Checking in to see if any news on MIchelle! I am thinking of you!

Lacey- I am sorry about your DM- Those anniversarys of there passing is very hard. Sending hugs to you. Glad you got your BLT (finally) Yay!

Laurie- Your dinner for your friend sounds yummy. Love eggplant especially when it's fresh like that.

Minus- Sorry about your recurrance, I didn't know since I havn't been on to much lately. I hope you have good results with your tx's

Luvmygoats- I echo what the others said about having a clean mamo.

Eric- There are dozens of fires here in Oregon and one in particular is the largest in the nation in Douglas Co. and that many fire fighters and help was coming and one of the places was Arizonia was wondering if you might be called?

Was planning on driving to see my dad Thursday but was told that the smoke and ash is terrible that you can't see the neighbors homes and the cars were full of ash, So with my asthma I was thinking I should wait until the air cleared, that it was very dangerous and the air quality was bad. Still trying to decide what to do guess I will wait until tomorrow to see if it is better.

Bedo- Had to chuckle about the " Odds are good" But the "Goods are Odd" too cute! You are very adventurous, Alaska is quite a ways from home for you, would love to go some day.

Hugs to everyone and thinking of all those dealing with sad news right now.

I made the granddaddy of all BLT's   Used homemade Amish bread, their homegrown tomatos and pepper bacon.  Used a fire roasted chipotle dip mix in the mayo....very, very good but the bread was so large I could only eat half a sandwhich.  Hubby ate the remainder.  Had some leftover mac n cheese and some leftover stirfried veges, zucchini, onion , tomato...soo  mixed them together for a side.

Tomorrow I will leave work early to attend my Dads onco appt. Mom, Dad, my sis and I all in the same onc office that we have all attended for treatment at one time or another. Genetics? Ya think? I dont have a prayer in hell with these kind of odds.

Bedo Alaska? You are so adventurous.  My in-laws always said that their Alaskan cruise was one of the best trips they were ever on (and they travelled all over the world)

Tonight may be grilled pork chops with grilled pineapple....if we are home.

    Lacey,

If you choose the BLT at home method, a drive up to Karl's Sausage Kitchen for their bacon is well worth your time. They smoke it in house, and will slice it to order at the thickness you want. At $6.99 a pound, it is a bargain. They have a small cafe now [new building] and the soups, etc are delicious. When I eat there on my own, I get a soup with some bread. When husband is in tow, we split a sandwich and a cucumber salad.

I am on the outer Cape right now. We went out to dinner last night at an expensive, but not great, restaurant. I mean it wasn't bad, but I expect a bit more for those prices. Tonight, we will grill up the prime Steaks we brought with a big ole salad. Tomorrow night is some bluefish on the grill that our hostess caught yesterday.

I am so jealous of all of you who can eat wheat.  I can't tell you how much I miss it!!  Macaroni and cheese was one of my favorites.  I tried a gluten free one, but it just wasn't the same....  There is a rice bread that we've found we like - but I miss a nice soft dark rye - not to mention ordering a sandwich at a restaurant!

Luvmygoats - he fishes primarily for salmon.  He and his brother went out last night and caught two.  He's taking his other brother out tonight.  So we'll have fish for dinner for a few days.  I've been trying to talk him into breaking out the weber (my favorite way of cooking fish), but living in this townhouse it's much more difficult to barbecue.  I'll be sooo glad when the house closes and we can start moving in.  I am ssssoooooo done with living here!!

Gardengumby - OHH fresh salmon. Don't think I've ever had it. Most of our fish even at Albertsons/Krogers is thawed frozen. Now the hoity-toity Central Market is another thing but I could not afford it often. That and its 45 minutes away. We do have a wonderful cooler called a Yeti that DH won in a raffle that I load up with frozen blue blocks. That and for a while I was on mail order meds only and my glaucoma eyedrops came with lovely ice packs. So even on these 100+ days I can get at least refrig. stuff and keep for sev. hours.

