When did your SE of Tamoxifen start?

Hi everyone Smile

I posted this question in the Hormonal Therapy forum but thought I would ask here too.

I am 41 and premenopausal. I have a strong family history of breast cancer and have been prescribed Tamox. I am on Day 4. Can I ask when your SE of Tamoxifen started? As yet, I have not had any other than a bit of joint stiffness. I had read somewhere that younger women do tend to tolerate Tamoxifen better. Would be great to hear others experiences, including when SEs began. Thank you

I am 46 and premenopausal. My main side effects have been constipation and hot flashes. They started after about two weeks, but lessened after a couple of months. I notice the joint pain nly occasionally now. I am on the Watson brand. There is a thread here somewhere about the different side effects from the different brands.

I started tamo July 10th. I am 46 years old and on it for a diagnosis atypical lobular hyperplasa. I have not had one side effect and doing fine.

It took me about a month to start getting 'warm flashes'.  But I don't know if that was from Tamoxifen as I was peri-menopausal and it was summer.  I also got benign uterine polyps about every 1.5years, but, again, I don't know if they were from tamoxifen as I had benign uterine polyps before I started tamoxifen too.

    Hi everyoneSmile

Thanks for your replies everyone. I think I had my first warm flush yesterday afternoon. Hopefully they stay manageable.

Within 2 months of starting on tamox, I had an horrible yeast infection, but it cleared up with Diflucan and I never had another one in 5 years. I really didn't notice any other SEs with the tamox, except I did end up with ovarian cysts which ruptured (ending in a TAH/BSO and immediate surgical menopause)---apparently a very rare SE (only 11% risk of it), but more common in premenopausal women; so I recommend a yearly transvaginal US to monitor both the uterine lining and the ovaries.  I attribute any of my further SEs to the surgical menopause and not the tamox.
