Wednesday Weigh In

I'm not sure how much difference there is in the fat. The whole idea of the fat is to keep you from getting hungry right away. I have bought some Kind Bars to eat for lunch when the senior center is having something I don't like. They're about 220 calories, but are fairly high in fat because they're mostly nuts. I can eat one at lunch and not be hungry until dinner. I think it's important to eat often enough that you're not hungry. Have smaller meals and good snacks. I go haywire when I'm hungry and there's sugar around. And once I start eating sugar, I eat it the rest of the day.
-
Having sugar supposedly makes you crave more of it. Which is why I had a chocolate muffin for breakfast. My DH and DD are so disciplined, I usually have to eat most of what I bake.
I've bought a new recipe book called the Milk Diet (in German). I'm trying to get more calcium into both DH and DD.
-
Have you all heard of the Pink Ribbon Diet book. I love it. Check it out at your library or I have a library at out cancer center is where I first read it. The recepies are so easy to make and its a very simple eating plan to follow. its writen by a Registered Dietitian who did a study on diets and breast cancer for the Komen Foundation. Today I tried to put on my size 10 petite dress slacks from when I was working and I could barely get them on. Yikes! I'm on disability now and have been running around too long in yoga pants. I even went and bought some clothes in the next size up. I'm glad I tried on my old work clothes and can see now how much I've gained. it was like throwing cold water in my face. Got to start taking this seriously.
-
Elizabeth Taylor had one piece of advice: never wear elastic waist pants.
-
So happy to have reached one of my goals today. Since I am back down to my original Weight Watchers goal weight of 126 lbs and became a lifetime member in 2010, I went back there today after being away for 2 years. As long as I stay within two pounds of my goal weight and weigh in once a month I can go for free. We are on a really tight budget right now since DH's business has gone dry and my medical expenses, even with insurance, have hit us hard. Weight Watchers helps me with great accountability and I'm so glad to be able to go for free again.
This thread is a great support system too!
I feel that keeping to a healthy weight is one of the most imporant things I can do to reduce my risk of recurrence, and since I'll be on Arimidex for 5 years, I know it won't be easy. I've lost the same 20 lbs over and over again for years, but it's time for me to stop playing that game.
After going to WW, I went out to lunch with my dad at Cracker Barrel. They have a great new collection of lighter meals. I had pecan crusted catfish, steamed broccoli and fresh fruit. It was yummy and it felt so nice to leave a restaurant feeling satisfied, but not stuffed and guilty.
-
High Five Annie - I am so happy for you. My goal too is to get back to my WW weight so i can go back for free as I'm a lifetime member like you. I loved the support and education but like you also, finances are tight as I'm now on disability pay and single.
Happy dance for you! Keep encouraging us, I need it!
-
Congrats Annie. I agree with you. I wish more restaurants would cook reasonable meals. When I find one, I like to keep it in the rotation.
Heidihill you may be onto something with your chocolate muffin breakfast. I saw a recent study where people did better at weight loss eating their sweet at breakfast. For women breakfast was 600 calories and included the carb sweet treat. Then lunch was 500 calories and dinner 200 and both of those low carb. Exactly the opposite of how we eat in the states. -
Yay, Annie! Great freebie!
Wren, I just bought a pair of elastic waist pants online. That's just in case I never fit into the one size smaller skinny jeans.
Day 3 of chocolate muffin for breakfast. Glad to know this could help.
I've been indulging in a lot of retail therapy lately. Maybe because I reached 6 years of living with mets this month. One of the shops I found online (Amoena) sold all kinds of pocketed lingerie. I'm still reluctant to buy without fitting but good to know it's out there.
-
Heidi, I thought it sounded like good advice. Never followed it however. Actually, I do better with the waistband just below my waist (which is non-existent). I always wear my top out anyway. I'm noticing in ads that you only tuck the front of your shirt in, letting the rest hang out.
-
That piece of fashion wisdom is perfect for my new pants (still to be delivered). The elastic was only at the back.
-
The next goal in sight for me is to keep on track to lose that 10 lbs by Christmas. I have 4 more to go, need to get to 122 and stay there, or below, by the end of the year.
I am not into paleo and don't need to go gluten free, but I do find that keeping refined carbs and sugar to a minimum make a big difference in keeping cravings at bay.
-
Good Grief! After my last vacation, I really truly have 10 pounds to lose!!!!!!
-
Ruth you may not be the only one in the good grief category. This week of post chemo hunger and holiday weekend is doing some major damage. I need to get on the wagon today not tomorrow.
-
Can someone give me a lift up into the wagon. I was good all weekend but fell off yesterday and the scale this morning was up. So, it is back to keeping a food journal and eating healthy. I had fresh watermelon for breakfast, 3 oz of chicken and 1 serving of green beans for lunch and a fiber one brownie so far today.
-
GuyGirl - I'm in the ditch with you. I gained 2 pounds from this weekend. I'm trying better today. You are doing great. We will get there.
-
The food log sounds pretty good to me, GG.
