Carla,
I hope a second opinion clarifies things for you.
Ugh!
Lorrie, enjoy that tea time. Take lots of pics "topless" or not!
My "fat dress" fits, so all is good in Oz. for the Christening tomorrow. i will have to "suck it in " to look good...well, as good as one can with no eye lashes, no hair....lol. One of my buffs sort of goes with the dress...so that's what I will wear. I just can't bring myself to wear the wigs (unless the pink/white one, I like that one!) I actually attempted to "do my hair" today to see if I could pass....I passed for a man in drag. Lol
I HAVE A SURGERY DATE! emailed and called repeatedly today.
Got a late email back for October 2nd. Oh boy, looking at my calendar and all the things I will be missing because of this....talking myself off the ledge. This surgery is scheduled for New Orleans. I'm debating to email the NY doctor and tell them I am scheduled for surgery elsewhere and see if they get their shit together....then again, I think I like the professionalism of the New Orleans place. I forsee a lot of second guessing!
Pat -
Carla, My radiologist is doing 3 fields; right breast, Axillary Lymph Node Dissection and Supraclavicular lymph nodes. The Radiologist is associated with the Breast Cancer and recommended by my MO who agrees with the treatment plan. The only surprise for me was the Supraclavicular lymph nodes. I see my PS on the 12th and I'll ask him what he thinks.
Pat, Glad the dress fits :-) Enjoy the special day.
Deb, I thought I was having a rough 2013. Nothing like what your family is dealing with. You and your family sound strong and supportative which will help everyone get through the year. I hope you and your DH are able to enjoy your wedding anniversary.

Third night in a row up with a unproductive cough. Waaaah!
My 14 year old has two friends over for a sleepover. I think it should be called an all nighter.
It's 3:30am! Getting up at 8:00 for the Christening...what was I thinking?! Lol
So now I am up listening to 14 year olds "whisper", hacking, and thinking about the people I need to schedule to come help out while we are away for my surgery.
I am also thinking of hiring someone to paint my living room while I am gone. Hubby wanted to do it when the kids to back to school. I think my priority is getting this pig Stye in order so I won't be mortified for those living here while we are away for surgery! Damn I have never hired a painter, it's always been my job, til I tried teaching the husband...and one room one gallon became 2 gallons! Lol
Well the good news is no Jury Duty on Monday...the first day of school here...but based on the numbers looks like I will be there Tuesday. Naturally, because there will be "umpteen" interruptions to keep me from getting this house in order! The story of my life!
Okay, cough is calming, and I those lovely boys are getting quieter. I should make a video of them in when I wake them in the am!
I'm going to sleep on the couch and see if it helps this cough any.
Pat -
Robin my radiation is to be same as yours but on left side. I go on 16th for simulation and then will start the following week.
Patty I used to love the all night sleepovers. Loved listening to kids whispering and giggling. Of course not so sure I would like it before a christening and while being sick. Hope you get a little shut eye before the big event.
This is my weekend to work which is a good thing. Keeps me occupied while waiting for appt. Monday. Out for crabs and beer last night so tired and will come home from work and conk out.
Lisa -
Hi Ladies,
Two things,
I met with my RO last week for tattoos and simulation. She mentioned that a lot of women will have a wave of chemo SE's 2 to 3 months after they finish chemo. Mainly fatigue, aches and pains. She said it freaks them out thinking they are having a re-occurance but it's actually just a delayed reaction to the chemo....and it will go away. Now, my MO never mentioned this! I'm glad the RO did so I'll know what's happening if it does. Just wanted to give you the heads up on the possibility of this happening.
Second thing - Yesterday I walked around Ikea wearing ballet flats. After 30 to 40 minutes my feet started to hurt. When I looked down they both were blown up....as in very swollen! I've had some slight ankle swelling during treatment but nothing like this! Luckily, they returned to normal after a few hours once I put them up while watching TV. Makes me nervous to start my excerise routine of walking and running. Anyone else have this problem?
