Pink Pockets

Options

I have my mastectomy coming up next week, and I keep hearing about the drains and how they're pretty much a pain in the butt.  I had heard there are special camisoles you can buy to help contain these, and I have looked those up but they are pretty spendy.  A friend of mine gave me a link to a story recently that talked about different things to help with cancer treatment. In this article she sent me was a link to Pink Pockets.  They're pieces of cloth you can stick to your own clothes that form a pocket to keep the drains in.  I thought they looked pretty neat.  Plus, they are way cheaper than those specially made camisoles.  I went ahead and bought some, but I haven't used them yet since my surgery is still a week away.  I will let you know how they work out when I do though.  In the meantime, I thought I'd get the word out in case anyone else was interested.

I just wanted to say that I did not purchase a mastectomy camisole with drain pockets, but I woke up in one after BMX.  It was put on me in the operating room and part of what my insurance was billed for my surgery.  I didn't use the pockets on it because I didn't like the way the drains fit into them, I just used safety pins on the loops and pinned then to the inside of my clothes.

They do look like a neat idea!  I am wondering how they stick into clothes...if they velcro, etc...  I am kind of a McGuyver type, and may hit my spare cloth bin and dust off my sewing maching to see what I can come up with.  My current plan was to use lanyards, which I seem to have amassed a bunch in my junk drawer, and also to pin my kids clean singleton socks into my clothes.  I also may try sewing some singleton socks into some sort of belt thing...not sure yet.  Diving into my craft bin to create something out of my singleton sock collection is on today's to-do list.  Thanks for posting the link; it gives me more ideas!

THey have a really sticky tape type stuff that borders the pocket.  I'm not sure exactly what kind of tape it is but it seems to be pretty strong stuff.

I used them after my MX and DIEP, and the only problem i had was in trying to put more than one drain in each pocket. I had three drains on one side, and two on the other, so I was only able to use them easily when I was down to just a couple of drains.
