So...whats for dinner?
Comments
-
my very thought!!!
-
Dh is going to be late again tonight. DS1 is having a tuna sandwich, DS2 chicken nuggets. I will search for food with DH when he makes it home and come up with something for both of us.
I hate not having a real dinner.
Michelle- Thinking of you.
-
Hello and hugs to all. Not much is the way of dinner making at my house - DD had tonsils out yesterday and is not doing well. One (or both, plus the antibiotic) is making her vomit - not good after tonsil surgery! So she is also in pain because she can't keep the pain meds down. The doc called in a scrip for Zofran - shades of chemo.... Hopefully it will do the trick, it did not work for me at all. DH is not home from work yet, but has tomorrow and the weekend off. This is only day 2 of nurse duty and I am already exhausted!
-
Special K- So sorry about your DD. DS1 had his out a little over a year ago at age 4. Pancakes were a huge hit with him and easy to swallow. He ate a lot of them and it helped to absorbe the meds etc. Worth a try? I hate to say it but it will get worse before it gets better- day 4 for him was hard. When the scabs come off
I will share as much/little info as you want from my experience. It is so hard watching your child suffer . -
Special K - wow, you have your hands full. I know it's not easy but the ABT on an empty stomach is probably making it worse. Can she keep anything down? I know you know to watch for dehydration. Pinch the skin on the back of the hand and watch to see how quickly it returns to normal position. I have difficulty tolerating once a day ABT; they give me a stomachache and not even having had tonsils out. Hopefully the Zofran will work for her. Moms - what would kids do without us? I had to make a flying visit to my sick DD on July 4th - a little over an hour away. Brought strawberry limeade and french fries from Sonic and went to Dr. with her next day for moral support. Hope you get some Special K time for yourself. Can DH spell your with DD? Mine was good at fetching things, not so good at cleaning up things. LOL.
Hoping we hear from Michelle soon.
-
Luv, I was wondering if anyone has heard from/about Michelle. A little concerned.
-
Hello everone...busy, busy week here. My Dad has been diagnosed with large cell carcinoma of the lung. sees the oncologist next week. Not sure what they will recommend or if Dad will agree to any treatment.
Best friends Mom passed away.. wake was on Wed night. And a very, very good friend from long ago contacted me ( we guessed about 26 years) and we got together after work tonight...beer and lots of laughs about our crazy antics when we were young.
Speaking of BLT's...I ordered one from a deli near my workplace for lunch today...and it was peppered bacon with lettuce and a spicey tomato jelly, instead of sliced tomatos and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. i still prefer real tomatos, but this was different.
Sticking close to my e-mail as DD is traveling to Italy, India, and Hong Kong for her job and some fun. She is presently in India, staying in a palace that her company arranged for her. Wonderfrul opportunity for her, but giving me some gray hairs as she is travelling alone.
Happy weekend everyone. Special hugs to Michelle... think of you every day.
-
Carberry, sorry about your dad, and your friends mom.
SpecialLk, hope your DD recovers quickly. Makes my throat sore just thinking about it.
Susan, that's a lotta meatballs!
Anyone hear from Michelle? Let us know.
I just got a nice basket of blueberries from the farm, my DSIL picked them the day she drooped them off. I ate a BIG bowl. Probably not a great idea because I am still having gastric issues. Ahem. But they were SOOOO GOOD! guess I may have to freeze them for a bit. LOL. -
SpecialK, I hope your DD recovers soon. Not an easy gig for either of you with her being so sick.I can relate since I had my tonsils out at age 27....no picnic for sure. Hope the meds provides relief!
Carrie, so sorry to learn of your Dad's dx. I hope if he decides on treatment, it is gentle on him. How "fun" to get together with a friend from years past. Those kinds of re-connections are priceless! What a wonderful experience for your DD....tho of course it is always a mother's worry to have a daughter traveling so far independently. Kudos to her!! I bet you will see some nice gifts from Hong Kong!