Annie
-
Annie,
I did not have the same chemo as you. I've walked all over Florida theme larks last week for countless hours and did not have swelling problems. (Mostly wearing socks and walking sneakers). I don't know what to say about the swelling.
Your RO is dead on about side effects....someone on one of the boards had said for each week of treatment =a week of recovery. So I had 12 weeks of treatment...that should put me about October 8th to be feeling way better, though I am feeling mostly pretty good! (8 weeks post last chemo infusion)
Pat -
Robin and Lisa- Same areas for me. Just didn't know the mefical terms for the. Did either of you have clear margins? I'm trying to do a little detective work. I want to feel confident that it is necessary to have the breast radiated.
Annie- Thanks for the heads up re the delayed reactions of chemo. Never had any swelling of my feet. But I too had a different regiment.
Pat - How did the christening go? Hopen your cough etc is getting better.
Carla -
Thanks Annie fornthe heads up on random SEs for a bit... I wonder if it's the ROs way of saying that it's NOT rads making us feel yucky... Haha.
I'm doing much Better than the last couple of days. Stayed home again yesterday from work and when my youngest asked why I just told her it was "leftovers from chemo" she says "still?".... Haha it's only been 2 weeks since last chemo... Ah well.... Kids!
Tea at The Heathman Hotel was actually a lot of fun today... We all dressed up and tried not to act like bumpkins in public... It was very elegant.... On our way back to the parking garage, there was a cracked out girl laying in the middle of the sidewalk with her bike. I had to check to make sure she was breathing.....We had to step over the bike to get through the doors & my poor granddaughter thought she was dead. We just told her that the girl was tired and taking a nap. So sad! She couldn't have been 20 years oldI'm glad we don't live in Portland and see this everyday.
I havent had swelling of the feet either, but I'm still not on my feet yet for very long periods of time. -
Christening was great. My niece only cried for a few parts, in which case I handed her right back to Momma! Lol
This event meant a lot to me. My SIL waited til I knew my treatment plan and worked around it. I kept insisting she do it when she wanted to and she insisted to wait. I am so glad she did. That little sack of potatoes weighed A LOT! Lol. On one of my weak SE days I wouldn't have been able to hold her for two minutes let alone 20!
I am exhausted! And cranky. So I am trying to not speak to the family. In fact, I just might go to bed soon.
I've woken up every night for the last 3-4 nights with a cough that is awful and doesn't stop. I coughed so much two nights ago I was gagging. I pray this doesn't happen tonight.
Got my daughters backpack in order tonight...thankfully she didn't mind some used items...tomorrow I will tackle my boys. I have a bin of sale items in my garage which I add to each year. I should have most of what they need, if not there is my "supply cabinet" of used items. I'm too tired to shop (did I just say that!) and I'm out of time!
Pat -
Pat,
You did amazing! I am in awe of your...well, it's what we do..? -
Carla I questioned why need for radiation since I had mastectomy. Mo gave me detailed explanation none of which I can remember at moment but I do know from my research it is pretty standard for my stage 3 cancer.
Pat I hope that cough gets better soon. The interrupted sleep is so hard to recover from which certainly adds to crankiness. Just ask my family lol. Christenings are such happy events. Glad your sil waited so you could enjoy.
Gully seems we haven't heard from you in a while. Surgery soon right? How are you doing?
Lisa -
Hello Everyone,
Sorry its been a while since my last post. Surgery for exchange went well. It was much easier than the BMX but it did take me down for about a week. I think its the anesthesia. And again I cannot lift, push, or pull much until I get the all clear in three weeks.
On the bright side, My PS said my results look like "a textbook" outcome he was really pleased with himself. The girls look good, I was worried at first, right after surgery the implants looked much smaller than I thought and sort of flat. Its been 10 days now, and they continue to "fluff", not sure how. I did definitely get an upgrade! The new girls are symmetrical and a full B pushing C, and feel so much better than those stupid TE's.