Have you tried a giant health food store for gluten free? We have one in FW that has a wonderful food section and also a great frozen section. I know there are several kinds out there. Prob. just trial and error. Maybe making small batch so only waste would be the unused pasta. Seems to be plenty of recipes to google - even Martha Stewart. Sorry you have to go thru this but I know you say you feel better wheat free. And Whole Foods I bet has a bunch. It is just too far away from me so I never go there. Central Mkt, Trader Joes and Sprouts are within 4 miles of each other on westside. Plus the health food store. Once you find a brand you like I would think you could mail order if the drive is too far.

So far from my measly garden I've gotten 4 peppers and about 1/2 dozen peaches. I think I'm in the market for a new fruit tree this fall. Texas is so weird - drought/hot or late freezes or not enough chilling to set fruit (less likely). I had good long talk with fig bush. Hope the nubs I'm seeing are figs and just not new leaves. Darn it.

Tonight will be the sausage/squash stir fry but I've got to start eating earlier than when DH comes home. I think - well know - that eating at 10 pm is worsening my weight. He is not picky if it is hot/fresh as long as it's edible.

luvmygoats - my DD would be jealous of your Yeti cooler!  All of the serious anglers in Florida have Yeti coolers that they use on their boats - eventually she will end up with one, but she will probably try to figure out a way to be sponsored by them first - she already managed to get a free Yeti hat.  What is your recipe for the sausage and squash stir-fry?  I sometimes do a sausage stuffed acorn squash in the fall.

    Goats, congratulations on lefty!

Debbie, I hope that your Dad is doing better and that things are going better for you and Chuck too.

Carrie, I hope that your Dad's appt went OK.

No more yellow squash! Stoooppppp! I have to figure out a casserole. Fat chance. Too lazy.  I'll just boil them in the microwave and smash them with butter, salt and pepper. Now to find a recipe for beet greens vegetarian. I truely have to, clean up this place, practice vibrato, go to garden, print off AK renewal form. Buy some groceries.

This is the first time I've heard of a yeti cooler....sounds cool!

Garden, I hope you are settled in your new house soon too. You have been very busy in the house hunting dept these last few months, so I vicariously look forward to you being in that new lovely ranch. Good luck with it!

I would love to have really fresh salmon. Here we have mostly access to freshly caught bluefish (from which I now get hives on my lips ....guess I had my quota a few years back) and sea bass which is so yummy along with cod, monkfish, etc. I grew up fishing at the Jersey shore and we mainly had flounder there. Kinda makes me want to go fishing again.....we had a maiden aunt who always took us ocean fishing on charter boats....a nice memory of a loving aunt.

Susan, thanks for that advice. DH really wants to try that bacon from Karl's...will check out where it is. Fun!

Am envying your stay on the outer Cape this week. It is perfect weather for beaching, biking, morning hiking...and sunset dining. Curious about your dinner last evening....there are many spots out there that are popular tho mediocre, but in fairness to restaurants, I can't see many that could hold a candle to your wonderful meals. Each July we enjoy the search for our best meal. Enjoy the steaks and the bluefish!

This morning DH signed up at the fitness center I attend, so we are now both card carrying and attending members! Yay! I think he will enjoy working with the trainer and mixing up his exercise regimen for better results.

Carole, enjoying your travelogue when you have time to post!

Michelle, hope you are having a good day...and that your new treatment is providing relief for you. ((((Hugs))))

Wow Bedo sounds like a busy and a good day. Hope you are feeling well from your recent troubles. Wow - Alaska. We have thought about Alaska, DH's company opening a store there but heck I think we're too old. Now if it was Albuquerque or Santa Fe we'd be in line. LOL. I admire your fortitude. Get mister Google going for squash recipes.

SpecialK - this the recipe. I always up the veggies some. My DH and I love cooked onions. I have made this with 1/2# smoked sausage to decrease fat even more. I have used Birdseye Pepper Stir Fry in the winter when fresh peppers are outrageous here esp. the red/orange ones. It makes great leftovers - jumpups.

Can I just ditto Bedo's post? LOL

    I luv you all.

