several types breast cancers at once?
Interested in hearing from anyone that has a similar Dx I had prior to surgery ILC which was my primary cancer in right breast...but also had IDC and IDCS in left. Wondering what that does as far as prognosis?

I had PR positive in the left breast, and HR Positive in the right. during chemo, the right breast lump shrunk, while on the left, the cancer spread. I had a double mastectomy, then radiation. Within a year, mets was found in my spine that was actually there during my initial chemo, just didn't get noticed till later. My Onc said having in both didn't make a difference in treatments or prognosis, it was still the same as only one cancer. We are all so different though, this is just my story, and not necessarily any standard.
Good luck to you,
Linda

Hello! I have ILC as a primary and IDC as secondary diagnosis-both cells present, The tumor was ILC. My MO said mixed diagnosis prognosis same as single diagnosis. Their recommendation for my mix is to get MRIs vs mammos for future screenings.
Best of luck to you!! -
Hi,
My original diagnosis was IDC in my left breast - 3 tumors. I elected to have both breasts removed. I was told after surgery that nothing was found in my right breast - yea! However the pathology came back with that I have LCIS in my right breast, with 3 tumors also! Boo!
My oncologist said that my treatment would not be any different, but was very thankful that I had opted to have the bilateracl mastecomy. If I hadn't, who knows what would've happened? The chemotherapy may or may not have shrunk the previously unnoticed tumors in my right breast.
Please note that I did have an MRI done prior to the bilateral mastectomy and it did show an unusual area on my right breast, but everyone thought it was a misread.
My oncologist is using my case as an example to push for the use of MRIs instead of relying on mammograms. My oncologist says having two types of breast cancer at the same time is fairly rare & that my case will be reviewed by many other doctors just because of it's uniqueness - so I don't have to worry about second opinions!:-)
So, my treatment won't be/wasn't any different, but I'm not sure about the future. I can't imagine having two cancers is a good thing.... But then my prognosis hasn't been very good anyway, so I haven't really asked too many questions.
Good luck!
