mmmmmm fresh cucumbers and tomatoes, I cannot wait!!

Carrie- Your boating description sounds WONDERFUL!

We had a great time camping.  Very laid back and had a ton of laughs.  The food was super easy and good.  The pulled pork I did turned out great.  We were on the Scao River and did tubing and a lot of swimming.  The boys actually told us it was time for them to go to bed last night, they were exhausted.  We were psyched everyone slept until about 7:30 this morning.  We took our time packing up and I made a big breakfast of eggs, sausage and grilled english muffins, fruit too.

We are truly so lucky to have such wonderful friends and family.

Carol- I told everyone about you and your camping adventure, everyone was jealous!

Michelle- Any new news on the RV?

Eric- Congrats on your DD and driving, exciting!

Tonight we did "family dinner." My kid worked until 6:30 so I knew that she would need a well-balanced meal. The meal was actually pretty darn good. We grilled a flank steak. I made some black beans, avocodo halves filled with pico de gallo, steamed local corn, and for the child who doesn't eat beans or avocado, an orzo salad with basil and sund-dried tomatoes. Oh, and a lettuce salad using the last of the garden lettuce.

The temperatures are rising. So pleased that I have at least three meals in the fridge. Leftovers will be gold this week.

    Keep your fans plugged in!

I guess I got in a rush earlier...the dry stringy beef was when braising it without searing it. I've always noticed a lot of fat atop the braising liquid and the only place it can come from is the meat.

By popular demand, the dinner tonight was the jasmine rice-chicken-pine nuts-onion dish along with a potato salad and "made by mother in law" strawberry shortcake.

I actually did get the sourdough bread made.  The starter is very active.  This dough is not much slower than regular yeast dough.  If the dough turns out not sourddough enough, I may have to cool the dough the next time so it can develop a "more sourer" flavor.  Each starter has its own quirks and since I have two starters in the same place, I'm sure that I will have to adjust as the two starters marry.

Susan,  DD here would be in a quandry if the choice was between you and I made for dinner tonight.  She loves the rice dish and she loves all things avacado.

That is amazing Laurie...young boys admitting they are tired!  I guess that is the "power" of camping! :-)

Hi all.....enjoyed catching up with all the adventures ( from RVing to driving lessons!) and meals.

Back home after a different but enjoyable week in P-town.

We've been going there during this week for over 32 years and usually park ourselves in the sun like beached whales for the week (with nightly treks into town for nice meals) but the weather was not so conducive to beaching, so we bopped around a bit more than usual, enjoying the Provincelands, local town happenings, emerging performing groups and a pay in Wellfleet. It was fun..... tho I have to say it was tough to leave this AM as the sun finally emerged and the temp approached 85.....and even harder when it was 90 degrees here at home. Our fans were quickly employed!

DS2 enjoyed a sunnier time at the lake house with ten friends and three toddlers. He texted us Sat evening to assure us that no one had become injured in our non-child-proof house there, along with a photo of the whole gang having fun on the beach.

Had a lovely dinner at Napi's (P-town restaurant)last evening of shrimp prepared Brazilian style...a very nice marinade along with flavorful rice and beans, a salsa atop, and a fried banana. More interesting than the meal was the conversation we had with our adorable waiter who helped solve my curiosity about a young man whom we had just seen in a Broadway show tunes performance who looked like and carried the surname of a murder suspect in the area from a high profile case several years ago. Turns out the waiter is a peer of the young performer, knows him well and he is indeed the son of the suspect (who was not charged....someone else was.... but the locals have some differing thoughts about it...). This was all a very strange connection to drama from years past in P-town, that I had forgotten about until I saw the striking face of the singer. The waiter is also a performer and told us of a play he will be in next summer, so now we can look forward to seeing that!

Hit the farmer's market once home and got some "early corn" which DH grilled along with our lamb burgers. It was sweet, but not very juicy. I noticed that our local grocery store now makes up lamb burgers, obviously more in demand....but I do like to make my own so I can put fresh garlic and rosemary powder in each pattie.

Susan, would love to know what you do (I assume a marinade?) when grilling flank steak. I rarely make flank steak but would like to use it more. I was even thinking that I might use it for making a braciole recipe (with broccoli rabe, raisins, pine nuts, etc)for that dinner I am scheduled to make in September in Western MA...if I decide on an Italian menu. Meanwhile learning about grilling it would be great.

    Nite all......

TODAY, I used my cast iron pan to cook a petite surloin steak. Actually cooked two, so I would have leftovers. Pretty good for $4.00! Added a handful sugarsnap peas, nuked and a baked potato, also nuked. Half of it for tomorrow. Oh, and do I have to admit I had a Dairy Queen dipped cone? Well, I did and it was yummy. LOL

    Hi Ladies,

This is a quick update for you on my mom LuvRVing (Michelle).  Mom went to the hospital early Thursday morning.  She was very weak and disoriented, and unable to get up.  She was given fluids and Magnesium which seemed to perk her up and she went home that afternoon.  She was back in the hospital all weekend and though they've continued to push Magnesium and give her transfusions she's shown little improvement.  They did release her to go home, but walking is extremely difficult and she has some moments of confusion.  As of right now, it seems like this is a reaction to the Gemzar.  She had an MRI last Monday that looked good, with everything continuing to shrink and no inflamation.  She was supposed to have a PET scan on Tuesday but there was an insurance snafu.  Her last tumor markers test had her at 250, which is slightly higher than her low of 165, but the doctors seem to think her current condition is her intolerance to the chemo.  Unfortunately we had to deal with on call doctors all weekend, so we're hoping for more insight from her oncologist whom she's meeting with on Wed.

Fingers crossed that this is just a bump in the rode, and that with rest and a chemo-break she can regain enough strength to continue her fight.  I know she has so very many of you here routing for her.  Please feel free to repost this in the triple-neg and Stage IV threads.  It's possible mom will be able to read through these in the next day or so, but unlikely she will be up to posting a personal response.

All my best to all of you strong, amazing women.

    Lovinmymom,

Thank you for posting an update on your Mom. I just got back after being away for a couple of weeks and was doing some catching up on posts when I came across yours.

Sorry to hear that the Gemzar may be causing the problems your mom is experiencing. It was doing such a great job in knocking back those tumor markers. Hoping this is just a bump in the road.

    Michelle,

Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers! Dealing with the on-call docs never gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. Hoping that your appt tomorrow sheds some light on what's going on and where to go from here. Will be thinking of you! Strength and healing thoughts from NY.....

Hello all - have not posted in a couple of weeks as I have been without internet in Germany and Austria.  Had a great trip - here is my only "food porn" shot.  Yes, I was drinking beer and eating apple strudel at the same time, I admit it!  Returned home to a broken air-conditioner, it has been 85 degrees in my bedroom for the last 48 hours.  Finally got it fixed this afternoon, right after the visit to the dentist!  Fun!

Praying for Michelle to bounce back, thinking of you all and hoping everyone is hanging in there!

    (((EVERYONE)))

Had a date with my cuz David whom I have not seen since my Dad passed away, that was over a year ago.  He I was sad that he opened my email too late when I told him that my DH passed away.

We met up at Fishbones in Chelmsford, had a nice long talk and had a delish meal.  I had Baked Haddock with Sweet Potato wedges and Asparagus and washed it down with a Blue Moon.

Not much cooking here, mostly chicken in olive oil and a veggie of some sort.  The raspberries in my garden are bountiful, smoothies and in my cereal.

    Take care everyone.

Thinking about Michelle and hoping with all my being that she bounces back and can enjoy the new motorhome.  Life really sucks sometime and it's hard not to be really angry that good people suffer.