I also luv fresh salmon. Her on Lake Michigan, when my husband is home and goes fishing, that's what I hope he gets, coho or king, don't care. I prefer it to lake trout. Just grill and a bit of soy-lemon butter sauce. Yum. He always fillets them as its so easy to throw on the grill. Any leftovers make a great salad the next day. When my DH lived at home he would fish two to three times a week . Never ran out of salmon. But now, its more of a treat, as he doesn't go out quite as often! LOL Much love to all.

Tonight we are having fresh fish: but this time it's black cod - my personal favorite.  Smile  I'll roll it in rice flour and fry it in butter - which is not my favorite way of having it, but I'm not getting out the grill tonight - I get home too late - and hubby will be fishing late, so I can't coerce him into doing it.  He's going to eat late - I'll probably already be in bed and asleep by the time he gets in.

With it I'll make a green salad and either coconut rice or fried taters' I'm not sure which, yet.  Probably coconut rice, as that re-heats better.

    luvmygoats - thanks!

Tonight is brats, cole slaw, and baked potato salad that I made this morning.  I was so tired from taking care of DD (this is like having a newborn, but instead of eating every four hours she is taking pain meds!) that I fell asleep in the chair out on the lanai this afternoon!

Specialk, is your DD doing any better? Doesn't sound like it. I hate when the kids are sick, and its worse when they are older. Cause then they tell you what's bothering them, OVER AND OVER! LOL good luck!

Special K - I don't know if I will be of any help since are children are at such different ages?  The key for my DS was keep his belly full- scrambled eggs, pancakes, pasta etc and stay on top of the meds.  In the middle day 5 or so he would start to have pain a half hour before he was due for meds- I would give them to him early.  Rock him in the chair and sing to him.  After about 15 minutes the meds would kick in and he would be good for another 4 hours.  Its rough.  Good luck and I hope she feels better soon.

Tomorrow me and the boys are headed to our friends cottage on the lake for the weekend.  DH has to work and will join us Friday night.  Tomorrow I have to get all my cooking, prepping and packing done and hopefully head out for lunch time.  Today was busy doing what I don't know?  Where I was focused on the weekend I did not make dinner tonight.  The boys are having a hard time going to sleep and are still fighting it.  It is almost 9 and we have not eaten as of yet.  Once they are down we will order a pizza and head to bed.  I HATE eating this late at night and being this hungry!

Hugs to all- again- thinking of Michelle.

    Michelle update passed forward:

A lady named Kathryn posted on the thread Susan started about Michelle.  Kathryn had spoken to Michelle by phone over the weekend and said she sounded much better than the week before.  She's looking forward to the wedding and the time with her daughters.  And "chomping at the bit" to get started on her new treatment.  She told Kathryn to tell everyone thanks for the good wishes & she misses everyone.

As for me going to the fires. I'm on call for August. Unless the medical system in an area is being stretched badly, it's not likely that I (really "we") aren't likely to be called.

Minus, thanks for passing on the update on Michelle.

Dinner was half a chicken breast on the foreman, rice with veggies and s salad. I just really wanted to eat veggies. I'm home tomorrow so it should be ok. LOL

    Much love.

I cant beleive Michelle is going to be in my neck of the woods.  Wish I could meet her!

Eric  Hope they get these fires under control and that you are not called.

Did a boat ride last night, looks like we are going to have nothing but rain for the next few days.  So came in late and had tomato sandwiches for dinner. Still gotta use up the pork chops.....wont be tonight cause I work late.

Special    I have always heard how much worse it is to get your tonsils out at a later age.  Hope she gets through this fast so that you can get some sleep and get back to normal.  They are always our babies no matter how old they get and especially when sick.

Hi ho hi ho its off to work I go!

Had a dad emergency the last few days, so not much cooking. He passed out in his apartment and was unconscious for nearly 5 hours. Ended up in the hospital for 3 days, but we brought him home tuesday. Apparently some of his heart medicine caused his heartbeat to slow too much and caused the blackout. He seems to be doing ok now and has had the rx adjusted. Scary stuff when I'm 2 hours away from him.

Back to the kitchen, tonight is gazpacho, jerked pork chops on the grill, grilled corn on the cob and probably some other vegetable, most likely zucchini since I have an abundance.

