And it's a medieval word, so we know for how long folks have been trying to, uh, conceal their age, lol!
Martie, I'm 57 just like you! (Told you I'm well-read)
GildedCage, welcome to the family ; ) -
Good evening ladies, day 6 was pretty uneventful until the realization that constipation had caught up with me, but really everything we take causes that😕well took 2 dulce lax and my sis brought me some benifiber. Well let's just say several hours of cramps and the never elusive chemo digestive issues I have survived. My head is getting itchy and I keep pulling at my hair wondering when I will pull out a clump, but I have a sneaking suspicion it won't be long.
Sleep sweet all my sisters and for those having or had treatment this week may minimal SE'S touch you and peace touch your hearts, minds and bodies.🙏
JellyK, have a great time in Vegas.
Tomorrow I do labs and I have an appt with PCP and Friday first f/u with MO.

Hi Chemo Sisters!
I love this book! "Chemo: Secrets to Thriving", From someone who's been there. It is written by Roxanne Brown in collaboration with Barbara Mastej and John S. Link, M.D. I have been following the advice to prevent neuropathy, and so far so good. I had my 5th dose of Taxol today, so still 7 more to go.
Lindsey 32, I will be going to MD Anderson the 3rd through the 6th, will you be there? I am on chemotherapy, a little backwards from most everyone else. I am on Taxol, and then probably A/C for four cycles, and then surgery.
I reacted to everything they did to me (cleansers like Hibclens and Chloraprep, and even pain medicine after lymph node dissection), so they decided to go slow. So I am still trying to figure out who will do my surgery, and where, meeting with breast and reconstructive surgeons, will have infusion and more tests to see how things are going while at MD Anderson..
I have heard that the more laughter we have in our lives the higher we boost our immunity, (besides the chemo is irritating when we cry), so I would like to throw out a suggestion that we post the funniest DVD's so we can each have a good old fashioned belly laugh every day to boost our immune system. Maybe if we each could name just one of our favorite comedies, or a sleeper that maybe not everyone has seen-we could have more laughter in our lives. I can tell you I need it!
Here's my favorite sleeper, order it on line-"The Waking of Ned Devine". is a little quirky but I think you'll love it!
-
Bella: Great idea about the movies my pick would be "LIAR, LIAR" with Jim Carey
-
Rayna,
Yes! Time to watch the double over can't stop laughing comedies!
I love your idea of going to Las Vegas to join the annual TA TA Sisterhood next year when we all are in a better place. We deserve it!
Maybe we could find someone to sponsor us, or join with a local chapter to do some breast cancer awareness.
Let's do it!

Boy has everyone been busy on here the last 24 hours, still haven't caught up reading.
LISA : Your wig sounds really nice, I'm thinking of buying a Hot Pink one like Samantha had on Sex and the City.
GASHGOLD: We could always go to Vegas every second year. The group that is going said newbies are welcome, It sounds like so much fun, they are quite the group.
TOGETHERNESS: That was very nice of your hairdresser to cut your way like that and it would have made it fun too. Hope you're doing well with the short hair.
CAROL; Love the haircut. Heh you are a virgo as well, my B-Day is the 30th and HVV is the 27th. Thanks for the laughs between you and Batcatlady, I've had quite an enjoyable read.
BATCATLADY: You are frickin' hilarious. but i agree about being angry, I am as well as I have opted out of two fishing trips with my family because I don't think it is that safe to be that far from a hospital. And good thing that I did because on the second night of the first trip I spiked a fever and ended up in the hospital for 4 days. So damn right I'm pissed, I don't think I will plan anything for the next 6 months as I have to have surgery when chemo is over.
JELLYK: Have fun in Vegas, I'm not sure if you read about the group that goes to Vegas every year but they will all be there at the Aria on the weekend of the 26th I think. I thought we should make an annual trip for all of us for next year when we are all healed and healthy. Sorry to hear about you soon to be ex.
GILDEDCAGE: That is awesome that you have so many wigs for a while ago. I think I will buy a couple that are funky and have fun with it.
I was noticing some groups named themselves,, I was thinking we should have called ourselves the AUGUST AWESOME ANGELS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well better go to bed, has taken me 2 hours reading and writing down notes on what to write everyone.
Love, Rayna -
oops, thats funny, my picture is upside down. wonder why it wasn't when I posted it. Try to fix it I guess.
-
BellaMomma: Your picture is really pretty.!!!!!