Down 400 grams. I'm cutting wine out of my diet until further notice. No more sweets as well until the weekend. I've got to be strict before two parties this weekend.
-
Down 0.7 lbs.
I have been keeping a food log in a small spiral notebook since I started trying to lose. It really helps even if I don't count calories or ww points.
-
Rats, up .4. Started back to work, hopefully can now get back on a routine. Now 173.4
To everyone who has lost this week-way to go!! To the rest of us, keep trying, after all life is full of ups and downs :-) -
Up .5 to 163. Dealing with a rotten cold, so not very concerned with what I am putting in my mouth right now (except lots of soothing tea). Will get back on the wagon when I get over this.
-
Life is SURE full of ups and downs. I have finally lost three pounds by kicking up the exercise, Whew! I almost always eat pretty conservatively and healthfully but that was not doing it. I bought a cruiser bike and love riding, also i have been swimming more now that I recovered from rads.
Not that I am a success story- FAR from it, but if I had one piece of advice for those starting out on this post-chemo weight loss journey, I would say to buy a cheap pedometer. Until I did I had no idea how sedentary I had gotten. It really helps!!!
Good luck fighting the dreaded pounds ladies!
7 pounds to go before Christmas. Love our challenge! -
Up 2 pounds. Ugh. I feel so bloated. Will watch th sugar and carbs this week, try to do better. have a super week and so happy for those of you who lost this week. You all give me the encouragement I need.
-
Down 2. FINALLY got to drop into the next lower 10!
I've been either riding a bike (inside or outside) for an hour or walking for an hour. A couple of days I did both! (To make up for the brats and chips. Lol.) Normally still only having healthy carbs, but it was a holiday picnic.
FINALLY!!!
5 to go to my pre DX weight.
15 to go to my happy place.....but I'm focusing on 5 at a time so I don't get discouraged and give up. (Usual MO.)
Best part? Feeling healthier! -
Good for you Dulci!
Hang in there Rangermom.
We will all get there slowly but surely, with each other's encouragement.
Have a great day -
The 5 pounds I had gained on my previous vacation and had just lost....they found me again on my latest trip....so back to the drawing board....
-
Down .5 to 130. Maybe I'm going to have to exercise yet. I don't know why I hate it so much. I'm ok walking with a destination; always walk from home to our neighborhood downtown.
-
Morning girls! Proud to report that I had finally reached my short term goal, broke the 160 lb barrier, and now weigh 159. A very slim margin, but I will do my darndest to stay there, and only go down from there. My next goal is 155 lbs. I have bought myself a very beautiful dress for my son's wedding in November, and it fits like a glove. So no weight gain allowed - lol.
Sciencegal, I fully concur with your pedometer idea. Since I got mine, I am just way more motivated to move. In the evening when I realize that I am still short of my step goal for the day, I will jog in place in the kitchen during TV ads. It adds up quickly.
What helps me greatly is to eat a very small supper between 5 and 6 in the afternoon, and then only drink water or tea for the rest of the evening, and maybe have a fruit if I feel really hungry. I defnitely lose weight when I go to bed a little hungry. Breakfast and lunch are the times when I eat most of what I am supposed to eat for the day. I exercise every day - walking 2 - 3 miles, yoga, aquasizes, strength training and cardio in the gym. Most weekdays I do two of these. On weekends I walk.
I wish to thank you girls for this thread. It keeps me accountable, and I do not feel so lonely in my weight loss struggle. Like somebody said higher up, it is a slow process, and it takes some doing to stay focused. Together we can do it!
-
hi ladies, I'm down .5 this week, but it's the .5 I was up last week, so really I'm right back where I started from lol. Anyone need a hand up onto the wagon? I just climbed back on myself.
Wren thanks for the thoughts on almond butter vs. almonds. The difference may be the softness factor. I love the 100-cal pack of natural almonds but haven't had any in a while. I've had dental issues in the last year and worry about cracking a tooth so switched to cashews. Small pkg for morning snack is higher in fat & cal than almonds but it holds me until lunchtime.
Have a good week everyone, we are trying our best and I'm proud of us! ♥
-
I've finally broken my stuck point at 160 to 158. A pound a week in the last two weeks despite being on vacation. Spending 3 hours a day with a hyperactive ADHD in the ocean for 10 days kept the pounds off despite some pretty serious eating out.
It sure helps to have this forum for accountability. I am having a revision surgery on Monday from my reconstruction and will be limited temporarily in exercising. My main hope is not to gain during this period.
Luck to all this week!

Peggy, Liefie way to go!!
I'm trying hard not to resort to stress eating. Had my first post BC (hope it's post) unilateral mammogram today and was there 3 hrs. They did extra views and an ultrasound. Found new calcifications that could be from tissue damaged by surgery and radiation, but they said it's not typical to see that so soon. The calcifications could also be from cancer, but it would be unusual to see that so soon after chemo and radition, too. The only way to know for sure is to have another core needle biopsy, which is scheduled for Monday...sigh
