July 1st I recieved the news that my BC has come back to visit on my right side(3 years ago I had a lumpectomy done on my left side did chemo & radiation) I plan to have a billaterail mastecomy with expanders and possibly a back flap on the left side to cover the dead skin caused by radiation on Sept. 10...this time around Im estrogene+ guess thats good news since last time around I was negative...still HER2+ (Never got treated for HER2 the first time due to having a weak heart..hearts good this time around Sealed) Im just worried about the mastectomy...ugh and thoses dreaded drains!!! Oh and the top of my sundae is 3 weeks before finding out cancer came back I had my portacath removed!! My surgeon is saying picc line for a bit then a port later on...any info on how a picc line is I would love to hear it...or should I just tell them I want my port back?? Its good to have a board like this to vent and talk to ladies that know what Im going thru...God Bless and Lets stay strong Ladies!!

so sorry you are dealing with this crap again...good news that you are able to get Herceptin this time around. I had a port but my friend had a picc line and said it was fine.  You will need something because with an enitre year of H infusions your viens will be shot.  Not sure if they can put a port back in the same spot - why a picc then a port?

I had a double with lat flap on the rads side - i seem to be a unique case in that ive had a lot of pain issues but lots of women have this surgery and do well.  There is an entire thread on the breast reconstruction forum on this surgery, you will get a lot of info there -

good thing is that this time around you will be given an anti-hormonal (tamox or AI)after treatment which is another thing that us triple positives have in our arsenal

Oh I'm so sorry u'r here again--I don't know about a pic line but if u end up with a port find out about a power port/ I know very little but I do know haveing a mastectomy is not painful, the drains are aggrevating but I think a lumpectomy has more pain than the other--I was shocked actually so was my sister--we were waiting for it to hurt and never did so that parts good. Good Luck

If you've had lymph nodes removed from both sides, a PICC line might not be a good idea. Or any type of IV in either arm. Not sure about ports.
