Sunnybrook Toronto, surgeon Dr. Look Hong. Opinions?
Hello everyone,
I am new to this website and I really hope I get some results.
I am 35 and was diagnosed on my birthday with breast cancer may 2013. I noticed some lumps, clear breast discharged and tightened in one of my breasts. I was seeing by breast site doctor, Dr. Vivian Yuen, at sunnybrook and she would refuse to send me for mammogram for couple of months since she would not feel anything and she would say all of my lumps and bumps and discharges are due to age and recent weaning of my daughter from breast. Anyways after two clear ultrasound she basically sent me home for good and said to come back by August.
I knew something was not right, in my gut I knew so I insisted to see her again and eventually was given the appointment. She gave me same story of breast milk duct blah blah blah. I said with all do respect please right down on a paper this is not cancer and I will go and never bother you. She said she cannot and with anger she agreed to send me for mammogram which she believed would be very useless. On the day of my mammogram I was told there are two suspicious lump, had biopsy by next week and there it was HER2 positive invasive breast cancer. Thank goodness is not any part of my body and I started my chemo there after two weeks. They could not really give me stage as the lumps themselves are small but are couples of them and they some how effected nipple and some tissue tightness above breast tissue and therefore I guess I would be called locally advance!
I do not care about what name they put for me. It is responding very well to chemo, it is gone by two chemo and after I would have double mastectomy (my gene was negative but I want to insist to removing the other breast) and at the end radiation. They are saying they are doing everything they can to guarantee my cancer will not come back....I am very positive.
So my question is about the surgeon Dr. Nicole Look Hong. I never heard about her and I am so scared of repeated bad experience since mine is harder and is double mastectomy. I asked them to get dr. holloway but they say they are really busy and all surgeons are full and basically I do not have choice of choosing my surgeon. Have anyone ever heard of her please help.
Also please I try to keep myself very positive so no scary negative comment about my stage of cancer.
Thanks to you all

Sorry that you have to join us and that you had to go through a negative experience first. It will help if you tell us where you live. That way, those who live in your area might respond with some info on doctors. This is a very large forum and without a specific location, a name like Sunnybrook will be meaningless to most.
Since you are HER2+, you have had neo-adjuvant chemo. Further info on your bc will be available after surgery and you will probably continue to receive Herceptin. Most of us trade in hope, and reality, when it comes to bc, so you won't see many scary stories. We have all stages and types of bc and are here for support and info, not fear mongering. Wishing you the best. -
Hi,
Sorry for not giving more detail. Sunny brook is in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Thanks -
I think you should put the name of the surgeon you are interested in ( and her location) in the subject line.
You will get more responses.

and file complaint with your medical board against that other doctor. they have to learn notto do this. good thing you listened to your gut:-)

Tafard, we've edited your post's title to make your details and question a little clearer. You might also want to post on the Canadian Breast Cancer survivors to connect with our large and lively Canadian community on BCO.

Though I can't answer your question about this particular doctor, I was In a similar situation. The cancer hospital I was at had this one surgeon that everybody talked about. He was THE best. I didn't see him but saw the newer surgeon, and you know what, she is an angel. I couldn't have asked for a better experience with respect to the surgery. I also had a double mastectomy. You should still do your research on this doctor, but also meet her and see what impression you get. Glad to hear that you're responding well to treatment. Best wishes for continued speedy recovery, (hugs).

TAFARD - i was treated at sunnybrooke - i found everyone on my team to be great - sometimes we didnt see eye to eye but they are skilled/professional and genuinely care. You are at one of the top cancer hospitals - and particularly for breast so I would feel good with any surgeon you have been referred too. I also wanted Hollaway or wright but ended up with Dr Boileau (who has since left) he was an ANGEL!

hi. I just got my clinical diagnosis 2.4cm stage IIa IDC er+ her2+. My surgeon will be Dr.Look Hong but I'm still waiting for a surgery date as at the time they provided me with diagnosis they said they saw 4mm calcification on my left breast so I had to have another biopsy and I guess they're waiting for the results. How long did you have to wait for your surgery and how did you find Dr look hong? They asked me also if I have bone pain..I didn't at the time but now I'm finding that I'm having aches in my lower legs and am worried about bone mets through the bloodstream since at tgis time they didn't see any invasion of lymph nodes. Btw. How are you doing now