Pat: too funny about the supply cabinet- My oldest went to college last year, when she cleaned her room we saved all the school suppies, pencils, pens, Highlighters, folders, squissy book covers, etc. When my boys need something for school this year they just bo through there sisters loot. They dont mind at all. I think they like the fact they can take a little of their sister to HS with them. (She was a really good student) Maybe some study skills will rub off on them...LOL
I too have been getting ready to head back to school. I have been off since March. I am a bit nervous taking on another 80-90 HS students again. But its my job....my goal is to keep stress levels down. We will see. I too have been shopping since the new girls do not fit into my old blouses! Thank goodness I cant wear bras yet, I dont have any that fit!
My next big decision is that I will go back to work lidless! My hair is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch only....so I still look pretty bald for a woman, still lool like a cancer patient or maybe a Drag queen when dressed in my casual business attire. Make up , earrings, not much hair. I hope I dont scare my students! I am just fed up with the wig, buff, hat thing......trying to mentally take a step to move on with life. My hair will grow when it grows.
Still cant sleep, dont know why......anyone else?
-
Hey Gully, glad to hear you are happy with your results!! How did you feel two days post op? Hubby has a Taylor Swift concert on Friday so he'll be gone from about 4am - 2am and that's 2 days after surgery. Will I be able to get the kids fed etc? Do I need to enlist some help?? I'm only have one implant but I'm having reconstruction on the right side too...I'm worried that I won't be able to cope with them alone....I am waiting to go "topless" to work too - my head is almost covered by hair now but it's all about 1/2 inch long!!
Who was it who mentioned swelling feet? My feet were swollen yesterday. I don't know if it was the heat or what. They hurt quite a bit. I had a busy day - went to my son's soccer game at 10am, then straight to the gym to "water walk" for an hour, then home, quick shower and then to my son's Football Game at 2:30 - it was at the game that I noticed the swelling and really had the urge to "put my feet up" It was hotter than heck though right in the son
Pat - so glad the christioning went well and you could fit into your dress. I guess your kids are late back to school because of the Jewish holidays right? I wish we got the Jewish holidays off here - no chance living in the Bible Belt!!
Lori - your tea sounded lovely!!!
Nothing planned today except for FOOTBALL! Go Jets!
-
Lorrie,
I meant to comment on your outing. I could just imagine having to explain that to a little girl, good job. Sounds like NY in the 80's. as the kids get older it is a teachable moment.i pray my kids don't go that route.
Gully, YEAH! textbook! Awesome! Must be a huge relief.i hear you about losing the head coverings,,,it really is annoying. Funny you say drag because that's how I feel. I thought it was my height that added to that feeling. Well I guess it doesn't help that I am the spitting image of my dad! Lol. Wishing you all the best when you go back to school. Too bad we can't all just pull on our hair and it lengthens,,.like those dolls from years ago...whatever they were called.
Kate, I think our area of the country is probably the only one that gives off for the Jewish Holidays. Makes for some nice breaks.
I have a friend who has gotten all into the aqua aerobics. She is 50, says it is all "old ladies" in the class but she loves it. She has dropped about 50 lbs in 6 months. Says it is from that and limiting the junk food. So what is water walk? Similar? I'm not getting the swollen feet thing...seems there are a bunch of SE no one told us about!
Well finally slept through the night...still feeling foggy.i don't think getting out of bed at 9:00am is going to help tomorrow when the kids go back to school. Boy are we all in for a rude awakening tomorrow! My HS guy has to be on the bus at 7:00, next is elementary at 8:00 and then Middle school 9:00. Should be a "fun" school year. I already hear the fights of who is waking everyone up and DH yelling out from bed "shut up" lol....life is sweet!
Off to play catch up on the wash (it does multiply some how!)
Pat -
Kate, I felt pretty sluggush 2 days after surgery. They tell you that some of the anethesia affects do not wear off right away. The first day all I wanted to do is sleep! Keep in mind you will be on restriction as far as how much you can lift. My PS said no more than 1 pound. You will need to rest. Maybe some help would be a good idea, just in case.