-
FMG: Thanks for asking that question about the merkin, I was wondering also but to chicken to ask. I knew it had to be something funny. LOL
-
Sharonanne - the time difference throws me sometimes. My day is ending as yours is starting. Right now it's 9.48 pm thursday in NEw Zealand and 2.48 am in California and 5.48 in NYork Thursday morning. So for example 9/11 didn't happen on 9/11 in Nz . I happened to wake up early that morning and listened to it happening live in the early hours of 9/12.
By the way, some NZers are mortally offended at being called Australians. We are the land of kiwis rather than kangaroos. I think the North American equivalent is like calling a Canadian, an American, is that right?
But no worries coz I'm not one of them : ). Some of my ancestors were born in America before the Revolution so I'm a little bit American perhaps? -
Rayna: Aren't you pretty? And Bella too!
Wow Viva Las Vegas! This is a great idea. It would be quite the kick to meet everyone and in a great place to boot.
Ok funny movie: Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Funny TV show: Arrested Development. Funny book: Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir) by Jenny Lawson. -
Gashgold, It was 6 a.m. when you said it was 9p.m. in Australia, where you live. When I tell the others good morning, I'll tell you good night. That's pretty cool, actually. Well, good night. It's 9:50 there, so get yourself to bed girl so you'll feel wonderful tomorrow as all of us go to bed. It is Thursday here. Are we at least in the same day or just parts of it?
-
Gashgold, I have kiwis in my refrigerator. I'll now think of you every time I eat one and I won't call you an Aussie. After all, you are our sister in this endeavor to eradicate these little monsters from our bodies. We're all in this together. Have a great night.
-
Well Carol, When I first read about your fungus, I was picturing it on your neck, not your tu tu. I don't know about blowing a hairdryer that far south of the border would do, but heck, could it feel any worse. When I have an infection like that from antibiotics, I always wish I had a corncob to use as a scratching post. Picturing that should give you a laugh.
-
Great Morning!!!
It is pouring with lots of thunder in my neck of the woods. On my way for a "filling" with my plastic surgeon.
My declaration for the day is, "I AM healthy, whole + complete". What's yours?
Peace to everyone being treated today.
Vegas sounds good!
I have to take notes on everyone's comments so I can post a response + join the conversations.
-
Guess I just never noticed the word "merkin" come up in the FBI thrillers I normally read.
. (It did make me laugh to think about how it would be written in though...!)
Shary: I started the same regimen (AC) the day before you. Hope you're feeling better today. I was on top of that other issue when I started the chemo since I was miserable with it following BMX. Just look at all the things we're learning in this fight for our lives!. Good thing we have each other to laugh (and cry) with along the way.
LOVE the updated pics of all your new "doos"! Mine's hitting the (patio) floor tomorrow night. Making as much fun as possible!. (Just wish they would have offered an "ear reconstruction" as part of this "package"!)
-
Martie: I bet you like James Patterson books, they're some of my favorite and you make me laugh picturing the merkin.
Don't worry about your ears just keep them inside the scarf or hat that you wear. Thats what I do.
Love, Rayna -
You ladies all look so beautiful in your new pictures, we really are a fabulous looking group😛I still have my have but I know it's day's are numbered. Ok at the risk of sounding dumb and I missed the original post what is a"Merkin"?
I wish everyone a great day and minimal SE'S.
Shary🌞 -
GavinsGrandma: From what I have read a Merkin is a toupee or wig for your Hoo Haa!
-
QUESTION:
I don't know how many of you will see this but I'm wondering:
How many of you still have surgery to do when chemo is over?
I will be having a B/M with immediate Recon probably beginning of November, I'm going to meet with my surgeon this morning.
Love, Rayna -
Oh how funny, guess I missed that one😄
-
I wanted to give a notice of recognition to all of you who are going through this for the second time. I didn't realize there where so many of you. I feel kind of bad whining and giving advice when some of you have dealt with all of this nastiness once already only to have it come back again. God bless all of you are I pray that this will be the last time you all have to deal with this, that you will be healed and go on to live til a ripe old age and see all of your children, grand children and great grand children grow up.
Love, Rayna -
Well said Rayna, I agree it is bad enough to go through this one time and I know none of us would want to go for round two. I was just thinking to myself yesterday how frustrating it will be when I hear someone complaining about a cold or " I just can't work today my head hurts" Puts a whole new perspective to being tough.
