Thanks Lisa. Got good news......yay!......no nasties just a lot of chronic diverticulitis and irritable bowel.............as long as I know what it is I find I can deal with it but like all of us I hate not knowing when something is not right. I saw my naturopath as well today and man was that an expensive exercise! I was hoping I could cut back on the tabs she's had me on but no, no such luck. They cost me a little over $200 and that doesn't include her consultation fee. Oh well, back to saving my coins again.........lol......they sure did come in handy today!
Table runners......done. Crochet for the brides dress........done and delivered to the dressmaker..........chair ties..........two thirds done........guess what my jobs is this weekend?.......yup, you got it, cutting the other chair ties!..........lol.
Need some sleep so I shall go put my head down, I've had a big, busy day.
Love n hugs. Chrissy -
Chrissy, you are an amazing woman! You are like the Energizer Bunny, you keep on going. I have admired the work you have posted. It is beautiful. Your daughter is very lucky to have you in her life.
-
Chrissy, yay for the good news (well, the most important good news) about your colonoscopy. That's one worry gone. I'm just wondering where DD's wedding reception/dinner is to be held, and if you have somebody to take down all these lovely things you're making. At least try to get plenty of help with that!
What a week we've had keeping grandchildren every day, or at least part of every day. Nowadays this is not the norm, but yesterday was the last day for DGS #1's morning swimming lesson and we've kept DGS#2 while they went for that, then did our regular 2-day schedule of keeping DGS#1. Then tonight they needed babysitters so they could go out for dinner with friends. Don't begrudge them that, though. DS had a new job interview today and he got the job! Much improved pay and hours, and better insurance coverage for a monthly amt of what he's now paying every week! He'll give notice to his current job Monday. So happy for both DS and DIL.
Still on the baby countdown and I hope DD will stop long enough to have it. She's gotten her classroom ready for the new school year and gone to meetings, prepared lesson plans for her substitute, and finally found some shoes she can wear on her swollen feet for the wedding she's in tomorrow. I've tried to tell her she needs to rest all she can now because there's not much resting with a new baby, but she keeps right on going. Oh well, they live and learn just like we did.
Hope for a nice weekend for everyone!

Kathy, the reception/dinner is being held at the Italian Restaurant a three minute walk from my front door. My town is very tiny but this restaurant is wonderful and people travel from all over to eat there.........needless to say its our favourite.
The people who own the restaurant have purchased the whole building and are doing an events area.........we will be the first to use it. It's all so exciting as we have watched the changes weekly and adjusted thoughts on decor for the wedding accordingly. I will be posting some pics after the day.
When it comes to getting everything down to the venue, I will have a huge amount of help, probably too much and they will all annoy the hell out of me.........lol. For the set up, there will be the bride, other DD my sister and I .........more than enough to get done what needs to be done.
Having the grands is fabulous but when they are little they sure do wear you out. I chuckled to myself as you were describing what your expecting DD has been doing........yes, you are right, she will learn that if she thinks she gets tired now just wait till after the birth. No matter how confident you are as a new mum you stress when they cry and stress when they don't and you feel totally inadequate as a parent and feel that you should be able to know what your baby is trying to communicate............oh! I do feel sorry for the new mums, it is such a steep learning curve. It's a shame that we can't pass on our knowledge just because they know it all.
Hope her delivery goes well.........I hear the excitement in your words.
Love n hugs. Chrissy -
Chrissy,
What menu is planned for the dinner? I love Italian and will they have gluten free for you or are you planning to throw caution to the wind for that day. I cannot wait to see the pics of your daughter's dress. As I mentioned before I have been through this with four daughters. My only son has given us the opportunity to be parents of the groom on two occasions so far. LOL.
I just love your posts, Chrissy. You are always so upbeat - makes me feel good.
Marianne