My apologies for not responding to everyones posts. I do most of my posting on my phone and it's very frustrating sometimes. I would like to join the "ditto" club!

So glad to hear Michelle is doing better!  Yay!

laurie - thanks for the info - she is not super hungry and will only eat a little at a time - I think it is definitely more painful to do this as an adult, but having it done as a little one presents challenges for the mom too!  I can picture you holding and rocking your son and singing, so sweet.  I did manage to 1) sleep in my own bed last night, 2) sleep all night - I put the meds on the bedside table for her with a note.  It worked out fine and she as ok with it.  Progress, right?  I wish she could eat more but it really hurts her.  I have offered her scrambled eggs several times - I thought they would keep her full due to the protein, but she has refused them.  Stouffer's Mac and Cheese is the ticket.  I have to go to the store and get some more.  She has lost nine pounds so far.

moon and carberry - thanks for the good wishes - she seems to be rounding the bend.  She has had some friends come and see her and that cheers her up.

auntie - yikes on your poor dad!  Glad that got all straightened out and I hope he is feeling better. I know what you mean about the distance - both my parents had serious health issues and they were on the other side of the country - so scary! My MIL just had a minor surgery to correct a defect in her knee replacement, came home yesterday in the morning but had a grand mal seizure last night.  She has had an idiopathic seizure issue for many years, they are triggered by panic.  It seems to be ok and she will be seen today I am sure - my FIL (a doctor) and my SIL (a nurse) were there so they didn't rush her to the ER but did consult her neuro on the phone.

Nance, a scare for sure with your dad, so I am glad to hear that he is better.

I may take the next flight to St. Louis to have that yummy sounding dinner!

A wonderful friend who moved to FL several years ago is in town for a visit. I am meeting her and another good friend for lunch at the Cheesecake Factory.....we won't be having cheesecake! DH is out for dinner tonight, so I may be having a veggie/ fruit smoothie then.

By the way, I tried out my new bottom of the line Vita Mix and it makes a perfect smoothie....pulverizes that kale etc. perfectly into a smooth velvety drink....no pieces!!

So for anyone in the market for this pricey muscle machine, there is NO reason to go high end...it is already that!

So good to hear that Michelle is going to be able to enjoy that trip with her daughters. Thanks for posting, Minus! Continued caring thoughts to Michelle.

SpecialK - I meant to tell you, I had my tonsils out when I was 16.  Still younger than your doctor, but it was difficult.  I also had the "everything going up the nose" problem.  Wanted to pass on that my docs said "no" to ice cream - said that milk was bad, but popsicles good.  Hope she's doing better.

gardengumby - She doesn't seem to want any ice cream - so this means that DH and I are eating it - bad!  She has been eating some popsicles that I have cut off the stick.  She has thin enamel on her front teeth and doesn't like to bite anything cold, so this seems to work.  She was really worried about the nose thing because it can be permanent in rare instances, but it seems to be dissipating, thank goodness!

Ok, I'm not there, so I can't eat it, but based on what the newest Wisconsin State Fair Food is, I want it!

Did I pique your taste buds? Ok, here goes, peanut butter and Bacon doughnut bites with jelly dipping sauce.... Uh, huh. Had you all at and Bacon, right?! LOL

Sadly, dinner tonite was the rest of the grilled chicken breast and veggie rice. Sigh.

Moon - Sounds yum. Much like the Texas State Fair always has some new signature fried item. Your weather might be conducive to eating fried things.

I was looking at Torani syrups. Been making ginger green tea with a splash of raspberry syrup. Yes, Torani has bacon flavored syrup. What in the heck would you make with that? Understand fruit, nut, sweet things but bacon. Oh and Chicken 'n Waffles. Torani suggests cocktails for the bacon syrup. Chicken 'n Waffles over cornbread, biscuits which I can possibly see. My fav. over biscuits is Steen's syrup. I love deep dark sorghum syrup.

So glad to hear that Michelle is going to the wedding this weekend. Sending my love and best wishes. Thanks Minus Two for posting this.
