What to eat?
Every time the weather changes, I seem to get a flare up. Is there a special diet I should be following at these times? Are they any foods you eat that seem to help with the fluid retention?

Hi GG,
Sometimes people's lymphedema is sensitive to barometric pressure changes that changing weather brings. That could be whats contributing to the flares. That's not to say diet can't play a part though. Staying well hydrated is always a good idea.

GuyGirl, good question. I don't know of any foods that help during a flare, but some people have trouble if they eat too much salt, and others have problems with alcohol. Pizza, chips, smoked meats--all salty, so you might try avoiding such foods when your LE is already acting up.
Selenium in Brazil nuts (no more than three a day, as it's possible to overdo on selenium) and bromelain in fresh pineapple both have some fans among lymphers who go for alternative interventions. I've tried both and haven't seen any improvement, but I still do the Brazil nuts daily just because I like 'em!
I'll be interested to hear what others here have come up with.

It is total mystery to me as to what causes the ebb and flow of my LE and also the fluid retention in my legs. I'll be great for a long time and then - there it is. I do think weather changes affect the way my body feels. I recently moved to a warmer and more humid climate and think sweating maybe have actually helped my LE... that's the only thing I have changed and it is doing prety good - go figure. I thought it would be much worse. Let us know if you find anything that helps.
