I was hoping some of you would like to join me in saying the Rosary. I find it a peaceful time with God,
You can either say the entire rosary or just a decade
each day.

If the directions I have posted are not easy to understand
or if you have things to add please do
Welcome to everyone that would like to

How to pray the rosary

Make the Sign of the Cross
Pray the Apostles Creed
Pray the Our Father
Pray 3 Hail Mary's
Pray a Glory Be
Meditate on the first mystery, and pray one Our Father.
Pray 10 Hail Mary's
Pray the Glory Be and the Fatima Decade Prayer
Meditate on the next mystery, and pray an Our Father.
Repeat Steps 7-10 until all mysteries have been meditated on.
Pray the Hail Holy Queen.
Make the Sign of the Cross

The Prayers of the Holy Rosary ~~~~~~~

I always begin by holding the cross in my right hand and while , doing the sign of the cross
recite..

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

and then by reciting the Apostles' Creed (some prefer to say the Nicene Creed) while meditating on the crucifix.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.
He decended into hell; the third day He arose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty
from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen

Then an introductory Our Father ("The Lord's Prayer") while holding the first bead above the crucifix...

Our Father who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil. Amen.

Now three Hail Mary's (considering the virtues of love, hope and faith) on each of the next three beads....

Hail Mary full of grace
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God
Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Then pray a 'Glory Be....'

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Some groups pray the more modern Glory be...

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen.

Many groups add the Fatima prayer after the Glory Be...

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Your Mercy

Hail Holy Queen
Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us O holy mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

On different days of the week special meditations are added
while praying since today is Friday todays meditaiton is

The Sorrowful Mysteries, to be said on Tuesdays and Fridays:

The Agony in the Garden
Meditation: Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane ... He advanced a little and fell prostrate in prayer. "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass me by." Matthew 26:36-39

The Scourging at the Pillar
Meditation: The people said, "Let his blood be on us and on our children." At that, he released Barabbas to them. Jesus, however, he first had scourged. Matthew 27:25-26

The Crowning with Thorns
Meditation: They stripped off his clothes and wrapped him in a scarlet cloak. Weaving a crown out of thorns, they fixed it on his head ... and began to mock him. Matthew 27:28-29

The Carrying of the Cross
Meditation: Jesus was led away, and carrying the cross by himself, went out to what is called the Place of the Skull. There they crucified him. John 19:16-18

The Crucifixion and Death
Meditation: The curtain in the sanctuary was torn in two, Jesus uttered a loud cry and said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." After this, he expired. Luke 23:45-46

    Thank you so much Patti,
I am sorry if these first posts are so wordy with lots of instructions .

I wanted to be sure, that anyone that wanted to join in, even if it has been awhile or they never had prayed the rosary would be able too. I don't feel you need to be a Catholic to meditate and lift our prayers to the Lord in this way.

I found another rosary on line to show the prayer of each bead, I hope it helps.....

    Carrie:
Like Pattie, I will be most happy to join you in saying a decade of the rosary each day. I will begin next week and am already looking forward to it! It will be nice to unite our prayers and feel that friendship together. I appreciate the instructions, even though I am a life-long Catholic and said the rosary alot as a child/younger person, it is nice to have the review.
    Blessings to all,

    Carrie,
Thank you for posting this. I had asked awhile back if someone could tell me how to pray the rosary. I eventually found it online. My friend recently gave me a Breast Cancer Rosary. She made it of pink pearls.

    I will gladly particpate.

    Again, thanks so much

    First Joyful Mystery

    image

    Luke 1: 26-33, 38
In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary. And coming to her he said: "Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you." But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. Then the angel said to her: "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.". . . Mary said: "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Then the angel departed
    from her.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and
earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was
conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered
under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He

Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed by Thy name, Thy kingdom
come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this
day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we
forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into
temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

    without end. Amen.

O Lord, by your life, death and resurrection,
you have purchased for us the reward of eternal salvation.
    Grant we beseech thee,
that by meditating on these mysteries
of the most holy rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
we may imitate what they contain
    and obtain what they promise;
through the same Christ, Our Lord.
    Amen.

fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle
in them the fire of your love.
    Send forth your spirit and
    they shall be created and
you shall renew the face of the earth.
O God, who didst instruct the hearts
of your faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit,
grant us in that same spirit to be truly wise,
and ever to rejoice in His consolation.
Through the same Christ, our Lord.

