Ovarian mass 4.5 centimeters!
Hi everyone - just a question if anyone knows where to find information regarding links between breast and ovarian cancers. During a PET scan the other day, a 4.5 centimeter mass was found on one of my ovaries.... doctor says it MIGHT be a cyst but from all I have been able to find - this doesn't seem like a good thing. Any ideas where to find more information would be so helpful! thank you!!

Hello
Three years after my mother had BC she had some stomach issues. They scanned her and found what they thought was cancer. When they operated on it , it turned out to be a cyst but underneath there were some pre cancerous cells. They did a full hysterectomy and 20 years later she is still doing well. If you search the boards here you will see that us BC ladies seem to have many growth, nodules, cysts and polyps that the rest of the world has but never knows about! Have you had a transvaginal ultrasound? That might give a better idea of what it is. Take care! -
Cysts are incredibly common but ovarian cancer is also part of the BRCA syndrome as well as some other familial genetic syndromes that increase breast & ovarian cancer risk. Have you had genetic testing?

jerseygirl,
I am currently under investigation for an ovarian cyst that I have had over a year now. A new gynae requested a TV US. That was done and he is still unsure what it is, he does not think it the common haemorragic cyst.
So he has requested the CA125 that I have had done and I am awaiting an MRI scan.
The cyst-thing is over 6cm and not self-resoving as most do he tells me. So he wants it out and the other ovary too.
Another MRI that must total about 6 in the last year!
What is planned for you? further investigation?

Hi JerseyGirl, I have had ovarian cysts on and off for the past year (I was dxed with BC in 2010, premenopausal and am on tamoxifen.) I had a series of CA 125 tests which were elevated at first and then normalized even though I continued to have cysts (monitored by U/S). I have had them up to 5 cm and they resolved.
