Bone Scan and Terrified

HI there, I have high alk phos levels as well, had many bone scans , CAT scans etc. No bone mets.  Here is a list of other things that can cause high alk Phos that should be examined as well.

The article talks about hormone issues, gall blader, infections, many other things, praying it's one of these and not cancer.

Lola, Hi ALTs could be due to a lot of things.  Mine go up and down all the time.  When I was having chemo a few years ago they spiked causing lots of tests, nothing found.  Eventually they just decided I had Gilbert's Disease.

Scans can be anxiety-provoking, but in this case it sounds like your doctor doesn't want you to borrow trouble.  I second that approach.

In any case it will all be done very soon and you should have good news.

Yes, for anyone reading this thread in the future, always tell the techs if you have injured yourself. I had a bone scan earlier this year after being dx stage IV by liver biopsy. A short time before the scan was done, I was pruning a rosebush in my mom's back yard and accidentally smacked my wrist really hard on a branch, raising quite a big bump. I mentioned this to the techs and they said it was a good thing I told them. I assume from this that the injury could have shown up on the scan, but because they knew about the injury it was known not to be mets. Other than anything they may have seen from that wrist bump, my bone scan was clear. I'm glad to hear yours was too!

Hi ladies. This is my first time posting. My GI has been concerned about my AlkPhos escalating, and ordered an abdominal CT last month which came back clear. But the number keeps rising, so he requested that my MO order a bone scan. I had it done last Thursday, and thought I might hear results this week. When I called the MO's office, I was told that the results won't be in for three weeks. I have my 6-month MO check up in a month, so I was told I will get the results then. Does it usually take this long for bone scan results?

Thanks for your response.  I liked your idea, so I called and left a message at the hospital where I had the scan done.  I haven't really gotten to know the front desk personnel at my MO's office, so I don't know if I was talking to someone who really just doesn't know how the process works. I would prefer not to challenge her determination unless I have information that would indicate that the report has already been sent to my MO.  Hoping to hear from the hospital tomorrow!

Hi ladies, I am being booked in for my first bone scan next week. I have had hard lump on right clavicle (cancer side), near sternum for about 6 months. Had xray and got results today. Apparently there are "abnormal"spots on my right shoulder, clavicle and lower spine. My BS is hoping that it is just arthritis and general wear and tear. I am 49 and have never had bone problems before. If scan is inconclusive, she wants me to have MRI. Also have pain in base of skull, so she wants me to see nurologist for another type of scan??

I am looking for some support as I am a 3 year survivor of stage 1 IDC ER/PR+ HER2N-.  My last two alk phos levels have been 145 and 152.  I now have to have a bone scan.  I even went thru chemo just to make sure I killed everything.  Can I really be worried now about bone mets?  Has anyone been diagnosed with bone mets just from an elevated alk phos level??  Any advice or encouragement would be appreciated.

I am so sorry that you have this worry, it never seems to end with us. I know that an elevated alk phos level can be also related to a fatty liver, which is very common. I have a slight fatty liver but clean scans. There are so many things this could be besides mets. Also chemo can sometimes cause strange bloodwork for a long time after.
