-
Edie61,
I am so sorry. While I remember how scary the initial stage was, please know you are not alone. If you feel up to it, we would love to meet you at our monthly lunch this Saturday. Regardless, we are here for you so please PM me or reach out with any questions...hugs
««« Lunch Saturday at noon at Coastal Flats in Fairfax»»»» -
Do any of you know of someone in Northern Virginia that you can recommend for manual lymphatic drainage?
-
mary, my wife was very impressed with the lymphodemia center at Fairfax Hospital, she went there for an initial evaluation after her mastectomy but fortunately hasn't required any follow-on treatment.
-
Edie61...I am just 2 months into this and I know how scary and confusing it can all be. Try not to read too much...I had myself so worked up and stressed and it didn't serve me well. The ladies on these boards are lifelines...and try to be positive. There are such incredible drs in our area. I've had my surgery and will see my oncologist tomorrow. Not one step has been as horrible as I had it made out to be in my mind before hand (and I've had complications and can still say that) so just know it will be ok.
-
Hi ladies I would love to join you for lunch on Saturday.
-
Would love to meet you Car67.... Looking forward to seeing everyone Saturday.
-
I think you have me on the list, but if not, I'm coming!
-
imatthew--can you tell me if the lymphedema services at Fairfax Hospital are part of physical therapy? I'm trying to figure out where to call. Thanks.
-
Thanks i hope it passes real fast too..The hardest time is at night like right now just can't go to sleep...
-
Yes looking all the different things up thats on the report gets me more updet then anything..so far all who i have been in contact with have been very nice ..I know I have a long road ahead of me and will do just fine..i will beat this just like my mom has for the last 12 years...
-
Odie16 - I am tentative for Saturday; finally clear to drive after my laparotomy. Soccer season starts, so I have to discuss w/DH. Is lunch at 12?
-
We are all set for lunch Saturday at NOON at Coastal Flats in Fairfax Corner.
-
Mary - I saw Audrey Philatre at INOVA Alexandria - she's great! I think you'd have to have a referral from your surgeon, though. Did you use an INOVA Breast Care Center surgeon? If so, you can call your nurse navigator and they'll set everything up for you.
If not, I think you'd need to call your surgeon's office and ask them to get a referral to Lymphedema PT/OT (some LE therapists are PTs and some are OTs). Hope this helps!
-
Just saw Dr Roberts my new MO love him. Gave me much better exam. He took his time with me. Never rushed
-
I called my surgeon who is not in Inova Breast Care specialists so guess what? She wants me to go somewhere else. Some group called the Jackson Clinic. We'll see.
-
Mary, you will have to let us know how the Jackson clinic is. Just looked it up and it looks good. I go to Fairfax Hospital rehab clinic. Theresa and Terry are Great!
-
It was so great to meet so many of you in person today. I am trying to remember everyone's names / faces and keep everything straight. I'm happy to make a list of everyone who was there today that I can either email or PM to people if you guys think that would be helpful.
If you're interested, just PM me with your name so I can make sure I get it all right when I compile it, then I can do a group email or group PM - whichever you guys prefer. -
I had such a fabulous time at lunch! Thank you so much for planning it! It was my first social outing since my surgeries so it was so nice to talk to folks other than my family! I appreciate all of the advice and information and while I've not started chemo quite yet I want to help anyone in anyway I can.
-
Thoroughly enjoyed the luncheon today and seeing so many of us. We missed you Judy but hope to see you next time.
Great idea Katherine. Thanks for volunteering to put the list together.
Already planning the next one and will be sure to arrange for one table to accommodate all of us.. Will post details on the next luncheon by the end of next week. -
I truly enjoyed meeting all of you at the lunch yesterday. You are all an amazing group of women. I am looking forward to the next lunch and our walk/run we will be doing. : )

Hi all, So sorry I missed Saturday! Hosting a bridal shower (for future Daughterinlaw) is a lot of work when you don't have a house cleaner etc to do the other stuff while you make the food and set Up!! My daughter commented that she never realized this was so much work. Hahaha
A work friend just got the news she had Idc and I told her about our group and that I would canvas you all to see who your BS and PS were so I can pass names along to her. I am sure she will join one of our lunches at some point.
Once she wraps her head around all of this was, I will show her where to find this thread and the BCO site in general.
Thank you in advance for your input. This is a great group and Thanks Odie for getting the lunches started and the thread moving
