Newly diagnosed & have IDC and ILC and DCIS in left breast...
Hi all, I was diagnosed on July 1 after a routine mammogram (3D for the first time) which resulted in being called in for an ultrasound and then a core needle biopsy. One tumor is behind my nipple and is 1 centimeter and the other is between my nipple and my armpit and is under 2 centimeters. There is NO BREAST CANCER in my family and only one person with cancer (my deceased father). So this came as a huge shock. Since then, I've had an MRI which confirmed the diagnosis, seen a surgeon who told me they can't save the breast and have to do a mastectomy and sentinel node biopsy and a terrific plastic surgeon who's going to give me a silicone implant and take the skin for my areola from my back where the bra line is. On Thursday, I meet with the oncologist where I hope to find out more about the sub-types, etc. I see forums for each type of cancer but I don't see anything with 3 different ones in 1 breast. Would love to hear from others who may share my experience. Thanks. By the way, I am 57, live in GA, and live with my wonderful fiancée.

I'm sorry I missed this post when you first put it up.
I'm similar to you - had IDC and ILC in my left breast. There was also DCIS and LCIS in there as well. I had to have a mastectomy as there would have been not much of my breast left to keep once all the tumours were taken out. While it's not that common to have all this in one breast, it does happen.
I'm almost three years out from my initial diagnosis now and have finished chemo and Herceptin and am still taking an AI as I was ER and PR+. I'm doing really well - it's a rollercoaster ride when you first get diagnosed, so ask any questions you like, we all support eachother here.
I chose not to have reconstruction - and have a prothesis - it's a very personal choice. I'm now 56 (almost) and live in Canberra Australia.
Once you have your meeting with your onc and have the pathology from your mastectomy you'll have a better idea of what your treatment options are. My IDC was the biggest tumour and ER,PR and HER2+ so that was how my treatment was determined. My ILC was ER and PR+ but not HER2+. I still had to have chemo and 12 months of Herceptin because of the IDC tumour.
Keep us posted on how you go - and don't forget to ask as many questions as you need to.
Sending you (((((hugs))))

Hi,
I am also in your shoes, sorry to say. I had IDC with micropapillary features, DCIS and ILC all in my left breast. I had a mastectomy three weeks ago and I'm waiting a few weeks before doing the chemo. I am so scared and nervous all the time now. I barely eat and am still taking a few pain meds for discomfort. I honestly dont know where to turn or what to do right now. I am 58 yrs old. No history of BC in my family. I sit and cry at least once every day now.

Sorry to hear, Changlyn,
It sounds like you don't have enough support. There's a lot of support on these boards. I am 57 and had a mastectomy 8 days ago. Where do you live? Do you have support groups? Family or friends nearby? This is NOT something to go through alone. I hope you are feeling better. -
I'm on the same boat. I have dcis and idc at two different places in my right breast and adh with dcis at left breast. luckily they are all not that big. i had lumpectomies in August. due to unclear margins now i will have bilateral mastectomy soon. I'm very frustrated, but i guess i have no choice but fighting for it.