Pat: So funny you said you look like your Dad. I never thought I looked at all like my brother , wrong...I see him when I look in the mirror now LOL....Height is definitely not my problem...I am only a little over 5'2" So glad you have managed to sleep through the night...wish I could. Are you taking any meds? How is the Tamoxifen treating you? My night sweats are awful!!!!
-
I read a thread amour a couple different brands of Tamoxifen .... The mylon (I'll have to double check for the correct spelling) brand is suppose to give fewer hot flashes, but I read that it's hard to find a pharmacy that carries it.... I'll be checking with my Onc about it.
What have I done? I agreed to watch my little granddaughters today until after our Sunday family dinner tonight (5 weeks & 4) then my 4 month old grandson overnight while my other daughter works night shift..... Lol.... I'm gonna have fun, but hope it doesn't set me back. I'm hoping for a 40 hour week this week.
Have my rads simulation on Thursday as well..... I'm nervous about starting that, but I've heard that it should be easier than chemo was!
I'm glad to hear surgeries are going well.... -
Gully,
I usually have the air conditioner on. Still kick the covers off, then pull them on later. This was going on before Tamoxifen...so I guess I was pre menopausal or peri menopausal or whatever you want to call it. Usually was waking up a few times a night, but was able to get back to sleep fairly easily. (I think after removing a blanket or putting it back on).
Don't think the Tamoxifen has affected my sleep that much as compared to the recent past, so for those who were already experiencing some night symptoms might seem the same?
I've never really had those super hot flashes people talk about, but I AM usually hotter than most people (unfortunately not meant in the "sexy" way lol). I have always been one to wear a short sleeve shirt through winter, maybe with a super light jacket and if it was close to freezing out I would put on a coat. I like to wear my shorts or capris into November. Putting me in a sweater is like putting me in a sweat box!
I have been really tired lately, so don't know if it is a SE of tamoxifen or if it this "thing" I am getting over. I guess I will know within the week?
Oh, Gully, I think it would be hysterical if you took pics of yourself "as your brother" and put him in some vicarious situations! Wishing my dad were here to do that too, he would be the first to crack up at it.
Pat -
So I am bored and started reading "active topics" on these boards.
Here is a link from .stage IV boards.
http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/8/topic/810556?page=2#idx_31
It is in regards to using what you have instead of waiting for "the guests", "company" etc.
My parents must have learned this from someone years ago. They've been eating off "the good china" for years. (After they both retired). Even served the grand kids on it.
Me, I never thought much about it, but will be. (However I don't own good china! Lol)
Anyhow, will be clearing out closets and purging...it is all going to be used or donated. No more "holding on because". I think I need one of those organization TV shows here....keep, donate, sell....
Maybe I can finally get my house in order? Last time I thought that was going to happen was when I was diagnosed with BC! And the time prior to that was when my mother borke her back and sucked four months of my life out of me! Maybe I shouldn't even bother?
Pat -
Gully so glad that all went well with your implants. Cannot wait to be able to do the exchange. Am really leaning to prophylactic mx on right side if new lump is nothing. Wish I had thought to do that from the beginning but Dr assured me it made no difference in my prognosis. I think hs kids will find you cool with your hair. I know my sons friends like to compare their hair to mine. Love making jokes about it. They are just one year removed from high school.
Patty I think it was a chrissy doll that hair that grew. I too wear my shorts and capris thru November if not longer. I was in perimenopause and now hot flashes wake me up and ac constantly running. Dh always cold due to blood thinners. We are the classic couple fighting over thermostat. But in my world cancer trumps blood thinners lol.
One day I will have energy to purge my house. Maybe even clean off dining room table so we could use the good china.
Lisa -
Lisa, I would just settle for a cleaned off dining room table!
As for who wins with the thermostat, my attitude is my husband can always put on a blanket....
