues like mine?

I think the mouth issues will linger for a very long time. Severe dry mouth can be a result. Try Biotene products and stay away from mouth rinses with alcohol. Also if you are suffering from dry mouth there is a product called oramoist that you can adhere to the roof of your mouth and will assist in moisturizing your mouth for 2 hrs or so. They sell it in the drugs stores. A fluoride rinse may also help since you may be more suceptable to cavities.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately I'm allergic to wheat, and biotene products strangely have wheat in them

Burley, I have celiac and just checked Biotene mouth wash label - none of those ingredients are gluten. Someone has misinformed you that it contains wheat.

I finished chemo the end of January 2009,Herceptin September 2009 and my gums still bleed.Never did before. No signs of gum disease, blood counts are fine.I had severe erosive gastritis during chemo and my stomach has never recovered.I also had seasonal allergies, could deal with them before, but now they are debilitating. My friends say it is because I am getting older..yet none of them have these problems.I just turned 60 and before cancer I looked ten years younger than my age..now I feel like I look ten years older. The thing that bothers me is once you are finished with chemo, you are kind of thrown to the curb, there is no follow up for these lingering side effects..