Yesterday I started PT for my shoulder pain ( brought on by my stretching and exercise program;). I learned that my poor posture has mainly caused my shoulder to move improperly, making it vulnerable to such tendon problems with all the stretching I now do. Today I awoke feeling I'd been hit by a mac truck after starting the new stretching program set up by the PT. DH insisted he felt awful too and that it was just the lousy, cold rainy weather. I hope so since I want to get back to BOTH my regimens tomorrow...and the weather seems better here in NH where we landed tonight. I have been happy with the results of my training sessions and reupped now for the paid sessions....still very reasonable to see a medically attuned trainer weekly and have a great gym available daily at $60 for two months.
Interesting BLT variation, Carrie. I have yet to get my fix...the new restaurant we tried last night had none on their menu, and I settled for a very unexciting cod, broccoli and rice plate.
Monica, love that you got a glut of blueberries. Enjoy! And freeze if they get to be too much fiber.
Susan, your "meatball" event cracked me up! Hope the pig gets delivered soon.
I need to get to bed, but when we drive up here at night (I am the night driver) I need time to unwind. Such a nightowl!!
Also thinking of Michelle and hope she is feeling stronger. -
For dinner last night I made chicken cordon bleu, but used pastrami instead of ham (as that's what I had on hand). For the sauce I sauteed some red onion and mushroom, added pinot gris with a little bouillon. After the chicken was cooked I added a little alfredo sauce that I had left over from a couple nights ago. It turned out to be most tasty
. (though you should have seen me pounding the breasts flat - my rolling pin is still packed in the POD, so finally I got creative with the bottom (curved part) edge of a kettle). For sides had rice (which I toasted in a little butter prior to cooking) and a green salad. -
Lacey did so well in making responses that I'm tempted to "ditto" her post!
Carrie, that's depressing news for your dad and family. I hope his outlook has some hope with treatment.
Susan, I'd love to have a half dozen or so of those meatballs! Last night I saw the biggest meatballs I've ever seen. At an Italian restaurant in town called Necce's. The appetizer menu had two large beef and pork meatballs in a marinara sauce. A woman at the next table apparently ordered the meatballs for her entree. They were HUGE and looked good. Dh and I may order that sometime and each take a meatball with a side order of pasta.
I ordered an asparagus lasagne thinking I would get a dish with fresh asparagus. Instead I got a small square baking dish that had lots of melted cheese and alfredo sauce and some flat pasta pieces that seemed home-made and just bits of green that might have been the asparagus. Tasty and super rich but not what I expected.
Tonight's dinner will be chicken breasts pounded thin and breaded and browned in small amt of EVOO and butter. Fresh flat beans purchases at the farmers' mkt on Wed. Steamed in chicken broth with new potatoes.
It's COOL here in northern MN. Today's attire is jeans and long-sleeved tee and a windbreaker for outdoors. I love it. Tonight's temp. may be a record-breaker at 41 degrees. We'll have to get out a fleece blanket.
Had my hair trimmed and the roots colored today at a salon Park Rapids and the young woman did a great job. Not always the way it turns out with a new stylist who doesn't know my hair quirks.
I, too, am worried about Michelle. I wish her daughter would come on with some encouraging news.
Hugs to all.
-
I agree- I want to Ditto Lacey's post. Lacey I love that you are a night owl like me. I always check to see if you post before I go to bed.

Garden- That was quite the visual of the chicken pounding! You had me laughing! When I don't want to deal with pounding chicken I butterfly it
Carol- Sounds like your trip is going so well! Glad your hair turned out great and the meatballs sound so yummy. I am hungry right now.
I too hope Michelle or her daughter post soon to let us know how she is doing- I am getting worried. She is not posting on Facebook either.
Today I re-did an old girls skatboard for DS1. It was pink with flowers- I spray painted it black, put Spider Man decals on it and am not putting a clear coat seal on it. Total cost-$8. He will be so excited when it is done! Then I have to make over another old board fr DS2 tomorrow.
Last night we finally ate dinner around 10- turkey sandwiches with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle. DH says he will be home for dinner tonight. Because of the rain I am going to do shake and bake pork chops- I had planned on grilling chicken for Caesar salads- ohwell.
Hugs to everyone.
