I had my DIEP on Aug 31st and just had my stage II. A few weeks ago I started having these werid feelings in my stomach like muscle spasms. Sometimes it feels almost like I am pregnant and my baby is kicking :) It's not painful but I wonder if this is a sign of my musles slowly coming back.

I had muscle spasms big time after my stage 1, but in a different location.  It was a full two weeks after surgery, but they started during my long road trip home.  I was told it can happen because we're propped into unusual positions on the surgery table.  I'm a giant wienie when it comes to pain, so I called in and received a scrip for muscle relaxers.

My spasms were very painful.  What you're describing sounds different.  Since you're not experiencing pain, is that because it's happening in an area that's been numb since surgery?  Or is it like a twitch?  I've had twitches in my eyes and in my arms, which happens because a nerve somewhere in your body got pinched or irritated.  They're not painful but bothersome and they eventually go away on their own.

Inna, I have the same sensations, in my lower left abdomen only.  They started after my incision was re-opened and cleared of scar tissue from a seroma that didn't drain.  I didn't have them after my first surgery.   I also notice that when I am cold, my entire abdomen tightens up really hard for a few moments at a time.

I understand exactly what you are feeling---it feels just like a baby moving inside.  Did you have muscle repair?  It was done during my second surgery.  I would love to know what this is too!

    Inna,

I had these too after my 1st stage. It wasn't a spasm for me, it was more of a flutter. It felt just like when my babies started moving in the beginning of my pregnancies.

    Hi Sandy,

I did not have muscle repair. My first surgery went very well and incision healed very nicely.

Okay, there are enough of us that I am going to post this on my surgeon's bulletin board and see what he thinks it is.  I thought I was imagining it.

I'm feeling better, knowing these abdominal spasms are not my imagination. My diep procedure was May 24th, and my spasms are like painless contractions.

I had a diep in 2007 and know exactly what you are talking about.  Not painful -but almost the feeling of a baby moving.  In an amusing kind of way, at the time I sort thought of it as feelilng like a star trek alien :-)  The feeling lasted for a time as I healed and them completely went away.  My Ps told lme it was the temporary reaction of the muscle to the surgery.

Yes! I'm having the exact same sensations, spasms in my lower abdomen that feel like pregnancy flutters. I'm 14 months post-tram surgery. I've been really worrying about it as I'm on Tamoxifen so a pregnancy would not be good right now, and I couldn't take a hormonal pregnancy test as Tamo would affect the results. I've been getting fairly regular periods so didn't think it could be pregnancy- but those flutters! Very strange. Glad I found this thread, feeling better now!
