It is amazing how life changes. On our way to Florida, we stopped in Maryland to see my daughters dad. He is stationed here at Andrews AFB. While here, I found out two of my 3 sisters live here! Because of our dad, I haven't seen them or even spoken to them in 16 years! So guess where we are staying. Yep. We have changed our plans and decided to stay in Maryland/VA area. So now I need to find drs in this area. Lol

I need a new breast surgeon for check ups and an awesome plastic surgeon! Any and all recommendations would be helpful! Oh and any advice on how to deal with these Mosquitos will be awesome! Their bites and my Lymphedema are not getting along!

I had all my surgeries done at the Hopkins' Avon Breast Center in Baltimore.  It was about an hour and a half away from me, but the drive was more than worth it as far as I'm concerned.  I had a delayed DIEP and am extremely pleased with the results.  The hospital rooms I stayed in were all private, and they even had a fold out sofa that my husband could stay on overnight so he could be with me.  Only one negative about Hopkins - they are woefully ignorant about lymphedema and tend to downplay patient concerns.  I've been doing my best to educate them over the years with hand outs from the Step Up Speak Out LE site and other sites, but I'm not sure how much has gotten through.  Since you have LE already, go in there armed and ready to be assertive.

I've also heard good things about Mercy Hospital in Baltimore.  Also, if you're near Rockville, PM me and I'll send you the name of my fabulous MO.

    Good luck!

Thank you! I am on Andrews AFB so I am about 25 miles from Rockville. It is really stressing me out having to find new doctors. On the plus side, my LE seems to be under control since my chemo ended. I think it was last summer that I had to wrap or wear my sleeve. So far so good!

Welcome to the area. For your lymphedema I cannot recommend Mercy in downtown Baltimore highly enough. I originaly had treatment at GBMC which was adequate, but the staff at Mercy is a whole other universe of competency and care. I remain at GBMC for all other cancer-related care and consult Hopkins regularly for second opinions. Best of luck to you.
