Hi, I posted on the IDC discussion board yesterday about the fact that my left breast has IDC, ILC and IDCIS ( I think I got the abbreviations right), today I got the rest of the pathology report and it says ER+, Intensity 3, PR-, Ki-67 Low intensity 1, and Her2/neu negative score +1.  Can anyone out there help me figure out what all this means?  I'm having a mastectomy of my left breast next month and reconstruction.  Not meeting with oncologist until Thursday and am curious.  Thank you!

Firstly, because  you are so recently diagnosed, you (and also your doctors) don't know enough yet to be able to tell much about what to expect. Some of the info won't be known until after your surgery, because the exact size of the tumors, cleanness of margins and number of affected nodes affect what treatment you will need. You are positive for estrogen receptors. That means your treatment is likely to include hormone-suppressing medication in addition to any chemo and/or radiation triggered by tumor size/margins/nodes. You mentioned in another thread that you are 57, so I would guess (and it's only a guess) that it will be an aromatase inhibitor rather than tamoxifen.

A genomic test, such as OncotypeDX, may be useful to give you more information about whether the benefit of chemo exceeds the risk, but as far as I know that test isn't done until after surgery.

JT - I just responded to your post on the other thread.

As curveball has said you won't know all your treatment options yet - especially the HER2 status.  It sounds like some HER2 testing has been done on your biopsies, and you don't appear to be +, but that may change once all the pathology has been done.

Don't be afraid to ask any questions you need to here - we all support eachother as much as possible.

You are in a horrible stage at the moment, in between diagnosis and surgery.  Once you have a treatment plan in place you'll feel more in control.

Jt - I've finished treatment, just on Aromasin now, the AI for hormone suppression.  I did chemo and Herceptin, finished chemo in Feb 2011 and Herceptin in Jan 2012.  Doing just great!  Life is going on and I'm happy, healthy and contented - lol I sound like a cow!

You'll get there, it's a long road, just take it a day at a time.

Jt just from what your report says and it is by no mean complete, that you are ER+ (Estrogen receptor positive), PR- (Progestrone receptor negative) and Her2 - (Her2 negative).  What will be done after you mx is the cancer will be retested to make sure these are correct as well as stage, grade, LVI and node involvement.  These are what give the docs there guidelines for deciding your best treatment.

This early time is very confusing and usually very fearfull as you are dealing with the total unknown.  Be assurd that we have all been there and done that and can help with you questions and queries.  Take a deep breath and try to relax......a little difficult I know but it will help when you are reading and trying to figure things out.

    Love n hugs.   Chrissy
