Panda, so so sorry!!!! What a bummer! No matter how you try to get it arranged, it seems to fall apart! If I had a date that would work I'd gladly give it to you, but mine is for mid November and I think there is only one Dr scheduled for me anyway!!!
Just a big hug - and hope something comes up that works for you!
HUGS <<<<<>>>>>>> -
Davy,
Thinking of you today and wishing you well through surgery and recovery!
I wish I had read posts daily like I usually do as I missed your post for help. I would be very happy to come discharge you on Saturday. I sent you a PM with my contact info. -
Can't believe it is Friday....Davy,you know I am thinking of you and hope it is all working out.Pinkheart, that is great of you offering to help her.I am over my pity party and will pick a new date....I just feel badly about the people involved and telling them..ooops,another change, can you adjust your schedules again? Who knows, maybe flights will be cheaper, weather a little cooler,me a little better in shape.....Thank you for understanding and being here.
-
got my reservation at the Homewood for December! Nice medical rate for a nice room
-
Panda,
Please don't throw in the towel, you've come so far and the end result is worth it. Although I do know these challenges can get you down. Try to let the little victories (the fee waiver, DH being able to reschedule once already, etc.) bolster you through. What about finding a college student volunteer to feed the animals? Any schools close by. Just a thought.
I'm all through with stage three. I took a little peek and the girls are looking better. In a few weeks I will post pictures of all three stages. Dr. Kline did fat grafting to the upper poles on both sides, filled in the donor sites with fat and removed the dog ears. He used the fat from my saddlebag area. I'm running out of fat though so hopefully I won't need much tweaking for the final surgery later this year. I probably should have waited until after reconstruction to become a vegetarian :-).
Hugs to all still healing and waiting! -
Davy,
Glad to hear the girls are looking good. I have stage 2 on October 25 and sure am hoping they look better. He left a lot of skin for me and I really want that and the dog ears gone. Also, did he lipo under your arms? I'm afraid that area will look funny if not. Not a fan of side boob.
I finish my last chemo in 3 weeks. All is going well.
Special thank you to pink for talking to me about her experience and recommending Dr. Kline. Hope you are loving your new home.
Prayers and good health to you all:) -
Crs319 - glad to hear your last chemo session is fast approaching! I did not have much lipo in stage 2. I had SGAP, so he did a butt lift (which added two vertical incisions less than two inches long), didn't remove the dog ears but instead extended that incision out an inch, removed the skin flaps and sewed up the right IMF. Removing the skin flaps resulted in tightening the wings on the side of the boobs. Now the left side looks normal with no loose skin. The right side, however, still has some looseness. Dr. K said that's normal, but of course I know it's not
. So in my final stage I will ask that he correct it if I don't see a vast improvement this time. He said that would involve cutting into that area to remove the skin. I'm fine with that, I just want it gone because it looks very odd to me.
Stage 3 did not involve lipo under the arms - I don't have any fat there, just the skin I mentioned in the right side.
Cheers,
Davy -
Davy...YAY!!!!Sounds like you are feeling good and you know that I would donate some of my fat if I could...maybe the looseness will resolve with a little time? Will be waiting to see pictures.I am not giving up.It was just such a pain trying to coordinate the flights and finally found ones that worked..now it is a lot harder because there are not as many flights in October and trying to work around my cousin and friends schedules is making my head spin.My animals will be fine for a short period of time,my husband will feed them morning and night.I just like to spoil them...So I am thinking my new day with be October 18....
-
Panda,
Charleston is ranked as one of the hardest cities in the country to fly into. It can be a real pain! but its worth it!
-
My drain just pulled almost all the way out!!!! My husband pushed it back in and taped it good but the stiches are toast. Guess I better call Dr. K in the morning. WHY ME?????????????
-
Lbrewer,
Hope it doesn't cause problems. How many. CCs were you down to?
I've had 17 drains, and from the beginning was shown by a nurse to tape down the drain tube about an inch or two from the hole. That way the tubing tugs on tape and not stitches.
Keep us posted and take care! -
well dr k said to pull it because putting it back might cause an infection. Of course it happened late last night and I already pushed it back! Go figure...I always seem to choose the wrong course. I swear from now on I am going to do the exact opposite of what I think is the best!
-
Lbrewer just read your post - would have suggested calling Dr K- now you know though!!!! I too had a similar problem and now know NOT to push it back in. But calling or emailing to ask is the right thing to do for sure!
-
My last drain came out on its own....so I did not have to worry about pulling it! It was about time for it to come out anyway.