    Carrie, Patti, Wildflowers and DebraLynn,
Just finished the rosary and joined with all of you in prayer and friendship. Thank you Carrie, for starting this for us. I wondered if I might ask a small favor too? My daughter, Julie, applied for a position as a Social Worker in the Milwaukee Public Schools. She was supposed to hear by the end of June if she got the postion or not and hasn't heard anything as yet. I wondered if you might all say a little prayer for her that she gets it. Thank you so much.
    Blessings,
    Pat

    Pat,
I am so glad you joined us here.
If you or any one would like to add special prayers
or meditations I think that would be so nice.

God, our Father, I turn to you seeking your divine help and guidance as Julie waits to hear of her employment. She needs your wisdom to guide her footsteps along the right path, and to lead her to find the proper things to say and do in this quest. Help her to use the gifts and talents you have given her, but she needs the opportunity to do so with gainful employment. Do not abandon Julie, dear Father, in this search, but rather grant her this favor we seek for Julie, so that we may return to you with praise and thanksgiving for your gracious assistance. Grant this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

    THE SORROWFUL MYSTERIES
FIRST MYSTERY: The Agony in the Garden. Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Then saith he unto them: "My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me". And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying: "O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt". (Mat 26,36-39). And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. (Luk 22,44)

TODAY WE MEDITATE ON THE GLORIOUS MYSTERIES

    image

FIRST MYSTERY: The Resurrection of Our Lord. In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. And the angel answered and said unto the women: "Fear not ye! For I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here. For he is risen, as he said". (Mat 28,1-6)

Queen of the Holy Rosary, you have designed to come to Fatima and Medjugorje, to reveal to the three shepherd children and six visionaries, the treasures of grace hidden in the Rosary. Inspire my heart with a sincere love of this devotion, in order that by meditating on the Mysteries of our Redemption which are recalled in it, I may obtain peace for the world, the conversion of sinners, and the favor which I ask of you in this Rosary (Mention your request). I ask it for the greater glory of God, for your own honor, and for the good of souls, especially for my own. Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and
earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was
conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered

thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the
    hour of our death. Amen.

(4)Hail, Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by (John 14) But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. TODAY WE MEDITATE ON THE SORROWFUL MYSTERIES

SECOND MYSTERY: The Scourging at Pillar. When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor. And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying: "Art thou the King of the Jews?" And Jesus said unto him: "Thou sayest". And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. Then said Pilate unto him:" Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?" And he answered him to never a word Pilate saith unto them: "What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ?" They all say unto him: "Let him be crucified!" And the governor said:" Why, what evil hath he done?" But they cried out the more, saying: "Let him be crucified!" (Mat 27). And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified. (Mar 15,15)

SECOND MYSTERY: The Visitation Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda. And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth. And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost and she spake out with a loud voice, and said: "Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb". ... SECOND MYSTERY: The Ascension of Our Lord. And as they are speaking these things, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith to them, "Peace to you"; being amazed, and becoming affrighted, they were thinking themselves to see a spirit. And he said to them, "Why are ye troubled? and wherefore do reasonings come up in your hearts? see my hands and my feet, that I am he; handle me and see, because a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me having." And having said this, he shewed to them the hands and the feet. ... "And, lo, I do send the promise of my Father upon you, but ye -- abide ye in the city of Jerusalem till ye be clothed with power from on high." And he led them forth without -- unto Bethany, and having lifted up his hands he did bless them, and it came to pass, in his blessing them, he was parted from them, and was borne up to the heaven. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And the angel said unto them: "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. THIRD MYSTERY: The Crowning with Thorns. Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying:" Hail, King of the Jews!" And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. (Mat 27,27-31) Virtue: Courage. Lesson: Courage

TODAY WE MEDITATE ON THE LUMINOUS OR LIGHT MYSTERIES

    image

SECOND MYSTERY: The Wedding of Cana On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine." "Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied, "My time has not yet come." His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now." This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him. (Jn 2,1-12)

FOURTH MYSTERY: The Carrying of the Cross. And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus. And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him. But Jesus turning unto them said: "Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck". ...
