I did not know she was moving! The address I have is from Jan. 2013. I imagine anything we send will be forwarded by the post office. If anyone has her newest address, please let me know!

OK. My wife has now had Stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 1998 and Stage 1 TNBC in 2013. While getting chemo for her TNBC, she was sent to the Dermatologist, who diagnosed a small spot of in situ Squamous Cell Carcinoma on the skin just below her nose. Now another "bump" just popped up on her hand, which is Basal Cell Carcinoma. She is BRCA2 positive, which supposedly is not related to the skin cancers or the Hodgkin's. ENOUGH ALREADY WITH THE CANCERS!!!!!!
-
ALhusband..I am sorry you must endure this. I had one removed a yr ago on my back and really need to go back to be checked again...just keep putting it off. You supportive hubbies are the best!
Mags
-
Thanks Mags. I made a vow before God to take care of my wife FOREVER...and I intend to keep that vow! She's by far the absolute best thing that has ever happened in my life and she is the strongest, most upbeat, positive person on Earth! That said, being supportive is the least I can do!
-
Where is the like button
-
Alhusband - you totally just made me cry! What a wonderful supportive husband you are - that kind of love is just beautiful and priceless! My husband has been wonderful as well, but you are amazing! Wishing your wife (and all of us!) a future of no more cancers!! Lana
-
Where is the clone button? LOL I have an awesome hubby too, and even then, I can appreciate all the others! You are a good find ALHUSBAND.
So what does the spot look like? Does it have irregular borders, is it tiny, does it look like a freckle?
By the way, there is a skin cancer app available for phones. You take a picture of the area, it analyzes it for certain things, such as borders, shape, size, color (I think) and it compares it to the last photo you took of it to alert you if there are any changes. Of course, not to replace a visit to the dermatologist, but a way to keep tabs on everything.
I'm still waiting for the app to help me turn a 24 hour day into a 36 hour day! LOL
-
Alhusband, hang in there for your wife. You are the best thing she can have right now!
-
If I could give a husband of the year award, it would go to you Al. You go above and beyond for your wife. She may be a gift to you, but you are a gift to her. It is hard and sometimes lonely to have cancer, because people don't always understand what it's like to be in our shoes. But you seem to relate and understand....so sweet you are....I think I will gently "share" with my husband about you...wonder if he will get the hint....lol Hang in there, her Doc will take good care of your wife. hugs to you
-
Al- while my husband has been wonderful through my ordeal- taking care of the kids, housework, meals, etc.- he never once tried to educate himself about what I was going through. Even when we had kids he never read anything about pregnancy or how to care for the baby. He just did what I told him! Hmmm, maybe that was a good thing! LOL! Anyway, kudos to you Al for being your wife's advocate and really trying to understand what she is going through!
-
Inspired she has been diagnosed by a Dermatologist. We're not guessing at the basal cell or squamous cell stuff. It's there. Biopsy confirmed it. Topical chemo (Fluororicil I think) has pretty much taken care of the squamous cell cancer under the nose. He'll probably cut out the one on her hand on Friday. BTW...mastectomy is on 9/13. Oophorectomy in November. PS doesn't want the oophorectomy done at the same time as reconstruction for fear of increased risk of infection. BS would have been fine with doing them all at once, but PS poo poo'd the idea. Kathy says she's tired of being "carved up like a thanksgiving turkey" and I don't blame her. She just had major back surgery this past December as well (two titanium rods and 4 screws!). Looking forward to a medically uneventful 2014 and beyond!
-
AlHusband: I understand no taking chances! But what I was asking, was what did it look like to you all? Were you suspicious? I'm asking for info so that all of us on here can be more proactive about things like this!
My 11 year old nephew had 2 titanium rods put in his back earlier this summer. He acquired some strange infection, and they are calling it staph, but we wonder if it's one of those you can get from the waterpark or river, as he had been there. He missed an entire year of school, with being sick, and then it deterioated his spine. They say the infection is gone now and he's being home schooled, he did have home school the entire year. He bounced right back from this back surgery. Also, ironically, my cousin also had 2 rods put in her back when she was in her 20s. The surgeries have improved so much, as my nephew was up and walking around extremely fast.
Big thing to help with recovery of BMX is no caffeine. My PS forbid caffeine for 6 months. I think that is why I healed so well and so fast. I had Ginger Ale at the hospital due to his preference. LOL
Sending your wife the best wishes for her upcoming surgery!

My chemo will start again tomorrow, not looking forward to the SE's but if it's gonna kill all my cancer cell, I'm ready! I was hoping to start after Labor Day, but hey the sooner I get rid of all my tumors the better, right ladies! Hope all of you have little to no SE's and we can all do this together! Wish me luck!
-
Oh Julie I wish you the best! Is the chemo going to be at same place as before? How close is it to your home?
What chemo treatment are you doing and for how many cycles? I think of you often and pray for everyone on these boards everyday. I pre-medicated with a Percoset each time. Hope you are resting now for your big day tomorrow. What days are your radiation treatment on?
Hugs!! -
Debra, chemo is at a completely different place, seems like a nicer place and I love my new medical team. A little further away than before but worth the drive since it's a cancer center that has my radiation onc on 1st floor, CT/x-ray place on 1st floor and chemo onc on 5th floor, pharmacy next building over, so convenient, but about 45min-1hr commute with traffic.
Onc wants me to try weekly for 2 months Carboplatin low dose and see how I do, since I will also be having daily brain radiation with it. If my body tolerates it, he wants to dense dose me every 3 wks. I did well with Taxol weekly low dose, so hoping I'll do welll with this one too! Thanks for the prayers, I pray for all my sisters here too! -
Oh Julie this sounds like a great facility! How wonderful that you got into such a great place, and they will have the most recent state-of-the-art treatment plans and protocols!
) Your plan sounds great --- start slowly and then build up. Please let us know how it went today!
-
Well ladies, all went smoothly today, took a nice nap and I was done. Only took about 2 hrs, short compared to my past experience. I will be doing weekly Carboplatin for 3 wks, then 1 wk off for 2cycles. Was and will be a breeze! Feel so good I want to go Labor Day shopping early with my girls! Thanks for all the cheering! Wooparoo wooparoo!
-
Wooparoo wooparoo, indeed!
-
yeah naan!!! go pop some tags!
Maggie
-
Naan - I haven't been posting lately, but your story caught my eye. I'm so glad that treatment looks like it will be a breeze. I'm in central California, but go to UCLA for treatment for macular degeneration and thyroid issues. All of my TNBC care has been in Fresno. I see you live in Granada Hills. May I ask where you get your TNBC treatment? My tumor markers are starting to show some activity and I want to go to UCLA if the TMs really act up. Have a wonderful weekend shopping with your daughters. Jan
-
Julie, you have a fantastic attitude. So glad it went smoothly at chemo. Praying all the rest goes as well and sounds like your family rocks!
-
Jan, I go to the LA Cancer Center 500 S Virgil Ave ste 502, LA, CA 90020. My onc is Dr Clan Hahn 213-388-0908. My radiation onc is Dr Hanjoo Kim, same building Ste 101, 213-739-5090. If u have a chance you should ck out this hospital, the building across the way is my daughter's orthodontist and 1st has a pharmacy as well. Talk about all inclusive. The onc building also has a CT/x-ray off ice on 1st floor too. I love it there, everyone is so nice and helpful and treats you like family not another patient!
-
Julie - so glad you like your center. Have fun shopping!
