    Seaside, thank you so much for that post. Pat/Frapp was a soul mate, and to loose her is just making my heart break. We shared so much... a lamb, a love of laughter, she came to hear me perform, and loved my scones. She loved my brioche. We shared a slightly twisted sense of humor. We loved, and laughed at the men that we loved. She smiled with ease. I admired how she dealt with the crap that life throws at us. She cared for me. 

    Loosing Pat is crushing me. I sit outside and just weep. I understand that those of us who progess end up in one place, but that doesn't mean that I can manage this emotionally. Some people just touch our essence.

    I will go to her services on Thursday. My husband will take me. Turns out he wants to come. He adored Pat as well... but it is also treatment day for me. This is a reality check, and something we both want to do for our love of Pat. My "hidden" agenda is to have my husband, L, and Pat's partner to connect again.

    I am crushed. Sorry to write all my emotions here. yes. I have had a gin or two in her honor tonight.

    Oh Susan, what a painful, and touching post. I am so sorry that you ( and other sisters)have lost such a special sister/good friend. And what a beautiful eulogy you wrote for her!! Clearly her death leaves a huge hole for you....on top of other significant losses you've gone through this year. I can totally understand why you feel so bereft. This sucks!!! Sending you strength and so many hugs.....and hoping that attending Pat's services will in some way be comforting for you. Holding you close in my thoughts.

    Susan, so sorry to hear about your friend. We really do get to know our sisters on these boards and those we meet in person are true connections. You got to know a wonderful person who was important to you and many other people and that can only be a good thing. Much love, know that you all are in my prayers.

    Susan, I too read about frapp. Such a loss for you especially after all you've already lost this year. My sincerest condolences to you.

    So many losses, and for most of you more than one in a short time.  My heart goes out to all of you.  I remember the shock that physical pain often goes with a loss, and the feeling that surely God will bring them back.  Deb, that was a beautiful poem.  Please know that in time your pain will lessen.  Love to you all.

    Please do not feel badly about posting your emotions here!



    Even though I have not met any of you in person I have cried like crazy when those that I have 'met in my heart' have suffered a loss or passed away themselves. This stupid disease makes me so sad and very angry at how many are cut short in their prime. Yet... It has brought us together and, for better or worse, we would not have found each other given different circumstances.



    I find it interesting that you can know someone your whole life and yet they become no more than an aquaintance to you and then there are those who walk into your life and it's as if you have known them all along! Those are the truly special ones!



    Pat/Frapp sounds like she was such a great person! A special person who came into your life and you are the better for having known her even though it hurts to lose her.



    I will be thinking of you and your DH on Thursday when you attend her services and sending you comforting thoughts.

    Been ridiculously busy these past couple of weeks and have been just eating whatever happens to be around supplemented with take-out. Not healthy at all and, to add insult to injury, I think it's caused my clothes to shrink...lol! Must, must, must get back on track w/ healthy eating and exercise!



    Today, finally, I had some time to cook! Making Nancy's Minestrone with a tossed salad! I am really looking forward to all the veggies! I am exhausted and will hit the bed early.. at least that's the plan!

    last night hubby cooked steak, I made a slaw:  cabbage, jicama, cucumber, green grapes, purple onion, lime juice and a little bit of mayo.  I ate the leftovers for lunch.  :)

    Seaside- I agree, wonderfully put.  Also, I can't wait to finally try Nancy's soup!  I have had the recipe sitting on my desk since last spring. 

    Garden your slaw sounds interesting, I bet it's good, very different!

    I got so much done today.  The boys were at my in laws and I worked this morning and then vacuumed both floors, dusted both and cleaned both bathrooms- cleaned every ones fans from dust and did three loads of laundry.  I felt very accomplished!  Dinner was nothing fancy, cream of chicken soup mixed with sour cream poured over chicken with swiss cheese, some rice and veggies.  Kids ate pretty well, DH just got home and is trying it.  This is not my ususal dinner....I was tired but as usual he said thank you.

    Laurie and Seaside - Too funny. I was cleaning out piles of paper just today and found the minestrone soup recipe. I think the chicken recipe sounds delish kinda like chicken pot pie minus crust. I would eat it for sure.

    Last night was not so fancy spaghetti and sauce and tonight is - yes you guessed it leftover spaghetti. I am finally going shopping tomorrow. Our water was off yest. from about 3 am until 1230 pm - just a trickle. Was afraid a leak on our side of meter. Water co. truck went up street about 6am (I couldn't sleep) and then went on out road further. That pretty well settled it that leak was water co. problem and not on our line. Could flush, wash hands but nothing major. I had to fill up goat buckets when it came back on so no shopping. For some reason just tired today and couldn't make myself go so doing piddling things around house.

    Garden - your slaw does sound good.

    Yesterday was porkchops with rhubarb/ raspberry balsamic reduction. And two potato hash. My DH loved it., he cleaned IL, so that was nice. He was home with me last week for my surgery , so felt I had to cook at least once for him.... LOL

    Today was just chicken tenders from culvers. DH went back to work after my two Dr appts.