Shary -
GavinsGrandma: It sure does. I'm having a bad self esteen day, not feeling so great about myself with my bald head. If I heard someone complain about having a bad hair day today I might just go postal on them. lol
-
LOL, well don't be hard on yourself you are beautiful 😄I know what you mean though I have to have delayed recon so the reality that I will be flat and bald really did a # on my self esteem, on the up side I got these fantastic foobs hand made by Mary at Mastectomy solutions and I get to wear them for the first time today to do labs for MO f/u tomorrow. Looks like I will be rockin some nice C's today only w/o cleavage 😕I soon will be on the bald wagon, hang in there pretty lady and try not to go postal😝
Shary -
Good morning everyone! Nice to wake up and get caught up. I'm not too achy from the neulasta, but headachey. If it gets too bad I can take my norco
I took my Claritin.
Sharonanne, forgive me but it's driving me nuts! Gashgold does NOT "live in Australia". New Zealand is two totally separate islands located rather far from the island continent of Australia. Not like our state of Rhode Island, for example. Many Americans know NZ best for the shooting location of The Lord of the Rings series - it's incredibly beautiful with a wide range of geography. As for the Canadian/American comparison, that may not be strong enough to describe the feeling - more like how an older southerner might feel if someone called them a "Yankee" just because they didn't have an accent.
Sorry, SAB, thanks for letting me rant a bit about that, and the little geography lesson. I keep trying NOT to picture you with the corncob and your tu tu. MY mother called the area my po po growing up, but with my own kids I've stuck with the clinical names. Saves a lot of confusion (like when a coworker kept referring to her car as a Vulva ; ) Anyway, my NP yesterday said when my immune system went down everywhere there might be the normal flora just went "yippee!" And multiplied like crazy!
Now, why would I have yeast on my neck?? All I can think is that maybe all the drugs have me drooling like a moron in my sleep, and I haven't been sticking to the pillowcase when I get up, so I dunno! And why just on my port, too?
VEGAS - I have my 40th hs reunion up in the DC area next summer, so that might be my only trip. I promised my daughter that it would be a girls only trip, so can't renege on that! Maybe we can meet up with LISASP and some of the other East coast girls.
FMGDTR, where are you in New Jersey? My DIL is from, South Creek(?) - and shops regularly at the 2 places the powerball winners were sold. One of the winners, the group of county workers, has several of her and her folks acquaintances. It would be SO fun if you were from the same area!
Ok, funny movie - now this is a dirty one, ladies! But one of the funniest things I ever saw. it's Booty Call, and worth it for some of you younger types who might not be up on the late 90s movies (cuz you were like, in grade school ; ) I like movies like Valley Girl and Encino Man, all of which I get to revisit now that I have a teenager (who's a total Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink gal - and loves seeing "Alan from 2 1/2 Men as Duckie")
FMGDTR, my declaration for the day is "I am ALWAYS in the hands of God." Only He is going to carry me thru all this, and give me the grace to handle it with humor and acceptance. I'm triple negative. I just shot stuff made using E Coli willingly into my body yesterday to help fight the poison I dripped into a machine implanted into my body 10'days ago. My grandmother died of the radiation for her breast cancer in1960. My what advances we have made ; )
Love you all! -
Just a quick addition and then I'll shut up a bit!
RAYNA - I'll be having surgery post chemo and pre rads. Probably in October, so I'm with you! I'm taking out the right implant and having left mastectomy, both without recon this time around. Don't worry that some of us have done it before, I personally don't see you as whining, but regard any of y'all with complete sympathy. None of us is a Stage 4 gal, where yeah, BE bitter about whiners, lol! -
Rayna - I will be doing surgery after chemo, but with baby it probably won't be until Feb or Mar. Depending on what they find after chemo, I have a choice between lumpectomy or masectomy....by then most of you would have undergone surgery so I can find out why you chose what you did and weigh that into my decision!
-
Carol - You should write a novel, you write very well and are hilarious.
Are you telling me that the Neulasta shot is make from E-Coli, I did not know that.
And VALLEY GIRL OMG, I loved that show, what a way to make me feel ooooold. lol -
Rayna:
Recon surgery planned post chemo and prerad. Going in to see the plastic surgeon Sept. 4. After the 2nd lumpectomy my left boob has a dent! Oh well.
Carol the idea of getting to meet you next year is great! We should keep this concept going!