Hi Marianne, good to see you. I do admire you for putting on weddings for 4 daughters! We've done our only DD's 2 weddings, the first a formal exensive affair with exactly what she wanted--only problem was that the groom was gay and failed to share that little tidbit with DD or anyone else. After 2 years of unhappiness she got that one annulled. Her 2nd was outdoors and casual, and this groom isn't gay!
Chrissy, that sounds like a lovely venue for the reception! Glad you'll have plenty of help too. I can't wait to see pictures of everything, especially her dress and all your beautiful handwork! She's so fortunate to have you.
Today I'm making a few dishes to freeze for DD and SIL for after the baby. Also have to freeze some garden stuff too, but right now the kitchen's just too hot.
Love to all, Kathy
-
I am really happy I have three sons!
-
Marianne the menu will be pretty traditional Italian........canapés with drinks while waiting for the bride and goom then anti pasto with all the usual things, char grilled zucinni, sundries tomatoes, button mushrooms, artichoke hearts, mixed hard cheeses with honey and mixed sliced meats......then pasta.......then pizza......then salad with whole roast beast (think DD has ordered lamb) and for desert a mixture of cakes and pastries (all Italian of course) and the wedding cake. They will do gluten free for me and DD as she also eats gluten free. The wedding cake is great too as the girl making that is going to do cup cakes to surround the cake and they will be gluten free. I think we have all bases covered so there will be something for everyone and I'm sure no one will leave hungry! It will be served informally on the tables and everyone will help themselves.......we are hoping it will feel like a huge family meal with plenty of interaction between the guests.
I do admire you for doing this for four daughters! So much work but I know it was done with love. This is my third as I did it for my niece as well including doing all the sewing for the bridesmaids and the ties and cumberbands for the men that matched the girls. She also got ready at my house when we lived in the city, as it was closer to the venue and bigger than hers. I remember doing last minute alterations to one of the bridesmaids dress as she failed to tell me she was pregnant and her shape changed a bit from the fitting.........you know how it is......lol. No matter, I didn't get too much sleep that night but the wedding went off without a hitch and was lovely even if I say so myself.........lol.
Oh Kathy! Your poor daughter! What a shock! So glad that hubby #2 is a normal heterosexual man for her. I'm sitting here chuckling over you saying your kitchen is hot as I'm moving things around in mine so I can install a combustion fire to warm mine up as its so cold!........lol. DH has a small one down in the shop that he never lights so I told him it would do much better at home and funnily enough, he agreed........lol. Do hope you cooking gets done so you can get it all frozen and ready to go.
Lisa, my son died before he tied the knot so I never got the chance to be mother of the groom........I would think that would be so much more relaxing.........lol.......at least you would have gotten the chance to really enjoy the wedding without all the stress........lucky you.
Talking about moving things in my kitchen, I have to take out some shelves and put in a cupboard so when I was in the city I went tonIkea and bought a flat pack one.........now all I have to do is put it together but I need to clear the shelves and move the old ones out first..........ho hum.......a woman's work is never done, particularly when she gets some silly idea like trying to warm thing up. This woman sort of forgets that one little thing always leads to another and before I know it that project has turned into a massiv thing.......sigh!
Have a great day all!
Love n hugs. Chrissy -
Just where are you putting the cupboard Chrissy???. Think the fire would be a great idea though as your kitchen could get very cold in the winter.
We have had two weddings both very different. DD2 had hers at the cathedral and because she sang in the choir it was the full works and very lovely. We had afternoon tea for about 300, had wedding cake and champagne as well. Then we had about 70 for a fairly informal meal and dance which was great fun except it was one of the hottest days of the year. We did most of the organising and did all the flowers etc. And this year DS got married - only about 50 guests, married at the venue then an incredible sit down meal. I did the flowers at thre venue but it was lovely to go and not do a lot. DS and Dil wanted it that way for everyone.
HAving a coffee before tidying up as we ahve cousins coming over for a meal. We have decided to buy chinese so not too much to do other than vacuum as there is sewing stuff all over the floor.
-
Aly, do you remember the long set of shelves behind the door as you come in? Well, those shelves are being retired to the shop as behind them there is already tiles for a fire so I don't have to do anything there. The cupboard will fit between the edge of the tiles and the little window so basically the same area just a different configuration. The cupboard I got I am able to put a spice drawer in so that's a good thing and I can get extra shelves should I need. All the things that are presently on those shelves either have to fit in the new cupboard or get tossed.......lol......so I will be using the space wisely.
Your DDs wedding sounds just beautiful, a real fairy tale! I saw some of the pics you posted of your DS and that was lovely also just different. Oh! Hope you get that quilting done! Girl that's some quilt! Done forget to post a pic when you are done.
Taking a break from the building and back to finishing the dream catchers!
Love n hugs. Chrissy -
Chrissy,
Now what would I have to do to get an invitation to that reception? It is only 9:30 am here and I have already had breakfast but I can taste your dinner, especially the antipasto. Although diabetic, I know I would be tempted to try a little dessert too, especially if you will be serving Italian rum cake which seems to be a staple at Italian weddings in my area - oops almost forgot, I used to have a taste for cannolis too. I can probably put a few pounds on just thinking of your menu.
Although we have had four daughter's wedding, I don't sew so certainly didn't do anything like the wonderful things you have done.
Don't forget to post pictures of your outfit once you get that worked out. I was always last minute for shopping as for each wedding I planned on losing some weight but, as the day would approach, I would realize that wasn't going to happen, and off I would run to the mall.

Ok ladies...look what we saw on our day cruise on a Navy guided missle destroyer Friday..the
ship from the Movie " Master and Commander"
-
Such a beautiful ship! What a sight to see it under sail! Fabulous! I saw it while on my travels but it was dockside with sails furled.......still very impressive!
Marianne, do you have your flight booked!........lol.
Today has been spent doing more of the dream catchers........28 complete, twelve to go. I can't say I'm going to be sorry to see the last of them done as they seem to be taking forever to complete........or maybe I've just about had enough........lol.
Thank goodness for quick meals! At least we eat right while all this prep is being done.
Have a great day girls!