    Thanks !  Summer is a busy time.   Working takes up lots of hours again... but that's a good thing.   Nice to be moving on and getting back to some kind of normal after 2012.

    We're not doing this intentionally but except for the butter DH and I have almost turned vegan.  We're simply trying to eat the bounty of our garden.  Tonight is sliced tomatoes and cukes, boiled beets, spuds, carrots and green beans.  I just LOVE the garden.

    Boiled fresh beets are so good! I should go to the community garden now.  There are some I've been eyeing. I'm trying to hold off until they get bigger but it's hard.  They are one vegetable that I like plain when they're fresh.  I have so much I should be doing. 

    Deb, why oh why did you mention Candy Crush Saga???? I have to stop! I'm serious.

    For dinner I'm not sure, I have the ingredients for Laurie's orzo salad again but am too lazy to boil the orzo. How lazy is that? Also too lazy to cut up the cantaloup that I know will go bad.  I think tomato sandwiches with mayo and pepper over the sink.  I wish I had wonderbread instead of wheat, but they will still be good.  And then maybe put some salted peanuts in a coke. It's from when I lived in Atlanta

    I'm sorry.  I will do better in the fall.  I'm better at fall food.  Food is so expensive in the Arctic that I'm stocking up on split peas, beans, rice etc to bring with me to be the basis for soups and stews

    *Susan* can you tell me the amounts of the ingredients that went into the sauce of your layered vegetable terrine?  That sounds like something good.

    Yup, gotta say that I am addicted to Candy Crush, after I check my emails, I go on FB.

    I stopped at a farm stand on my way home from work and picked up 2 ears of native corn on the cob and two huge tomatoes, had the corn for supper and a little potato salad.  I'm full.

    Tonight was "empty the fridge" pasta - I cooked sound ground sirloin with onion and a leftover half of a red pepper.  Had some cooked penne, added some thawed cooked sausage, half a small container of greek yogurtthat was leftover, half a block of random cream cheese, half a jar of marinara, half a box of chopped tomatoes, and the sirloin mixture.  Mixed all together and put it in a cassarole dish, baked for 30 minutes.  Also had a salad of greens, sliced apple, pecans, goat cheese and scallion with balsamic vinaigrette - it was all pretty yummy.  Bonus - have enough for DH and DD to take in their lunchbags tomorrow - yay for me!

    Another day of cooking tomatoes for me. They are everywhere in my kitchen.



    I have an abundance of Thai basil in my herb garden so tonights dinner will be a Thai chicken dish, featuring the basil. It also uses bell peppers, which are overflowing the kitchen as well.

    Nance and all gardeners... Have you seen Martha Stewarts site for summer vegetables?  Deb had it on her facebook.  Many ideas for using out of control veggies.

    bedo, that sounds delicious.  I love adding chickpeas to salads.  I'm hoping hubby can build me a new pantry, as I'm definitely of the "out of sight, out of mind" persuasion anymore.  I keep forgetting what I have in my cupboards, as most of the food stuff is in the lower cabinets, and I'm just not much up to getting on my knees to look anymore!!!  (But I'm certain I've got chickpeas in there somewhere - I think....  )

    Garden , my house has a kitchen closet that we outfitted cheaply with pull out metal baskets we picked up at bed bath and beyond. It took him just one afternoon to put in four baskets. Now the upper shelves have tupperware containers that stack nicely for boxed goods, the drawers hold all my canned goods and I have a basket for, veggies, protien, ie, beans, tuna, etc. And I put soup cans here too. One for fruits and one with baking supplies. I can reach everything, nothing gets lost in the back. My baskets are a bit smaller than my shelves. So things like oils and. Extra ketchup bottles, vinegar go along the wall next to the baskets, but I can see them all the way to the back because only one row fits. It was a pain to set up, but it really didn't cost much. Because we used the readymade baskets rather than the more expensive custom route. the only thing you have to be careful of is that the baskets can pull out without hitting the door frame. That's another reason my baskets don't fit the shelves completely.

    I like the basket idea.  I think I'll mention it to him - but not just now, as currently he's up to his eyeballs in tiling stuff - all he needs to hear is that I want something - anything - other than what he's currently in the midst of.  He'd probably end up a widower...

    bedo~what a great link.  The problem I have is my freezer is getting full too.  Our growing season seems all too short, feast or famine.  I'm embarrassed to say we are going out for supper tonight.  LMBO, I think we need some meat!

    Just lost another post, so I'm "pist" and out of time as I need to get ready to take DH out for his birthday dinner at one of our favorite restaurants.....and it is restaurant week, so the price is almost right! He is a cheap birthday date as his BD always coincides with our area's restaurant week. :)

    I made the chick pea salad with ground pepper, red wine vinegar and EVOO.  There are many recipes for it's "type" on the web.

    Marple, I felt like Rosemary's baby-lady when I was anemic.  I wanted meat!!

    I am writing from Vicodinville.  My back has been hurting for a week and 1/2 and at this point my left foot is numb on and off and it hurts to walk and can't bend over. Finally gave up on the Advil and ice and went to doc. Going for an MRI tomorrow rule out fracture and stuff.