Cleaned out a drawer in my dresser. Found two new bathing suits , with tags on,,,sending to a friend who has recently lost weight in her aqua aerobics...better they get used than to continue to wait for me to fit them!
Daughter just tried on her "back to school outfit"...no minute like last minute! A hole in the pants AND paint on them! So we went through her drawers and got rid of old things. Her cousins get the hand me downs, some are worn only once. Sigh.
All the kids are set to go.
Darling daughter has 1/2 day...so I guess I will put off the sneak attack in her room. So much to do, so little time! Lol
Pat -
Lorrie-teatime sounds like it was delightful. I remember years and years ago going to tea at a hotel in Victoria Canada. Loved it. It was the first time I ever had tea and crumpets. Good come back to your granddaughter. Never heard about the different brands of tamoxifen. Good information to know. Thx.
Pat-A memorable christening. Excellent. I wish you luck with your energy level and your children's school schedule. I'm yired just thinking about it.
Gully- Congrats on the "textbook" job your PS did. Finally something
noticeably good for pain endured. 80 to 90 high schoolers. Wow. Thattoo exhausts me just thinking about it. Good luck on the new school year.
Gosh I am hoping before the rads start that I have the energy to purge items from my house and shed. Simplify, simplify, simplify.
My hubby already has hot flashes due to the pain pills he takes. Somehow we are going to have to get synchronized if I also get them after starting tamoxifen. It will be interesting to see if I do. Never got them when going through menopause. Onc said she is going to wait until I'm done with rads before starting me on tamoxifen. I'm glad. One thing at a time please.
Hope everyone has a good week.
Carla -
I have the hot flashes all night long and I know it's from chemo as I was having regular periods before. I haven't had a period since my 12 day one in May when I was on my last TCH treatment! I'm happy not to have it right now actually as I had my period the day I had my mastectomy and that added a whole new level of difficulty to the whole procedure!
Patty - I'm slowly feeling my energy return too. I had a super busy day on Saturday and I did feel it by the end of the day but it's slowly coming back.
My eye brows are completely gone now and my one eye feels "sticky" a lot of the time...I'm trying eye drops but they're not helping much...
Ladies - can we talk SEX???
I have not been intimate with my husband since I was diagnosed with BC back in March. I feel terrible but I couldn't possibly feel less sexy right now. I"m hoping that when I get my new boobs, perhaps I'll feel a bit more in the mood....But I feel like I am going to need some assistance because (TMI!!), the juices are not flowing down below! Argghhh.....poor guy - he will need a wheelbarrow to carry his balls around in soon!!!
Okay - if I can't discuss this with you lot then who can i??
-
Kate,
Today is the first day I get rid of all my kids onto the school bus.
So I know hubby will be looking for some action. Sigh. (Lol)
I am not feeling particularly attractive either....and given the "lack of juices" during the few times we tried previously I know I won't be comfortable. (Not that that matters , right!
There is a thread on these boards for this topic.
I searched "scream cream"...this is the end of the thread but you can scroll to page 1
http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/7/topic/69566?page=104#post_3694329
I have not looked into a prescription or where I would find it.
My breasts were an integral part of my sex life, it's just not the same for me....so if this cream really puts the scream back into it I should have already ordered it!
So know you aren't alone.
Pat -
On my lunch break...
Found this clip on Facebook from a friend. It really takes a lot to make me laugh out loud. This one had tears coming down my face I was laughing so hard. I was also coughing like the guy.
If the link doesn't work, cut and paste it...very well worth watching.
http://mycountry955.com/hilarious-voicemail-from-a-witness-to-traffic-accident-audio/
Pat -
I have had sex a few times since all of this started. My partner had no problem with just the one breast and bald head. Main reason I didn't want to have a double mastectomy is the nipple....too much pleasure comes from there......TMI? Anyway, juices flowing ok but when I have had the dryness problem I use one of the KY formulas and they work great!
Glad to hear surgeries are going ok and more are getting scheduled. I get another 100 cc's today and hoping to get an approximate of when I will be able to have the exchange and boob lift. I am SO lopsided now, one hanging to my belly button and the other super high. I think it looked better when I just had the one bood and nothing on the other side. At least this is just temporary.