Now, to Stage 2A....2 days away. I am not nearly as nervous as I was with the first stage but, just the same, will be glad for it to be over. I go down Wednesday, surgery was moved up to Thursday from the orginally scheduled Friday. Not a big problem, we are just going down a day early and will have to stay in a hotel (had a free credit card night) one Wednesday. Mama & Tommy will just have to check into the Sandpiper without me on Thursday. I'm hoping to feel well enough to enjoy some of Charleston this time--provided it does not rain, as it did all summer!
-
Of course the drain came out at 10:30 Sunday night on a holiday which is why I waited till the next day. had to pull it out again and now am on antibiotics. What happens to the fluid that now can't drain? I put in a call to Chris but haven't heard back yet.
-
Lbrewer, sometimes the hole remains open for a while and the fluid escapes from there so keep a gauze over it. Often your body simply reabsorbs the fluid. Then there is the seroma, which I hope doesn't happen.
-
I'm praying no seroma as well. I called my BS but his nurse says he usually will not deal with issues resulting from surgery he didn't perform. And the PS surgeon who did the expander won't see me either.
I'll probably end up at the ER just to get seen! I know its all about liabilty but this is crazy! Anyway keep me in your prayers!
-
lbrewer...is there anyway you can get some compression on the site??? not sure where your drain was. I have been in compression since March from my gap. Developed a seroma once drain was pulled which turned into a pseudo bursa which had to be fixed surgically in May. Still wearing compression until she gets to fix my bum. She does not trust me out of it LOL. Hoping your body takes over and reabsorbs like they usually do!
Maggie
-
Sorry to hear you are having problems. Seems like "when it rains, it pours" as they say. By the way, what is a seroma? As I mentioned before, I am scheduled for Stage 1 early November. It sounds like these minor to more serious complications are becoming the norm. Do you think one can always expect some complications??? I certainly hope your issues related to the drain coming out will be kept to a minimum. You're in my thoughts and prayers. Unfortunately, with no experience with this yet, I can offer no advice. Best wishes. Montrial
-
lbrewer - don't worry til there is a reason. You may not get a seroma as you body may reabsorb as you are 5 weeks out. Like Maggie says - compression is the best prevention.
Montrial - a seroma is a pocket of fluid that can build up after surgery. The drains usually get rid of it, but some of us are jucier than others and require drains for longer than usual or the fluid builds after the drains are removed. Compression helps prevent the development of seromas.
-
Thanks for the tip on compression. On with the Spanx!
-
You might want something a bit stronger that has an open crotch so you only pull on once. Try www.marenagroup.com. And you can add clean wash cloths over the incision and the drain hole under the spanks to increase compression.
-
ditto what martyj said. Compression has really saved me from further complications.
Montrial...sorry if we are scaring you. Complications are NOT the norm. Many ladies have had these surgeries without any. Just remember that when we do have one we post to see if anyones else had LOL! You will be in good hands. Ask anything you like here. My thoughts have always been hope for the best but prepare for the worst :O

Montreal-I had Bmx with DIEP on May 1. Went back to work full time 6-24. Stayed 4 days in patient-had a clot right after surgery so they had to go back in same day. Flaps fine. Stayed in charleston 3 days then drove 8 hours home. Dr. Kline told me to stop every hour and walk a flight of stairs. I did. No complications at all. You will do great!
-
Correction- my husband drove home!!
-
the hole in my butt seems to be healing fine. Chris said if its been 48 hours and no fluid build up, I'm probably out of the woods. BUtt my BS agreed to take a look at it anyway. Their office has been amazingly responsive. I wish there was some place other than here to let people know. Here, we're just preaching to the choir!Dr. K sent me 3 different emails on Labor Day. Even my kids don't check on me that ofter.
Montrial, sorry if I scared you. I was just looking for advice. A lot of the time, other women have advice that a man would never think of. The maxi pad taped over gauze works great!
Dr. K told me about the stairs driving home too. Like there are any stairs off I-95! I went to a parking lot concrete thingy and did up/downs!
-
I have appointment tomorrow with Dr K to get measured and talk about BRAVA. I have not been eating enough fried chicken and have lost weight due to divorce nerves .....
My Stage 5 surgery is scheduled November 15. I keep forgetting to PM my surgery info to Jeskachi to post on list at top of this thread.
Anybody else have dates that you wish to be added to list??? -
Pink, I do, my surgery is scheduled on the same day, November 15, as yours!
Hope all goes well with the appointment today and the nerves settle down!!!!
Hugs
Catie -
Not to worry -- I have a positive outlook -- just a teensy bit nervous. I did speak with a previous patient of Dr. Craigie's last night who has recently completed her reconstruction process. She really put my mind at ease, as all went smoothly for her. I understand the questions about issues being addressed on this site. It is comforting to know one can reach out to all of you and receive prompt, knowledge through experience responses. Thanks to all!! Montrial