-
today was Costco shopping, so tonight we're going to have a Costco rotisserie chicken, potato salad, green beans and a bottle of wine.
Hoping to hear good news about Michelle.
Hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm planning on sleeping in tomorrow, then some house cleaning and off to visit friends. The townhouse we're renting is going on the market next week, so I want to get it all spic and span for pictures and showings. It was bad enough living in our own house when it was on the market - I hadn't planned on living in a rental that's on the market.
But our new house should close in like three weeks, so I think it'll be to our good if the townhouse sells quickly (so they let us out of the lease early and we don't have to pay for two places for 4 months.) -
Last night we had clean out fridge eat what you will leftovers. Tonight is some fresh pasta house brand like Buitoni that I froze a few weeks ago. Market was clearing out small jars of Newman's Alfredo sauce, perfect size for the 2.5 servings pasta. Tomorow is chicken thighs in a butter dill sauce (packaged) meant for fish in slow cooker. Maybe - I say that because tomorrow is only going to be about 91 with 102 later in the week. I might see how long chicken is good for - fresh yesterday - and wait until maybe Tues and cook in the oven tomorrow. I hate to freeze it just to thaw it out. I admit that I shop the meat, dairy and bakery clearance items first. I am picky and check dates on everything. DH wanted to know why we have 1/2 gallon of milk; replied I just couldn't beat the price and please use it up first.
Laurie - I'm a Shake 'N Bake girl too. I use the pork ones to bake chicken. Seems like it has a better flavor. Maybe that's what I'll do tomorrow with 1/2 of the thighs. Good plan.
-
Carrie- Sorry to hear about your dads DX I was hoping it was scar tissue or something less serious. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
Specialk- I still remember getting my tonsils out and how bad I felt and I was 10 yrs old, I remember that the only thing I could eat was popcycles for a while. Hope she gets well soon.
Lacey- I posted the other night but lost it, but I had to laugh at your adventure of looking for a BLT. You would think any place that has bacon and bread, tomatoes and lettuce could whip you one up even if it's not on the menu. But I had been craving one since reading your post so this morning I made bacon and eggs with hashbrowns, made extra bacon so for lunch had a BLT- It was very good. I think home made ones are much better :-))
Laurie- Hows your DH doing? Seems like every one is having a lot of things going on this year.
Joyce- Havn't seen anything from you in a long time, if your reading just know I have been thinking of you. I know how close you and Michelle are. Sending you Hugs!
Deb- Sending you big hugs as well!
Thinking of you Michelle.
I did see her DD posted Tuesday on Michelles FB showing a dinner out at a mexican restaurant. I looked at her pictures again, and giggled at all her cute cosutmes she wore during the holidays I especially love the bunny outfit on her she looks so cute.
My dad is not doing well at all, His home nurse said he won't make it til his bd which is November 9th. We had planned a big 80th BD party for him, I am still going to plan it because no one knows not even the DR. or Nurses.
Big hugs to everyone!

Hi Ladies,
I'm afraid my mom (Michelle/LuvRVing) isn't recovering as well as we hoped. She's still pretty weak. She's not getting on her computer at all, which is something she's done pretty much every day since laptops exhisted, so it's odd to show up at her place and see her sort of vaguely watching tv. She's been on a lot of steroids and it seems to be helping with her appetite. My step-father is making sure she gets her Zofran ragularly and that helps, but her appetite is spotty at best. She's also working with a physical therapist a couple times a week because she's unable to walk unaided and dragging her right foot when she walks.
Okay, the really bad news. She has a largish mass on her liver, and a small spot on her lumbar. We were hoping that even though her tumor markers had gone up a bit, she could still take a chemo break and recover some strength. Instead, she's wanting to jump right back in for fear of giving the cancer yet another inch. The radiologist and oncologist have decided that the next step is to try Navelbine and Avastin. The Avastin is specifically to target the mets still in her brain. I believe she'll do Navelbine for 2 weeks and then Avastin for 1, then take a week off.
