Melissa that came out fantastic !!
-
Melissa, the quilt is beautiful. You, machine quilted it as well? Amazing!
-
I finally have this piture thing down. Here is the quilt I made for my friend/should have been sister for her birthday. It was one of the first ones I did when I started quilting again after being away from sewing for almost 30 years!
-
AJ that is gorgeous!! I love the colour combination!
-
Thanks Chrissy. All the fabrics were in one collection from Moda and I love them all so I tried to use some of each of the pieces from the whole collection. It sure made blending and matching colors easier!
-
Beautiful, and I love the fabrics too. Which Moda line is it?
-
OK. I have a question for all you quilty people. Is it really imperative to have a rolling cutter when quilting, or can you get by using scissors?
BTW, beautiful quilt Elisimo
-
You absolutely need a rotary cutter & mat.
-
Beautiful sampler quilt, love the blue, yellow and green colors.
Garden Gumby, You can get by with regular scissors but it is easier with the rotary cutter to cut strips. Early quilt patterns were all made with cardboard templates and cut out with scissors, but most of the quilt patterns today are written using the rotary cutter.
My grandmother made most of her quilts using plastic (milk jug) templates, mechanical pencil to mark and her sharp scissors. She had a rotary cutter in later years but didn't use it that much. Of course, some of the fabrics she used in the 80's were cutting room scraps she got from a local shirt manufacturer and she used her plastic templates to mark the shape on the fabric and used her scissors to cut out the pieces. The quilt I got from her when I got married 17 years ago (she dated it made in 1984) is a maple leaf pattern made from the scraps, and it is all made with half-square triangles and no squares because the pieces were not big enough for the 3 1/2 inch squares but big enough for half-square triangles. I also have the baby quilt she made for my son (out of the same fabric as the maple leaf quilt) in 1985. She stopped major quilting by the mid 90's when her eyesight was failing and she went in the nursing home.

You could get by with scissors, but a rotary cutter is so nice. If you're making a pattern with the same piece in various fabrics, you can stack them and cut multiple layers at once. I'm on my second one and plan to use the original for cutting paper for art projects.
-
I made many of my first quilts without a rotary cutter, but the rotary cutter make things quicker and straighter.
-
OK. You've sold me. I'll have to spend some money....
-
Well girls my little fingers have been busy as you know so I thought I would share with you a very unfinished look at the bare bones of my crocheted top for the wedding......or it will be once I'm done......lol.
The green underneath is the colour of the fabris that I will make the skirt and top to go under the crocheted bit.
-
This is beautiful!!! What a talented lady you are!
-
LOVED it on FB Chrissy, and LOVE it even more here!!! Can`t wait to see it all in place!!
Way to go AJ!! I hope the gift was received with the knowledge of the labour of love that went into that....
Mel, KEEP your first quilt. You HAVE to. It`s a quilt rule (did we tell you?)
I made my first quilts without a rotary cutter as I do and did, wall quilts! Cutters are worth every penny though! Don`t buy the biggest one if you are only going to buy one. Buy either medium or small as they are easier to control.
-
Barbe, it is on my bed and I am definitely keeping it. Someone asked me who it was going to. I said "ME"! I love those fabrics.
Does anyone else recognize which Moda line Elismo's quilt is? She didn't answer & I really like them. -
Elisimo - beautiful quilt
Chrissyb - lovely crochet
LOVE the projects ladies
-
LOVE seeing all your pictures ladies. Mom started my twin and I young on sewing lessons. Used them as a young married to defray costs. Then due to neck problems let it go. But seriously apperciate the skill.
Chrissy gal can't wait for the final product of everthing--you are a star babe.
-
Melissa, check the Moda website, those may be older fabrics, though.
-
OK ladies, I dug back through all my selvages and found the name of the Moda collection is "Summer Breeze II" I must really love you guys to dig through all of that!
Chrissy - you are going to look fabulous! Love the color of the material for the top and skirt and it goes without saying the crochet work is beautiful.
Hope everyone is having a good long Labor Day weekend for those in the US and a normal weekend for those everywhere else.
Hugs, AJ -
Thank you, thank you! A true labor of love indeed Elismo:)
-
So much talent!
-
Beautiful work, Chrissy!
I used to sew clothing to save money, but nowdays it isn't that economical, but sewing clothing makes your wardrobe unique.
-
I'm going back to sewing to have things that fit. And are appropriate for someone over 30, who is no longer shaped like a teenager. All I need now is places to wear some nice things.
-
How 'bout breast cancer get togethers???
Seriously, hubby and I go out for dinner about once a month. It's an excuse
-
It's so sad that people don't dress nice anymore. Even at a nice restaurant or church people are wearing blue jeans, shorts, flip-flops and t-shirts with advertising on them.
-
I have been working on a couple of little halloween costumes for Patch & Lala this weekend. I made the cutest pair of cargo shorts for Patch's costume, but he is so stocky, they may end up being pants! They will be here on Friday and I am so excited. I want to have both costumes done so they can take them home with them.
-
How long are they staying Meece? So exciting when the kids come to stay!
-
Not long enough! Six nights.
On Tuesday next week we are going to go see one of our favorite sit-coms being taped and the kids will stay home. I am torn. I would love to spend the time with the little ones, but also this will give us one on one time with thier parents.
-
It's hard when you want to spent each precious moment you can with the grown ups and the babies........lol. I guess I was lucky when my grands were little they lived literally around the corner about a five minute walk away.
Enjoy each and every moment while they are there!
Love n hugs. Chrissy