To all, we all have discussed chemo/ anethesia brain. We now can call it anesthesia/chemo/drug brain. This article is in AARP magazine. It discusses the drug classifications that can cause memory loss. It describes why each drug class can cause memory loss. It gives specific names of drugs. It gives alternative drugs that can be substituted. I would suggest reviewing it with your prescribing doc if you have concerns regarding any of your meds. I also suggest you put it in your favorite places on your computer. Also, printing it off for future referrence if you have a printer. Please, pass this on to other BCO friends, friends etc.

Oh they do, Lisa! Beautiful.
We took a cradle to DD's house today, the same one she used when she was a baby. Actually, it was the only place she'd sleep at first and was a gift from her aunt and uncle. Hope DD goes into labor soon since she'll be 40 wks Sunday, but you never know.
Hugs to all.
Kathy

After the American Revolution, my ancestor walked from CT to Albany NY with a cradle and a cow..the cradle stayed in our family and recently our son used it for our grandkids..
-
Oh my, what a treasure that cradle is, Lisa! I know it will stay in the family forever.
Kathy

Lisa, love the flower. We have one in our front yard and it gets taller than everything except the trees.
-
Lisa sure is a gorgeous poppy! I love seeing them in clusters as they gently nod on the breeze......ahhhh!

I am in need of some advice. As I have said before my cancer has returned after almost twelve years with bone mets and now a lesion on the liver. My onc has suggested a chemo combo that I am not quite comfortable with because of my age - 77, although I don't think I look or act like 77, but lately with my mind spinning from having to make such serious decisions I am starting to feel 77. I need to know if any of you in the course of your treatment have decided to get a second opinion and how you approached your onc with this and how he reacted to your decision.
I look forward to all the advice and comments you make.
Marianne
-
Absolutely go for a second or third opinion..any good oncologist or doctor welcome them. I did for my onc, my surgeon, and my radiologist and it is a good thing I did.
-
"I did for my onc, my surgeon, and my radiologist and it is a good thing I did."
Lisa,
why do you say it is a good thing you did?
Marianne
-
the second opinion of my radiologist found a lump the others had missed...the surgeon had a better idea and the oncologist offered a different chemo...for starters.
-
I think getting a second opinion is very common and not resented by the docs. Lots of women on here have gotten second and even third opinions. If they agree, then you may feel better about going ahead with it. And 77 is not old - you're only 4 yrs older than me.
-
Marianne - do get a second opinion if you are uncomfortable with what you oncologist says. If he is a good doctor he will not be upset at the request and he will have recommendations of who else you might see. Some even make the appointment for you. The more information you both have the better your treatment can be.
Hugs, AJ

Dream catchers all complete!.....yay!....finally! I think I have managed to make them all slightly different even if its just the configuration of the beads or their colour. I must admit, they look pretty and should look lovely once they are hung at the venue. Dd came up over the weekend and we went to the restaurant and did the final review of the menu and order of service as well as sorted the availability of the venue for setting up etc. so now that is all done I only have to hire a couple of portable heaters and go sort the fairy lights out at my SILs as we are borrowing what she had for her DDs wedding some years ago.
I've been sorting through stuff I have on the shelves in the kitchen as they are being replaced by a cupboard. I had been just looking at them and wondering how I was going to fit it all but I discovered that I had turned into a hoarder......lol......and now that I have sorted and thrown a lot of stuff I will have no problem fitting it in with room to spare. Can any of you tell me why I would hang onto a coffee machine that did not work when I have a new one that does? Me either so in the bin it went!.........lol. I'm now settled in fron of the fire with a cup of tea in hand and the iPad on my lap.......ahhhhhh! Nice to get off my feet.
Marianne I didn't get a second opinion......back then I was a bit dumb about the whole procedure........but had I found this forum and read the advice given to those in the know, I surely would have done. It's amazing what almost ten years and hindsight with a lot of education can do. It's always good to get the opinions of more than one doc and then you can decide the best path for you and that may be a combination of both opinions.
AJ! Lovely to see you! I keep missing you with my phone calls......lol.....but I will keep trying. I'm just glad you popped your head in to say hi here.
Well I need to go drink my cup of tea before its actually freezing cold.....yuk. Take care all!
Love n hugs. Chrissy -
Chrissy, DH insists on keeping a meat grinder, although we haven't eaten red meat for years. That and all the little plastic things that tomatoes and berries come in. I could see a few, but it's more than that. To be honest, why am I saving some of the material I have on hand. Yards of beige cotton meant for a 3 piece suit back in the 70's for instance.
-
I am married to a hoarder...impossible...
-
Wren:
We live in a condo development that is surrounded by farms owned by Amish and Mennonites. They are always selling produce in those little plastic containers but you have to return the containers when you buy the produce. I always wonder how many of those things they must own. Even if I don't get the containers from them, they sure appreciate getting your used ones.
