Hubby is removing dressings from wound debriment last Monday tonight. I'm really anxious. Need this incision to heal in order to start radiation therapy. Any words of advice?

    Dove,

Are you taking Vitamin C (500 two times a day) and Zinc (220mg 1-2 times a day)?   These help with wound healing.  Did your doctor prescribe silvadene salve to put on your wound?  Some folks use a mankua (sp?) honey dressing to aid healing.  Of course, you need to check with your doctor before starting anything.

    Best of luck.

My radiologist TLS me not to take supplements as it might interfere w/radiation therapy. PS's nurse said I didn't need to apply anything to wounds, but, I may used some mails honey just to be safe.

    Dove,

Since your radiologist says no to supplements, why not increase your "natural" intake of vitamin C by eating more fruits and veggies that are high in Vitamin C?  Zinc is found in peanuts, dark chocolate, roast beef, toasted wheat germ.  Just a thought.

Thanks! Have already been eating blackberries and grapes like crazy! Just took dressings off a couple hrs ago. Showered. Incision looks healthy. A couple of small areas that drained a drop or two of clear to yellowish fluid similar to fluid when I had drain bulbs. Have covered w/non stick pads for the night. Strange feeling and sensation under entire left armpit area, but, I'm accustomed to feeling complete numbness in that area due to tissue being dead,so, probably a good sign of healthy tissue. Plan to call PS's nurse tomorrow to give update and make sure I'm right.

Glad to hear everything looks good.  The sensations can be so weird.  Isn't it great when you can shower?