Pat, I have had an annoying cough for about a week and mostly at night. So I have to suck on a Halls Breezers or something so I can try to get some sleep before my next hot flash. Yeah not looking forward to Tamoxifen. My Onc will start me on that three weeks after radiation is complete which we won't start until after I heal from the exchange surgery.
-
Teresa,
Enjoy the time between now, the exchange and then the radiation, and finally the tamoxifen. This sh$t doesn't seem like it will ever end!
I should have thought of a halls breeders or something....I don't get that type of cough often enough to think of it!
Never too much TMI on these boards, how are we all supposed to learn? (Well, you know what I mean)
Up at 6:00 am to shadow my HS guy. One problem with the gas jetsam he was trying to light it....he didn't know where I keep the candle lighterfor when my lovely stove acts up so that is now addressed. I told him he needs to work on cleaning up after he is all done. Trying to "whip him into shape" for when my MIL will be here with the kids while I am away for surgery. 3 "shifts" of washing dishes isn't going to work for a woman who lets things sit "til she gets to it". I shudder thinking I am getting the house in shape so I can come home to find it in 100% disarray! Well, teaching my oldest the ropes will be beneficial for her, hopefully he will carry on when I am all better!
Pulled apart kitchen cabinets and drawers today. Did all the uppers. (If you saw my small kitchen you wouldn't be impressed). Actually, just realized I didn't do them all...I did not touch the spice cabinet and all the "stuff" in there. Oh well, it's a start. I also did a bathroom drawer and my boys underwear drawer and shirt drawers (shhh, don't tell them).
Hubby is still working on faxing something for our medical insurance....it's only been 3 hours...I'm thinking it will take him a few more. Perhaps I should go and remove his iPhone and iPad. Just like a teenager, until the work is done.
Here's to a productive day. I think I have jury duty tomorrow!
Pat -
IT IS ONLY A CYST! Nothing to be done unless it causes me pain.
No sex going on in my house either. Just not interested.
Patty sounds like you were quite busy today. Good for you. Waiting for dh to complain about my lack of motivation. I have always wanted to get jury duty but never called.
Teresa and Patty. Dry cough was one of my symptoms from gerd. Might be worth looking into if cough goes on to long.
Mo gave me effexor for hot flashes. Have only been on 3 days so not sure if working yet. If I get no relief at low dose I can double it. Fingers crossed it works so I can get some decent sleep.
Kobrian hope you're ultrasound goes well Wednesday. I will be thinking of you.
Lisa -
GREAT NEWS Lisa!!!!!
I'm currently sitting in my plastic surgeons office because my incision yet again opened up and I need a few stitches and possibly another round of antibiotics...
UGH!
Congrats on your surgery Gully! Cannot wait for that day!!
Have a great day ladies! -
Lisa, glad it is only a cyst...what a relief!
Will try to remember about the GERD, just what I need!
I won't comment about jury duty...don't want to jinx myself (or did I just jinx myself?)
I was wondering about those hot flashes, does it mean we are burning more calories and losing weight? (Trying to find a bright side!). Hope the Effexor gives you the relief you need.
Just lightly mentioned to my hubby that there is work to be done...apparently faxing a set of papers qualifies as a full days work in his book. So he said he plans to work in the garage "before it gets too cold"...so I gently reminded him that his mothers is coming to LIVE HERE for 10 days while I get my surgery....if she will be sleeping in my bedroom than THAT ROOM NEEDS TO BE CLEANED! My garage is the last place most people see....I would like to be able to have visitors drop in, unexpectedly, and not cringe when they walk in my front door.....anyone have a workaholic they want to rent out to me?
Pat -
Thank you Patty and Kobrien.
Kobrien hope all goes well at ps office. Sorry to hear of incision problems.
Patty I would think most people wouldn't want retired policewoman on jury.
Lisa
