just saw a letter saying the ILC I had was multi focal, think i had blocked that out before but how significant is it given that i had mastectomy with close but clear margins?

    Hi, Lily55.

It is common for lobular to be multifocal. I had it in all four quadrants, and that was post-chemo (and not found on any imaging prior to surgery).

Both my BS and MO said that it is not "more" negative, does not pose any additional risk. It is simply the nature of this particular BC beast.

I was told the same thing. ILC tends to be multifocal. I had two tumors in one breast, all gone when i had the mx. Your clear margins are the issue. Feel good.

    Hi Lily,

I've read ILC can be more multi-focal (than IDC or other types) in various literature and over the past two years since my own dx. happened.

Even though I had a lumpectomy with close but clear margins, ACDD and 12 T, 6 weeks rads--I am glad I went forward with my bmx this past July because of that tendency.  The post surgery path showed no involvement in the radiated lumpectomied breast but atypical hyperplasia in the "uninovled" breast, putting me at higher risk for another round in the future. Which, of course, didn't show up on all my mammos, pet scans, 2 MRIs, and and US that I've had since dx.

ILC. Whoever invented this s*)T, I want to talk to themYell

I had twenty ILC tumours in my breast some very small but all individual foci not broken from the main tumour. Mine was over an area of 9.5cms, didn't show up on a Mammogram and showed up as a 1cm tumour on ultrasound. It is definately a very sneaky cancer!