My cousin's wedding shower is in Rochester, NY, next weekend, so she's agreed to wait at least until after that trip. My sister and I will be taking her while my step-father works on moving them out of their dear lake house with it's many many stairs and into a first floor two bedroom apartment that will be easier for my mom to navigate. Needless to say, we are all upset to learn that yet another treatment has failed and that mom's tenacious cancer just will not give us the time we need. As mom said recently, I feel like the window is closing.

:-(
Eric -
Lovingmymom- Thank you so much for giving us an update on your Mom. Even if it isn't good news. We all care for her very much and worry for her and you and your family. I will continue to pray for her and think positive thoughts. She is an amazing, strong woman with a lot of fight left in her with an amazing family for support. I am sad to hear she is giving up the lake house as I know she loves it so much. ((((((HUGS))))))) and I agree with Eric :-(
-
Oh LovMyMom, I am so sorry. Hugs and Prayers.
-
Thank you for posting such a difficult post LuvMyMom. I know you wish deeply that you had better news for us. To give up that lovely lake house.... your step-father deserves some kudos. It will be a hard job to leave a place where they have been so happy. I hope that avastin and the navy bean do their job and do it well.
My best thoughts,
*susan*
-
Lovingmymom- I am so sorry to hear your mom is not doing well. We all love her so much here. Sad to hear she will have to move I know she loved the lake house. But I know it will be much easier on her. Michelle and all of your family are in my thoughts and prayers. "-((
-
I can only echo what the others have said so well. Michelle and your family will be in my heart and prayers.
-
Though it may be out of place- how will any of us sleep tonight? Between worrying of Michelle, Debbie's Dad, Chuck. Carrie's father, Deb losing her DH etc etc......my heart is breaking for the struggle everyone is going through. I have a heavy heart tonight.
-
Also- I don't mean to give the brush off of etc etc... there is just soo much love and sadness right now I don't mean to miss anyone with what they are dealing with in their lives. This was supposed to be a dinner thread but has become so much more. I am thankful for that.
-
Laurie: You're right on target. More praying than sleeping will go on tonight for all facing new or continuing trials. And I agree that this thread is one of my mainstays. It's the first one I check every day.
-
Oh dear....just opened the thread before heading to bed and saw the news on Michelle. Thank you, Lovin, for the update, a painful one that is nothing that any of us want to hear. Your mom is such a special person to so many on this thread and in so many other places. Even DH asked me while we were driving to a play tonight, if I'd heard how Michelle was doing and commented on her strength. I feel hope given Michelle's spirit, tenacity and her amazing ability to work so intelligently with her medical team. But I am truly pissed at this DAMN DISEASE and what it is putting your family through!! Caring thoughts to all of you dealing on the front lines with this monster!
And Debbie, plan away for that party! ((((HUGS))))
Another time I'll chronicle my ridiculous saga of the BLT search.....
Nite all.... -
Lovin, prayers for all your family. Thank you for updating us. Your Mom is special, and we all love her. Blessings.
-
Oh lovinmymom, this is such sad news. I'm so sorry. As Susan said, let's hope the new treatment does it's job and your mom is back on her feet.
Debbie, Deb, Carrie and Laurie, sending you all some (((hugs))) too. Oh what the hell, hugs for (((everybody)))! -
I am just crushed about Michelle's status update. However, the pig arrived and must be dealt with. I am curing some breakfast sausage and will grind and stuff today. The pork belly is curing in lots of good stuff and will be turned into bacon in about 10-days. The chops have all been sent to the freezer in their little vacuum-packed homes. And then I collapsed. Today I need to vacuum pack more of the larger cuts after confirming that they are cut the way I want them, the fats, start curing the hocks and jowl, and generally get stuff moved towards the freezer. I am considering making pancetta out of the rib bacon just need to see if we can sacrifice an old dorm fridge to the project. I only ask those kinds of question on days that everyone [i.e. husband] is in a really good mood!
Lacey, and this is my yearly thing-- to make a BLT where I have made ALL the components. Make the bread, grow the lettuce, my own bacon, and of course, tomatoes from the garden, with homemade mayo. My husband thinks this is a silly use of time, but it makes me happy.

Susan, as ever, you are my idol.
