Hi all. I had my BMX yesterday with bi-lateral SNP and tissue expander placement. After a rough last night, I am feeling much better. I can go to the bathroom unassisted, I'm off the morphine and on oral Percocet. Just took my first walk around the halls with hubby. I only have 2 drains. I think they're sending me home tomorrow. Good attitude still in place and am expecting the best results. Hope all you who had surgery yesterday are doing well or better. Just a little bloated and gassy ( maybe from switching from liquid foods to solid this afternoon). All is well and I am very grateful.

Wanted to update. Had bilateral mastectomy with tissue expanders placed today. I am actually feeling great! Thanks for the Biotene tip, whoever mentioned that. I had a small dinner and took 2 walks... Full loop around the floor.

Hope all goes great for you tomorrow Babs. I saw a few folks recommended Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash because your mouth will be dry. It works great!

I can sit up without assistance, and have gone for 2 walks today. I'm excited to be doing so well, and hope it continues. I will get my pathology report later today and hope all comes out with no surprises!

glad everyone is doing so well. I think my surgery 2 weeks ago- 2x lumpectomy with oncoplasty and reduction on other side was almost worse than the bmx w/expanders last Friday.  Of course I think alot of my chest is numb now, so dont feel as much. Now that its settling a little- I feel the tightness in my chest, like someone said, like a tight bra on all the time. I also have numbness/tingling down my right arm especially around my elbow. Its not painful, but annoying- especially when trying to sleep- I have pillow under my arms, and I cant keep that arm still, the touch of anything is hard.

Had surgery Tuesday. It's now Thursday and I still feel out of it, just weak and so tired out and I can't seem to get comfortable. I'm wondering when you start feeling somewhat normal.

    JennH8,

Sorry to hear you are uncomfortable. Your body has a lot to recover from so you are bound to be very tired. Hope you feel a little stronger as the week progresses. Don't be to hard on yourself ok?

Jennh8 you will feel like that for awhile yet... just go with the resting up part and take meds when you want them. Im one week out now and feel alot better but definitely not my normal self. Dont lift, dont reach, dont dress yourself or wash up-- I dont mean not to try to do stuff== but use help!!! I dont have a lot of pain and still have 1 drain in- now its a matter of adjusting to these things inside pressing on chest, and getting used to the pins and needles on my right side arm from the snb.  Dr says if theres feeling that its good-- nerves should come back eventually. Part of the arm is numb, so that area wont.

Hi Ladies, anyone having drain discomfort besides me.  Was feeling pretty well overall until yesterday when remaining drain began to hurt and forced me to take extra strength Tylenol.  I feel like I have moved backwards.  This drain will most likely be removed next Tuesday.  Also my BS informed me that I should wear my compression camisole, though I feel better wearing my improvised sling made from a long scarf.  So I compromise, wearing the sling at night and camisole during the day.

Anyone opt for no reconstruction besides me?

Sending hugs an comforting thoughts to all of you.

I do have some discomfort but I surely expected that for several weeks while my body heals. I have lots of pressure but stopped the pain meds to see if pain is bearable. Hubby is making sure i take it easy until appointment next Wednesday.

Hope Jo had an easy surgery today and everyone else is healing well.

So far my drains have only hurt if I try to do too much. I stopped taking all pain meds so that I would get a painful reminder if I do too much. They are still draining...one about 30 cc per day, and the other about 50 cc per day. I am hoping to get them out next Wednesday!

Ok ladies who've had their surgeries, I need some assistance. I had my BMX on Monday. The pain is more intense since last night than it has been all week. Did you also experience more pain starting on the third day? The pain feels like burning, stretching, and an occasional sharp pain. I just want to check in and compare notes with ya'll. I'm also constipated since my surgery and have now advanced to calcium citrate.

Jacquie sounds like we are on the same page. I don't know if the pain is more or I am just feeling it more since I quit taking pain meds. I have not had a bm either doubled up on colace. Concerned that I am only getting about 10cc in each drain since 9:00 this morning.

Hope everyone else is progressing well.

colace, plus I drink some Miralax also, finally enjoyed a poop yesterday, almost a week after surgery. I agree if you stop the meds you get a good indication when you might need some. My last of 2 drains is out next Tues, I put a little gauze pad over the site with some light tape, just makes me more comfortable with it just being completely against soft shirt....my PS took off compression thing when I left hospital and left it up to me. Wore the camisole partly zipped at bottom, switched to sports bra, now just doing soft sleevelss tee..

Constipation is a usual SE-it's from the pain meds.  When I worked for a PS we told patients to take a stool softener with the pain meds to avoid this.  Also, usually the third day out from a SX everything starts settling in so you feel more discomfort .  Hang in there, it should start to feel better soon.

Jeannine- are you going to be doing radiation too?

Babs not anticipating rads unless something unexpected comes back in final path report. Right now all the docs think the chemo got it all. Praying for a complete response.

Hopefully next step will be reconstruction.

Oatmeal squares cereal and blueberries took care of the constipation problem for me. Tons of fruits and veggies in general have kept things...eh...regular since then, though I have not taken Percocet in 24 hours, so it should be less of an issue.

    Babs and jbdayton,

Surgery went well today and I'm sitting home with my hubby and watching MSU football.

I keep falling asleep though. I now have a 4 day wait for pathology report because nobody working on Labor Day per bs.
